If someone once had control of her phone and laptop, it would be easy to CREATE text messages that are supposedly from Mica. Abuse victims will also do or say things under duress in order to protect themselves. For abusers, is all about CONTROL.

Anyone who’s been in an abusive relationship knows there are texts you send to try to smooth things over, to appease, to agree, to diffuse. They also know that abusers alienate them from their family - and that the abusers expect to hear their victims speak poorly about anyone the abuser doesn’t want you to like… and the longer you’re in the situation, the more you sort of intuitively know which way you’re supposed to talk and think about various people. You say what you think you need to say to avoid abuse - to gain favor of your abuser to prove to him you’re not a threat so that he will stop harming you… that’s how these relationships work. But it’s easy to disprove any text message he cherry-picked by Mica’s own actions in her final months… Mica moved out into a secured apartment complex. Mica filed for a protective order against JP, not her family. Mica hid numbers and emails from JP, and gave those numbers and log-ins to her family. Mica left a voicemail for Allie about healing from abuse - and their only shared relationship was with JP, not Mica’s family. Mica texted Allie about the threat JP posed to the children. Everything she did in her final days was to expose him, to get away from him, to protect herself and others from him… not her family. It’s infuriating that he would have any chance to convince the courts with some coercive controlled text messages that Mica didn’t mean what she did or said in her final days. Hopefully the lawyer can keep her wits as the twisted confusion tactics of his ongoing abuse sets in on them. And I pray the judge or mediator or whoever is charged with deciding this case can see thru these tactics.
