Thank you so much! This song really is ridiculously perfect :D Alex had such a powerful journey which is SO important.

@@Supsi85 It really is so important. One thing I kept thinking throughout the show is how RARE it is for me to see a character whose journey about processing his abusive childhood feels so similar to mine. I feel like it's so tricky for most writers to explore adult characters who were genuinely abused by their parent as a child and actually really show it well. Other than Scarlett on Nashville I don't know that I've ever seen that side of myself in a character as much as Alex Manes (Alex Guerin ;) ), and this show did a better job of being more cathartic for me because they didn't try to redeem him, have other characters love the abusive man, have him try to apologize... anything like that. And I just... love the show so much for doing it the way they did it all while intermingling complex nuances specific to this character - how it shaped how he felt about his own sexual orientation, how his father influenced his choice to be a soldier, how he felt about war and the air force/the military itself, how his history with the person he loved was tainted by a specific extra traumatic thing where his father traumatized someone outside of himself and how that kinda hurt him more than all the times he himself was hurt - (that one rings SO extra true for me and my brother's story on so many levels, especially thinking of the time my brother accidentally ended up super traumatizing a friend of his by having his friend come along on a sleepover visit with my mom around when my brother was 17 years old, and maybe my brother thought it would just make the sleepover more pleasant/enjoyable for my brother himself or maybe he thought my mom would be on better behavior with a guest over, but instead my brother's friend just was not at all prepared for my mom and ended up hurt, and my brother did feel really guilty for hurting his friend by subjecting him to our mom... anyway sorry for the personal ramble - ) Anyway I just want to vid an Alex Manes character study one day for sure, and I can never get enough of seeing all the creative and wonderful ways people vid him. And your vids are pretty much always so powerful. Already seen the vid at least 3 times btw.

For some reason in my sleep deprived state of mind I thought you sent me this in a DM and I kept scrolling back today to find it because I was sure I hadn't responded lol. Here it is! I totally agree. It's such a unique storyline to see on TV where they never try to redeem the parent. And they show all the ways that trauma affected so many choices Alex made in his life, and how he slowly realized them and found a way to more forward. It's so comforting. And yeah your experiences must make it feel even more relatable. I relate more to Michael because the father is a more distant character there. But I definitely feel a lot for both characters. I can't wait for you to vid Alex! Thank you so much for your thoughts:)
