I just sent this to Senator Marco Rubio in the USA >> I am very disappointed that you said about Ukraine "...unfortunately the reality of it is that the way the war in Ukraine is going to end is with a negotiated settlement." That should NEVER be said publicly like that even if you believe it because it is a surrender strategy. Our 13 colonies fought over 75 battles in the Eighth and final year of our war for independence and lost a little over half of them. But they won the critical one at Yorktown. You need to spend energy getting Ukraine a lot of our older weapons and ammunition; they will win their 1991 borders back. Ukraine cannot pay russia in land for the horror that russia has inflicted on it; that would be like parents paying a murderer to tell them where he buried their children! Why would you encourage putin by publicly saying such a thing?

Several questions on a prospective "negotiation" where Ukraine is forced to give up (or stop fighting for) territories, such as Luhansk and Donetsk, and maybe most importantly Crimea, in exchange for peace: why would Ukraine simply yield on Crimea, if they have already rendered it useless for the Russians, and driven them out of the black sea? Isn't Crimea, and the access it gives Russia to shipping, and the ability to use it as a "floating aircraft carrier", as one of your guests described it, Russia's Achilles heel? When the Ukrainians are so close to breaking it now, why would they give in?

Telegram being compromised was reasonably suspected when there were talks between the Russian government and Telegram's founder resulting in Telegram being allowed to continue to operate unimpeded within Russia. What other explanation could there have been ?

Why aren't we talking about the agreements that were signed when Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan gave up the nukes parked in their countries by the Soviet Union and only the Kremlin had the codes. Or the Politburo, whatever the leadership structure was then. They were removed in the 90's, I believe 94-96. It was a BFD at the time, but I never hear much about it anymore. Those 3 countries were given security guarantees if they are attacked or invaded 👁️👁️💯🇺🇲🇺🇦

If Viktor Orban, Hungarian head of state, can speak to CPAC, can visit Trump at Mar-a-Largo, and laud--yes, endorse--Trump for president--well, why doesn't this spark outrage at clear foreign interference in U.S. politics? Oh, how small-minded so many Republican leaders are. Zelenskyy's visit to the Scranton factory is certainly not overt partisan politics--read whatever else you want into it.

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's the west bitching that Ukraine isn't doing enough, or isn't fielding enough soldiers, and not asking the fundamental question, "what will Ukraine arm them with?" If Ukraine can't even rely on the west to send what they DO promise, that aid being far less than requested, and 6 to 18 months later than promised, what right does the west have to criticize Ukraine!?

Great interview. Practical, sensible, realistic. I too love Ukraine and have lived in country. Was in Kyiv just after The Orange Revolution, and Maidan. I especially appreciated the comments regarding the CIA non sponsorship of both grass roots revolts. For anyone who has lived in Ukraine with Ukrainian families, it easy to see... Ukrainians are simply done with Russia and its abuse of Ukrainians!! 10 Brigades would solve this in 6 months!! And I think Ben Hodges would agree!

Jonathan, these 2 guys are breaking my heart. If I were Europe, I wouldn’t want the fled Ukrainians. I would understand they’re young,&because they were raised with Russian overlords they don’t feel inclined to die for Ukraine. But I feel really sour offering them benefits for abandoning Ukraine.

A few points that I think can do with clarification: The Bulk Cargo Vessel “Ruby” is not “drifting around.” She was at anchor outside the 12 mile limit, in international waters, with a tow vessel on station should it be required to assist in light of the Ruby’s propeller and rudder damage. About 3 days ago, with more severe weather and sea conditions forecast, the Ruby was moved to a position roughly 2 - 3 miles off Margate shore to take advantage of the more sheltered waters, where she was securely re-anchored on good holding ground. The tow vessel remains on station. This was a thoroughly wise and seamanlike decision with consideration to the deteriorating conditions. The stories about the potential of explosion and the purported blast radius, along with dire predictions of a tsunami that would obliterate half of London, are fundamentally inaccurate and I believe are being exaggerated quite deliberately to destabilise the British people through an injection of fear. Just another piece of opportunistic hybrid war on Russia’s part, imho. The cargo is bagged and divided between 6 sections of the vessel, it is not in a single loose bulk hold. The divisions are structurally integral to the hull, they are 3 double skinned vertical bulkheads and a mid-level deck in each hold, so the cargo is in 3 discrete sections fore and aft, each section being further divided into a discrete lower and an upper section by the mid-deck. To make the product explode would require a fire to burn for a period of time beforehand. The vessel sustained rudder and prop damage through a partial grounding incident whilst underway, there is nothing to indicate that it has sustained any damage to any of its electrical systems or to it’s main engine, so the risk of fire is not any greater than at any other point in a normal cargo vessel’s lifespan. Using standard maritime industry projection tools for assessing hazardous cargo risks, due to the division of the cargo the actual projected radius of any damaging blast, in the event that the worst happened, is at most circa 1.6 kilometres. Another story that has been spread is the risk that Ruby presents to the wreck of the Richard Montgomery, which is a wartime vessel that sunk at the entrance to the Thames Estuary, with the majority of it’s 8,000 ton cargo of munitions intact. The Ruby is located over 35 miles from the Montgomery and presents no risk whatsoever to the wreck. On the subject of the throwaway statement by one of the guests, who said that Ukraine simply hasn’t got enough troops at the front and wasn’t acting like a nation facing existential threat, I’d like to point out that Ukraine has 4 Brigades of freshly trained and ready troops that have no equipment due to the delays in supplies, largely overdue from the USA. I’m afraid that that particular grumpy old man, who was very comfortable in knocking and on occasion downright misrepresenting the facts of various parts of the situation in Ukraine and Europe, did an excellent job of subtly sowing a vein of defeatism throughout the conversation. I have no clue who he is, or what he thinks he is, but I will not miss his falsely opinionated, patronising, dismissive attitude, should I have the great good fortune to overlook another interview with him. He’s probably a grumpy old man because he was told to cease his bs and shut-up a lot as a child, perhaps with good reason.

I saw a European chart on Jake Broe’s RU-vid channel with the people leaning towards Russia. Jake talked about Austria, Hungary and 2 other countries farther east. So what could Putin be thinking? If he can make the connection in the south with Transnistria, only Moldova is lying between Ukraine and Hungary. Think about it

I heard recently that 6,000 Ukrainians are voluntarily joining the military each month (in addition to draftees). 14 new brigades, but many have no weapons yet.

It seems like one of those guests just stopped here on a way to his real job at RTVI.. Every point he made was a “glass half empty”kind of thing.. Depressing the public in the middle of the war, in my opinion, is one of the most counterproductive things you can do.

Sounds like these over-eager old men need to go to the front if they are so passionate about "Democracy."

The irony is that both guests are affected by the same contagious defeatism. Ukraine has no manpower shortage, otherwise it would mobilize women and men under the age of 27 already. As for an inevitable collapse of Muscovy that they do not see, there is a RU-vid channel named Free Nations League where Jonathan could find plenty of fantastic native speakers standing for independent Tatarstan, Yakutia, Tuva, Buryatia and more.

Thanks for inviting the two gentlemen, a lot of interesting points that need to be heard by everybody both in the West and in Ukraine. Still, we love democracy? How many referendums were organized in the West to hear the voice of the people before promising to provide military and financial aid to Ukraine "as long as it takes"? Ok, there were some general elections and...the parties cozy to Ruzzia came in strong in many European countries and the US is next. It may not be too late and learn from Grump and pootin how to effectively educate the people but about what matters.

The Ukrainian war is in Europe! It is the Europeans who must support and fund the Ukrainians, not the US. If anything, the EU countries must increase their own budgetary allocations to defence, increase considerably arms manufacturing and stockpiles, increase the size of their armed forces and fund Ukraine to the necessary scale and purchase US made weapons to do so. Russia is not invading Alaska or Texas!

As for Trump, he talks like Milošević, he has gestures like Milošević and the way he protrudes his chin, remind ominously of both Milošević and Benito Mussolini.

Basically an hour of propagandists complaining that their propaganda is not effective enough.
