JKBluesReport presents : Michael Burks with the Song:House of the Rising Sun Live at 18. Grolsch Bluesfestival in Schöppingen! Blues from heart so nice Michael you are the best yeah! so much feeling! i love it soooo much!! have fun!
This specific version of this song, the way Micheal Burkes played at this exact point in time, totally destroys me and leaves me in tears and I don’t really know why.
I’m 35 and listened to blues as a kid, tried to play like BB. I never heard of this guy until about 2 months ago listening to Christone “kingfish” playing “empty promises”. Man I been missing out, all these years, he’s nice. R.I.P.
I did too ,, That is how I discovered Michael Burks by listening to Kingfish . I noticed that Kingfish has some of the same style like Michael Burks . I was so sorry to read up on His background and find out that He it's already deceased . Kingfish is Awesome , I plan on going to see Him next year on Tour.
@@yvonnedavis1461 man, I found out last minute that Kingfish did a concert about 45 mins away from me yesterday. Wish I could’ve been there, that dude is a beast
Dear Lord, I know you give and take away, but why in this universe must you take true greats like this man away so early? This rendition is pure heaven.
I met him at the Firefighters Blues Festival in South Bend, IN along with his cousin, Larry McCray. Both extremely talented and awesome guys. Wish I could say I had gotten to know them. But I only had the privilege of meeting them for a few minutes.
Michael played "Miss Mercy" for my wife and at Uncle Bo's in Topeka, Ks a week before we were married. We were planning on going on a Blues Cruise he was headlining but he passed a few weeks before. A truly wonderful talent that I miss every time I pass by the signed Iron Man album poster in my hall. RIP, I look forward to the Blues Band in heaven.
FANTASTIC rendition of House of the Rising Sun by the equally fantastic MICHAEL BURKS, a truly great guitarist, sadly missed by blues rock fans worldwide, thank you Michael, for your many wonderful performances!!!!
Love this. Such incredible feel. Not the same style, but very similar force-of-nature soul & style I saw Freddie King play with at Ma' Blues in Dallas. Such a rare gift. BTW, small world - I was blessed to play with Michael's drummer, Chuck "Popcorn" Louden, on a weekly residence for 3 1/2 years here in DFW. We used subs when Popcorn was out with Michael, and unfortunately, it was one of those times when Michael passed while arriving in Atlanta customs from Italy. Popcorn had also toured with Buddy Miles for over a decade.
I just discovered this great man. I feel like I'm cheated on he passed away before we enjoyed what more to come. What a talent what a waste. Rest in peace my brother from another mother. Thank you for your legacy....
Me! I am from Helena, Arkansas…well technically, Old Town on the Mud Line. Twenty miles from Helena Crossing down on Hwy 20 torge Elaine, Arkansas. And, I play guitar like I came from there. I go way back. Thanks….for the memories and reminding me of who I am.
saw him at a twice at a tiny blues club in salem Oregon in 06&07, didn't know who he was the first time, what a nice guy! stayed and talked to us for an hour after the show.
I'm so glad I got to see this amazingly talented player before he passed away. He actually had the flu the night I saw and spoke with him. Humble, great guy. Thanks for posting this video.
OMG...thx good, i found this masterpiece version of a great song...Can't belive that, I hear this version first time!!!! (2010, Releasing on RU-vid) ...It's never too late...^^Thank's so much, for this awesome live performance!! Rest in Peace "Iron Man"
Purtroppo lo ascolto solo da pochissimo. Però è entrato prepotentemente nel mio cuore. Talento cristallino, suona un blues tutto anima e cuore. È stato un peccato averlo perso. Ci restano i suoi dischi e le sue strabilianti interpretazioni. Per me ha qualcosa di speciale. Grazie per tutto Iron Man. Grazie di cuore.
This was the first time I saw Michael. Been in heavy Michael missing mood tonight. A fantastic player with a tone to die for, and a sweet man. Taken from us far too soon. RIP Iron Man.
Burks was a true legend. Send this performance to clapton who said “ I am a blues guitarist”. Then he will understand what a blues gitarist is. Burks was so underrated when compared with other clowns. Gary Moore, SRV, Albert Collins, Burks and many others played with their heart, very sad they all passed too early. At least one legend still alive Mr Buddy Guy…
oh man this brings back memories...We saw him at JB Park in st. louis ...blues on the mississippi.... he was truly one humble man and loved playing the blues. anyone that missed him playing ....and singing missed one great entertainer.
Mike was an outstanding guitarist and singer and a golden heart. I was an expat in Tunis when in april 2012 there were two shows of his 2012 tour (which was to be his last). I saw one of them, this one here:ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0U9pFYoeTzU.html. I was so in awe of this house of the rising sun rendition, that during the break I had the chance to talk to him and thus I asked him whether HOTRS was on the set, and he goes "Actually no man, we have a new bass player, we have not rehearsed it, sorry no". End of the break, I was at the bar buying beers for me an my GF, and what do I hear OMG .. He starts the second half of the show with you guessed what. I was elated, beyond all I can describe. Super rendition and super show. I ended up sharing a drink with him after the show, such a nice and modest guy. There was a second show in Tunis that I did not attend, then he went to Italy (there are vids of his last shows in Italy where he does plays HOTRS, apparently he had decided to have it on the set list again). Then in May he collapsed at the Atlanta airport while on his way home. I was devastated. I think of him everytime I pick up my guitar.
Holy holy smoke Big Man.. The world lost an incredible guitar giant when you were taken from us. A guitar performance to match the best ive ever heard. I absolutely love your Hey Joe where you are playing outside and we see you up close with your Fender Strat and you are wearing that lovely shirt with the gold trim on it. Thankyou for leaving these performances for us to remember you.
Je viens juste de le découvrir par hasard. Un seul mot:EXPRESSIVITÉ. Magnifique de meme que sa version de Hey Joe.pour une fois youtube va servir à qq chose.a decouvrir ce grand, tres grand artiste.
I have seen Micheal too many times to count. I saw him 15-20 years ago when he played at the Horseman’s in Sac Ca the Big Mike used to put on. Michael played for almost 4 hours that day till midnight. To this day I have never seen such an awesome performance, makes my cry every time I hear his music he was truly one of the greats unknown to so many. Glad I was apart of his experience and the many times he came to the Horseman’s and all the other shows. RIP MR BURKS. I am still listening.
"Affengeil, wa! Leck mich am Arsch, dat hadder drauf doo! Aha! House of the rising sun, ey! House of the rising sun, doo! Hooeeyy! Da geht mir aber der Hut hoch, doo! Jaa... leck mich am Arsch! Wow! Hey!" Ich hab die Aufnahme mittlerweile so oft gehört, dass ich diese "Adlips" nicht nur auswendig kenne, sondern wenn ich mal eine andere Version von dem Song höre, hab ich den kölschen Kerl dennoch im Ohr! Hahaha... This is probably my favourite version of this song!
