I think so too. He wanted to deflect away from a topic that was basically gossip, and he did so with humour and grace. Fucking love the dude. He's old school English
Tia Aaron the set was hot on the day of the rant, it was the most intense scene for Bale’s character and the DP was walking around as filming was going on and this kept breaking his concentration. All those things mixed together we have what happened. Bale apologized after an hour after he went off on the dude and everything went fine after that. He makes no excuses for what happened, however the DP doesn’t need to be walking around looking at the lights while they’re filming. That’s something that should be done between takes.
@@Jared_Wignall yeah. I dunno how he is in real life but i love and respect him taking ownership and responsibity of work so people can be entertained. End of the day he just wanted the best result for everyone.
it's obvious that he regrets it and he apologized, what more do you want? you get to call him a douche if you can honestly say that you never treated someone unfairly because you were in a bad mood. it's understandable, especially if someone is under this kind of pressure.
@@avanindrathecrownprince930 good call. And if people actually listen to what Bale said in the context of those two professionals working together (on a movie shoot where costs mount with every extra take), it is totally on point. Yeah he yelled a bit, people are way too outraged by a loud voice 🤫😒... It's quite amusing really, given what calm, calculated, "polite" civility is used to disguise in many professional and political contexts.
@@johnmartinez7440 I can say that I scream at my Coworkers constantly and no one gives a shit because I never take it on a personal level, just like Bale. Its not nice but sometimes the pressure has to be released to work more effectively
Michael Caine is one of the biggest badasses in the movie industry. He was in the biggest gang in London as a teenager, served in Korea and is rumored to have killed Chinese soldiers in a bayonet charge, he's just a world class actor and his name sounds like someone is saying "My cocaine" in a English accent.
Rian O'Canain When he was a teenager, he was afraid of the gangs in the south end of London, so he dressed up like them, got similar hair cut, so he can blend in with the ganger members and be left along. When he was in Korea, he was on a recon mission to capture a Chinese soldier but accidentally went behind the enemy line. He thought he was gonna die for sure but it turned out that the emery was advancing so no one gave a damn about him and his squad. So, no, he was not in any gang, and he did not kill anyone in his life. I read his memoir called "What's it all about" I would highly recommend you check it out, it's a fun read.
"You pay this guy to be unstable and crazy". God, I miss Craig Ferguson. His improvised interviews were the best, and you can clearly see that the guests loved it as well. On the other hand, James Corden justs acts like he takes celebrities to kindergarten.
He didn't sound unstable to me he sounded pissed off because someone was being incompetent on set and he was laying out some professionalism and discipline. I liked him more after I heard that rant.
Bale was acting like a predator on someone who was doing his job! The guy was fixing the lighting do that his scene would look good. Bale needed to get over his huge ego and shut the fuck up.
Nope. It's disgusting behaviour. And he only did it because he was more rich, powerful and famous than the guy receiving it. And knew he'd get away with it.
Say what u want about him. Hes a fucking good actor and takes his stuff seriously. Ever wondered how hes lost/gained weight so efficiently? It's his dedication. Sure he was in the wrong but should he be shamed for his actions? Not really. The fact was the guy was messing up a scene and bale put him in his place be it aggressively verbal or not. The point was made and no one was offended by the end of it ergo everyone should move the fuck on and get on with their lives.
If I see a movie with Michael Caine I know bloody well I'm going to see some great acting. Even as a young man, many moons ago, I recognized that he was great. When I saw him in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" I realized just how to truly brilliant he is. My god, one of my favorite movies. Who else could have stood toe to toe with comedy legend Steve Martin at the time and take him to school? That was Caine's masterpiece all the way. His role in Austin Powers - equally brilliant casting. I'd watch a Nigel Powers movie any day. Any picture, with the exception of Jaws 4, he classes up. At the very least, he out-acted the shark...
@@flower_girl4983 how about doing your job before a fucking shoot and have some respect for actors and acting itself? Christian was right that dude is an amateur!
Sean Connery can beat Bale on rants on set. Connery once went of on a guy working on set so bad. The guy left the set went home and moved to another country.
Exactly. I'm a 19 year old girl and I've had my share of temper tantrums. Some people just can't hold it in as well, it doesn't make them bad people. Christian is one of the best actors working today.
You’re a teenager who’s expected to have hormonal imbalances that cause mood swings. He’s a grown man who doesn’t and is consequently expected to be in control of himself. There’s a huge difference.
Very clever response. He didn't defend his actions, but he didn't say anything bad about him either. God, I hope this has to do with age. Like, when I'm 60, I'll know precisely what I need to say in every situation
In his book , ACTING FOR FILM, he writes: "Temperament usually comes from insecurity. Real stars aren't insecure. They say what they want, and they usually get it. I call the temperamental ones "almost" people: they can almost act, they almost know their lines, they are almost on time, they are almost stars".
The guy has carried practically every movie he's ever been in, and he deserves all of the recognition he gets. I think if you count licensed merch, his Batman has grossed more than any film character EVER. If he's not a star, then who the fuck is?
"he's never really been in the star system" Of course he has. Just because a summer blockbuster happens to be really good cinema doesn't mean the actor isn't in the star system.
***** Bale is a method actor and the best one at it too boot. Bale was in the right though. The DP was wrong and for a great method actor this is insulting. The guy is lucky bale didn't really hurt him off set.
777Psychodelia Perhaps you need to look up bale before talking. Ask Tito how scary he can get in a real fight. Same with Tom Hardy. The man can fight and is a legit badass.
Wait.. he's suggesting that the studio deliberately waited until the premiere to sabotage Christian's reputation or just to create a buzz around the movie? As they say, any publicity is good publicity.
Christian is my idol, and I was very mad that they released that tape of the rant. It's in the past people, just MOVE ON! Actors are put under a lot of emotional stress and it's not fair for people to judge them the way that they do.#Stay true to your fav actor❤️❤️
Michael Caine - "Why do we fall?" Christian Bale - "So that are expletive-filled rants can be used as free viral-marketing?" Michael Caine - "Eh, close enough."
I’m actually still wondering (almost 5 years) about which of his movies (between the early 1960s to the mid-1980s) that Sir Michael Caine had lost his cool on set. Anyone who may know this can inform me about it.
It could go either way. Personally, I think they did it to ruin his reputation or to hurt the movies in some way. Even still, it's a pretty suspicious observation one wouldn't naturally make unless you were in the business. I certainly never thought about that: the recording never surfaced until the movie was released. Makes you wonder about a lot of things.
Caine is actually wrong. He's right that it came out way after it happened and it was posted close to the release date, but it became public in February whilst Terminator Salvation was released in May.
Funny interview but I think Caine has the timings wrong. The tape was leaked at least a couple of months before the film - hardly 'just in time for opening weekend'.
SalemGhassanHanna the point being, the tape was made a full year BEFORE it was released. It was released at the beginning of the premier season - the 2 to 3 months when the movie is made available for early viewing prior to it's wider opening.
Of Course they released the Christian Bale tapes right before release. Here is what it comes down to. The movie didn't test well and they say "Holy Shit, this movie is going to Bomb." Whether the incident was real or not doesn't matter. It is all FREE PUBLICITY.
Now in my opinion i feel you cant compare Michael Gough and Michael Caine because they are 2 different butlers. Michael Gough played Alfred as high class and from a wealthy family, while Michael Caine played Alfred as world-weary and from poor beginnings, basically the life of Michael Caine himself. its like comparing chalk and cheese, you cant do it
