I’m retired from 32 yrs as a cop and a friend just turned me onto Harry Bosch novels - they’re AWESOME. Then I found the TV show and binge-watched 7 hours straight - also awesome..!!! I’m gonna read all the novels and then watch all seasons of the show. Connelly is a great author!
Before I saw season one I thought Titus Welliver was an odd choice. After the first episode I said this is Harry Bosch. Never had a second thought over what other actor could have played the part. Great actor, great part, great series. Can’t wait for the sequel series next year. Bosch lives on!
As I read the books I had pictured an older Josh Brolin as Harry! So when I watched the first episode it took a minute to adjust, I very quickly realized Titus Welliver was spot in casting! For me, he is forever Bosch!
I’ve read all of the Bosch novels and the spin-offs a couple of times. When I heard Amazon was coming out with the series I just knew I would be disappointed. The first episode I said, “That’s Harry Bosch.”
Absolutely! I’ve loved Harry Bosch from the novels for years and had a shadowy image of what he looked like. When I started to watch the series I didn’t think I’d like Titus Welliver. That lasted about 5 minutes. Just that voice alone is Harry Bosch. Now he needs to go back and re-narrate all the novels.
I love Titus Welliver and i love story arc crime shows. I NEVER heard of Bosch or Michael Connelly before (Sorry Mr. Connelly). I saw the trailer, I saw Titus Welliver and watched the trailer because of him... and here we are. 6 or 7 years later, I've read half the books (still working on that) and I get goose bumps when i here "cant let go". Titus Welliver is Harry Bosch and the crew has put together a show that is an absolute master piece. One of my all time favorites. Thank you.
If you get a chance you HAVE to listen to the Harry Bosch audiobooks. Titus narrates some of the newer ones, but the narrator before him was really good as well. I can't think of his name but he plays the grandfather on the show "Blue Bloods".
@@ljayzee66 Thanks for the tip. I think the actors name is Len Carou, love him in blue bloods. up I can imagine him voicing and audiobook, think I'd like audiobook a read by him
I had no idea what Bosch was until I heard an interview with actor Jeffery Combs talking about how good the show was despite his initial skepticism as he was a fan of the novels. One month later I've binged the whole thing. I love the attention to detail and especially love how much they capture Hollywood, it's not "sunset boulevard" shot in Toronto; they shoot at the coffee shops I go to, the CVS near my house, bars I've frequented etc. It's a trip to see and so well done. Very glad I found this show and Welliver is fantastic.
I never was as obsessed with a series until I watched Season 1 of Bosch. Titus Welliver's acting was essential. Thank you Micheal Connelly for your excellent writing.
Had time on my hands due to Covid and discovered all these wonderful books and stories by Michael Connelly. Brilliant stories and so well written and Titus Welliver is a perfect choice for Harry Bosch.
Having read all the Harry Bosch novels I have to say that Welliver has the character nailed. The show is superb and, in my view, ranks up alongside The Wire (I claim title to this nation's number one unabashed, hopelessly addicted Wirefreak). And Mr. Connelly, you have made me an avid reader. You have the know-how and the touch - please keep the books coming!
Thank god they waited for Titus!! No one else could play Harry Bosch. LOVE the series. So sad it's the final season. At least I can keep rewatching Harry/Titus again and again!👍👏💗🇨🇦
Appreciate the insights into the process for the selection of Mr. Welliver to play Harry Bosch. As an original fan of the novels I admit he wasn't admittedly what I pictured in my "mind's eye" but his talent and brooding quickly won me over. I am so thrilled to see Mr. Connelly able to bring this series to the screen and look forward to what's in store for the future.
Could not love any crime flick after watching Bosch. The execution, details and Titus were amazing. No other show goes into those details. The calm demeanor of Bosch makes you want to be like him.
Through dozens of the books, I never could get a handle on Harry. Physically, I visualized him as Connolly, but I didn't understand how he was so abrupt with people, and so many other aspects of his personality. That was so not my nature back then (a LOT has changed for me since 🥺 ) Looking at Welliver, I just didn't see him as the character. But after only two episodes of the series, Bosch completely coalesced under Titus' portrayal. He owns the guy!
Titus Welliver is the perfect Harry Bosch! I have read all of the Harry Bosch books and he embodies Harry Bosch perfectly. So sad Season 7 will be the last
…you Guyz made the right choice - but ABSOLUTELY! Harry Bosch is alive and well and catching the bad guyz!! And then you went further You found his daughter Maddie, his dog and lots of other ‘bits and pieces’ which have turned this show into a remarkable ‘real Life adventure’… So, at the very least, you got it right. And it is a fantastic journey of discovery with you all. Thus, thank you for your books, so extraordinarily and fascinatingly well researched written…the ‘music’ in it, all of which one can truly enjoy. The most amazing Artists ‘from another world’. Go for it Michael, Titus (and your Compadres!). You are doing superbly. THANK YOU KINDLY! The JOIE…!! 👊🔥🥂
I found Michael Connelly and Harry Bosch in the library one day, maybe 12-15 years ago, and never looked back. Bought the book in almost new condition, (library prices), and have since added every edition since. I've seen Titus Welliver in "Gone Baby Gone" and "Deadwood", great actor, fits the character perfectly Imho. Looking forward to another season and "The Lincoln Lawyer". Also, born and raised in L.A., love that I can visualize the locations.
I read all Bosch books. When I saw they were going to do TV series and Titus Welliver was playing Bosch, I said wow, that is how I envisioned Harry Bosch .Excellent casting all around.
I just love Bosch, and all the characters, especially Crate & Barrel. Harry is flawed like all of us, and sometimes he gets told off. I binge watched all of them, now I gotta wait for more. I hope Maddy is okay.
Brilliant, genius casting. Titus Welliver is the bomb. Edit: watching was insane he acted like I remember seeing it play as a film (in my head) as I read it at university.
I'm a translator and translated the second series, and was mesmerized. It's actually so good. So, now I am reading all of the Bosch series, just as someone here has commented. Yes, it is definitely Titus Welliver that I see in my internal cinema.
Brilliant and extremely versified, loved him in 'Deadwood', too under utilised in that series and he could not return for the 'Deadwood' movie due to filming 'Bosch'.
I started reading Mr. Connelly's books in about 2000 with Void Moon and then started to read his books in order starting with The Black Echo and over the years, about 25 of his 38 books. For whatever reason, in my mind I got the actor Charles Bronson to be the loner detective Harry Bosch (a little crush BTW). So any other actor would disappoint me. (Matthew McConaghey was good casting for The Lincoln Lawyer.) I enjoyed the first five seasons of Bosch but not the last two as much. I really enjoyed Lance Reddick and still feel bad he passed away too young. I'm in the category, if you fall in love with the book(s), the movies are never as satisfying. Mr. Connelly is certainly a talented writer and it's nice to see he's enjoying his success.
Want to see more Bosch series on TV! Pretty please! I got my Dad hooked on the series, too, and he enjoyed it, as well. There’s talk of a spin off, but haven’t seen those yet in 2022….any info on that?
Reading Michael Connelly's novels, I always pictured Mickey Rourke as a dead ringer for Bosch, but they got it right with Titus Welliver who conveys so well Bosch's singular and troubled personality...
I just heard they’re going to “continue” the Bosch story with him becoming a private investigator. Maddy and Money Chandler will be in it as well. So excited!!
What a great story. I love these kinds of stories about how actors get cast in iconic roles, almost by accident. Ed Norton in Primal Fear is very similar, although Ed really, really had to work it.
I had read and liked the books. I didn't know the actor cast as Bosch and never got around to watching the series. Then I saw Welliver in an episode of Law & Order: SVU. I started binge watching "Bosch" within a few days.
Great story. Right place at the right time. I first learned of Welliver when Amazon introduced Bosch, and thought he was a great Harry Bosch. A year later I saw a much younger Welliver playing a doctor on NYPD Blue and was not captivated at all. Welliver was born to play Bosch.
This is how you make stories worth watching. You have a clear vision and you stay steadfast in getting what you need to realize that vision. It can be hard to stick by your guns, but failure to do so can result in a critically compromised result. It is hard for me to imagine anyone else as Harry Bosch. Titus Welliver gets Harry and clearly has the ability to become him. The show has a great supporting cast but the show would have been fatally flawed, IMO, if they had not found the right Harry. It is easy to allow a production to gain momentum and basically just go with the flow. It takes real courage to hold out for what you need and I commend them for doing that for Bosch. It is a show that easily stands out in a sea of mediocrity.
Bosch is my favourite show on TV. In this time of Covid we need some good shows on TV to watch, to ward of depression etc. I would like you to consider releasing season 8 , so the Canadians in lockdown can have something to look forward to. It is the best show on TV.
Being a long time fan of all the Bosch books, still do not agree with Mr Connelly's choice of Welliver to be Harry Bosch. The mental image I got from the books is no where close to Welliver and his mannerisms do not fit Bosch at all. I find the series hugely disappointing. However still love the books. As they say it is hard for any tv or film production to ever reach the scope of our own minds.
I need (as I often do) to go back and reread the series from book one. But I loved the Bosch Amazon series. Maybe it's because I'm a fan of Connelly's? Are you looking forward to the Reacher series coming out?
Before Titus, narrator Dick Hill was the perfect Bosch mixing cynicism, world weariness and purpose perfectly in the audio books. Titus of course is the definitive Bosch!
Connelly made a good pick for Bosch, for me the loss of Viet nam tunnel rat was a downer but adjusted. Glad you did not fall prey to stardom like lee child with the Reacher series using Tom Cruise who could not have been more wrong for that character.
There are very few books to film or TV that do a superior job with casting or storylines, but the two that stand out to me as perfect lead casting are Sean Connery’s James Bond and Titus Welliver’s Harry Bosch.
I agree completely. Welliver is amazing...as if his core is made of stainless steel. Whereas Cruise just doesn't have it. The character in the books is huge, quiet and relentless. Cruise comes across as a little smart ass twerp.
Haven’t watched the Bosch show yet ( read most of the books and enjoyed immensely) . Thought Cruise was a strange pick for Jack Reacher films - physically he’s the polar opposite of the Reacher character . Watched the first Reacher film but it was hard to take Cruise seriously as Reacher .
What a great find the Bosch series was! Complex and engaging characters, relevant story lines, and satisfying outcomes. I have to disagree with others who think Tom Cruise was a bad fit for Jack reacher. He was a perfect fit. But Jack reacher is an unrealistic, shallow character. Cruise actually made him a little more interesting.
Titus Welliver--brilliant choice. Bosch is a scarred, flawed relentless character, who does not have matinee idol looks. He's aging in real-time in the role as well. Titus has propelled the Bosch character into a global brand, he's that good.
…just like that: ‘that’s Harry Bosch’ • perfect line and story to the story, the character, this wonderful script of a bull terrier who cannot, WILL NOT let go, for the right reasons…GREAT STUFF⁉️

I would have been disappointed if they chose a traditional matinee idol type. A character actor works far better, IMHO. As a reminder, the studio wanted people like Ryan O'Neal to play Michael Corleone-NOT a good idea. Al Pacino was.
