The ultimate badass, Michael Corleone, does the respectable thing and ask Apollonia's father for permission to court his daughter. Watch and learn gentleman.
I do NOT own any of this footage. It is the property of its respectable owner.

Coppola could’ve had Michael gaze at Apollonia from afar without her noticing him and then pursue her. But it would’ve been creepy if it’d happened that way, since it’d be all about his feelings and not hers. Instead, Coppola has Apollonia lock eyes with Michael at the same time, making her feelings just as clear and important as his. She wants this guy, and she makes that clear with one silent, penetrating look into his soul.

Did Michael Corleone love Kay or Apollonia? He loved both. However, it was not the same and Puzo goes to details about it. Michael’s love of Apollonia was tender but almost chemical in intensity, borderline insane: Again Michael felt that shortness of breath, that flooding through his body of something that was not so much desire as an insane possessiveness. He understood for the first time the classical jealousy of the Italian male. He was at that moment ready to kill anyone who touched this girl, who tried to claim her, take her away from him. He wanted to own her as wildly as a miser wants to own gold coins, as hungrily as a sharecropper wants to own his own land. Nothing was going to stop him from owning this girl, possessing her, locking her in a house, and keeping her prisoner only for himself. He didn’t want anyone even to see her. When she turned to smile at one of her brothers Michael gave that young man a murderous look without even realizing it. She had his mind, body and heart: He awoke and, feeling Apollonia’s satiny body against his own sleep-warm skin, made her come awake with love. When they were done, even all the months of complete possession could not stop him from marveling at her beauty and her passion. Michael changed after Apollonia: For Kay the lovemaking was almost like it had been before except that Michael was rougher, more direct, not as tender as he had been. As if he was on guard against her. But she didn’t want to complain. Michael’s love for Kay was more cerebral. It was human love. Michael’s love for Apollonia pure physical passion, possession and animalistic..borderline madness.

You should take a look at Italian version of this scene with the father. When Michael asks his friend to translate for him, of course they had to change everything because Michael had been talking perfect itailan all the time. So his friend begins to add things to what Mike was saying, sometimes completing his sentences. so hilarious

I was also thinking about does Micheal love A more or K more. My conclusion is: he loves both, but relative speaking, loves A more. My reason is very simply - his behavior: he was with K for years and hadn’t married but with A, only the 1st sight, marry immediately! Seems like Micheal very know what kind of woman he want marry. Also, the novel describes a lot about his feelings after he met her, including romantic feeling, xxx feeling, extreme jealous feeling, etc., which are rarely shown between he and K. So, in the novel, Micheal loves A more than K, K loves Micheal more than Micheal loves K.

This is how it's supposed to be. A daughter is like the very essence of love. The very best of you. The person who sees the side of you only family can see. You work tirelessly for her and protect her at all cost, and then life demands that you let her go at some point. If that is the case, then we want the very best. And the only way to know is to watch him and how he moves. Then, if he is worthy, he can lay with her and love her all he wants bcuz we expect a marriage and our family to grow.

Apollonia was physically beautiful for sure, but as a character, she wasn’t given much to do with the role. Her dad has a lot more personality than she does. It would have been great if Francis had combined her beauty with her dad’s vibrancy.

She was, I think, to be the key to the kind of life his father had - granted Michael would’ve still had to change with the times and faced similar adversity, but Apollonia would’ve been far more permissive and enabling of Michael’s life than Kay, much like Vito’s wife - although I wonder if America would’ve spoiled and corrupted her - she was already verging on that from the immature, impatient way she spoke to him when he’s teaching her to drive - I wonder how that would’ve carried over had she been exposed to the excess and access of being a mob wife in the “New World”
