I have LOVED Michael Crichton's books since childhood, and had no idea that my literary idol was a former Harvard Medical School student whose ultra-strict father compelled him to be a doctor and forgo basketball and his love of writing, that he was a 6'9'' basketball prospect, and that he was the creator of acclaimed t.v. medical show "E.R." - wow, what a life he led!
I've read a few of his books last year (rising sun, prey, a case of need, the terminal man) and I really am super impressed with how ahead of his time he was!! Especially with terminal man! Look at what's going with NEURALINK now in 2024! And he wrote "terminal man" in 1972!!!! That alone is mind-blowing and he talks about a lot of other things that are extremely prevalent now in the 2020s. It's too bad he's gone I'd love to read what he'd write about what he'd think 2040-2060s are going to be!
I’ve started reading his work when I learned he’s wrote the book for Jurassic park (I loved the first film) and I heard my favourite author reads his work, even stated Jurassic park was one of the few reasons that prompted him to write his first ever novel
HUMBLE when he just said everyone's stupid and he's the only smart one repeatedly on national TV? Unless if you're being sarcastic which you aren't doing a good job of.
What a great, lovely man. One of my favourite books is 'Travels', his not widely known collection of personal essays--marvellous stuff! The final essay is titled 'Skeptics at Cal-Tech', an address he was asked to give at the college until the boffins read his very un-Richard Dawkins like opinions on the nature of God and the supernatural. He was soon disinvited, a very early example of being cancelled circa the early 1980s. I would give anything to hear his take on the woke madness now spreading through college campuses and the media in the States right now.--Kevin Whelan

An essay about making the film and his experiences of Connery can be found in 'Travels'-- I cannot recommend that book highly enough. I never read anything like it.--Kevin Whelan
