I never would’ve thought Michael Finley would’ve talked for more than an hour. He always seemed so quiet and serious on the court. One of the most underrated and under appreciated players ever
@@Trent_Moorman yes that’s true however I wasn’t questioning his ability to verbalize and communicate in a an eloquent manner. I was just saying I was surprised he talked for such a long length of time because he was always one of the quietest guys out there. Always rooted for him because of how serious he was about his craft.
When I got the notification that Mike Finley was on Knuckle head I immediately watched the show, one of the classiest guys to ever come out of Chicago and to play in the NBA, Q & D now I need for you guys to go get Janeiro Pargo on the show Big ups to knuckleheads!
This man could have walked from a really awful Mavs team, and chose to stay. I will forever love him for that. Loved him before that, but that one move made me want to build a statue in his honor. The Mavs were really, really bad. And he stayed. I was crushed when he had to win it in SA. Michael Finley, you are a true hero of mine. For a lot more reasons than basketball. Thanks guys for having him on. This made me really happy.
And it was real shady how the Mavs fans booed him when he returned. He was waived because of his salary! He didn't walk (I think the media turned them against him)! Cuban was embarrassed about the fans reaction and publicly apologized. Fin was a true class act and they've treated him great ever since then.
@@mikeevans9392 Not sure if I'm living in an alternate reality but I vividly remember going to that game. The whole crowd gave him a standing ovation when he came in mid 1st quarter. My sister who watches zero basketball was confused why the whole crowd was cheering during free throws. Not sure where the booing story comes from but I think it was because Dirk, if I'm not mistaken was asked about Finley coming back to play as a spur and Dirk jokingly said the fans should boo him instead.
I always loved Michael Finley's game and the way that he conducted himself, he was a true professional in every sense of the word, and on the court he was a killer . I appreciate him and the game he brought to the court .....SALUTE
Salute to Mike Finley! A complete basketball player. Left hand, right hand, mid range, three ball, baseline monster, lockdown defender, all out hustle and good guy.
I went to High School with Michael Finley. My family grew up with his family. I met his mom (Very Kind woman who forever changed our life for the better with the help of her son) and I met his sister 4 years ago (RIH). Nice people. I strive to be as classy, wise and professional as Michael Finley. One of these days I'll get it right. A coworker once told me that his Leyden team got into a fight with our team and Finley was the only one to shake their hands. Always a class act. When I first discovered Mike, July 1990 (I met our older legend Doc Rivers the same month), he was already 6'6" (I never knew he had just had a growth spurt). He was a summer Referee for the School District 89. During downtime he enjoyed practicing half court shots. My coach would later tell me Mike was the smartest player he ever coached. He had a 3.8/4.0 GPA. Already a smart leader. I read a newspaper article about how he was always number 2 or 3 when Donnie and Sherrell was around. But they went away to camps so Mike got a chance to shine. I remember thinking who is Michael Finley?????? And later I figured it out, he is the tall referee who everybody calls Mike who likes to shoot half court shots in his spare time. So the other two Amigos came back from camp and I'm thinking to myself is this a high school or is this the NBA????? All these great basketball players around here, what am I seeing??? What I did not realize was that I wasn't looking at no ordinary HS basketball team in no ordinary little basketball town. I would later realize that I was looking at the best HS basketball team in the country!!!!!! What a ride. It was a team that sent 3 of it's seniors to the 1995 NBA Draft (Michael Finley, Sherrell Ford and Donnie Boyce), won 2 consecutive state championships and only lost 1 game in 2 years. Also we hold the record, we sent more guys to the NBA than any other school in Illinois. And we have one of the longest winning streaks in Illinios State history. But yea, Mike that's one of our brightest legends 🏀💪. Keep on keeping on Big Mike from the P.E. Hallways.
Garfield Griants, Proviso East Pirates, Maywood. I was a couple years ahead of Mike. I was in Ray Buchanan's graduating class. Mr. McCall was a huge influence and father figure to Micheael. Do remember McCall's Bumblebees?
@@lanceparker4796 The first time I heard of the Bumble Bees was about 4 years ago. Before my basketball watching time. I remember the Buchanan Brothers since I was 4 years old. Maybe because they look alike. I had Geometry with Shorty Buchanan (When he was a senior & I was a Sophomore) in Mr. Masske's super hard class lol. Math was my best subject so I took all my Math classes with the Upperclassmen.
@@WildL23 I remember Mr. Maaske. Coach Hitt and Coach Morgan was my social studies teachers. Coach Williams was my Spanish teacher. Mr. Farenelli(sp) was the coolest gym teacher. Could not stand Mr. Rizer(sp)
@@lanceparker4796 Yea good times but I don't know any coach Morgan and no coach Williams. I didn't show up until 1990. I'm the good luck charm of Proviso East. As soon as I showed up we started winning, basketball and wrestling. It took Rasheed Wallace and Simon Gratz to end our winning streak. I don't know what possessed us go out to Philadelia and get tangled up with Rasheed Wallace but that's what we did. And our 60 something game winning streak was snapped. It's all good though. East won more games/State Championships while I was there than any other time in school history. My luck did it.
The best part of the interview was the genuine appreciation Finley showed Q and D Miles with his closing statement. That wasn't for the cameras but I'm glad they filmed it. That was strictly for Q and D Miles because he wanted to acknowledge their success and hard work. It's definitely well deserved.
Dope interview fella's.. One of the most underrated ballers EVER.. was watching one of his highlight videos the other day just to remember how cold Fin was.. good stuff.
One thing that would push these interviews over the top would be if yall showed the "bust ya ass" plays and cut them at some point in the "bust ya ass" story...like after Finley said the move and said "that boy fa'real" cut to highlight/lowlight lol. Hell you could even show a short highlight clip at the beginning or ending of each interview. This would help the youngn's to understand who your guests were frfr. Good shit tho fellaz
That would be dope but you know the NBA and their copyright rules. Then again I don't see why the NBA wouldn't partner up and give the people what they want. Highlights would take this shit to the next level.
That's why Isiah is so great he is so real and honest, Michael Finley was such a phenomenal player. Such a very talented player. Charles is also so honest as well.
Michael Finleys definitely deserved all the flowers. Class all the way through. Also he was an absolute problem on the court. Y'all outdid yourselves with this one!
I love this show because D miles and Q ask real real good questions. A lot of these so called podcasts just ask boring and stupid questions and just wanna smoke all day…salute the knuckle heads
Another Dope interview Chicago's lands Very own Michael Finley, He was a problem in the Big Ten at Wisconsin & a solid pro player. First class of Jordan brand!!! That says it all. Those WGN Chicago bulls games was a must Growing up in Chicago #Dantana773
I'll never forget seeing Michael Finley in a hood club in Indianapolis during the 2002 World Games. He was by himself, no security, no homies and he was cool as hell. Nobody gave him any problems.
An absolutely Great Interview. A Great and wonderful Guest to interview. Mr Finley is a quality player that will give you 110%. Thanks Mr. Finley for always making people great around you. You helped everyone grow the right way. Q and D outstanding interview. Thanks guys.
Q and D Miles ….y’all have to get Eddie Jones on here, tell him his HS classmate said, “come off the golf course for a day and sit down with ya’ll” aka Pompano Beach finest c/o 90 EHS ….aka ICE !! Love the show ….”real Ballers” 100
This was a real treat being from Chicago, I remember grabbing a Sun-Times in 91 and see Sherrell Ford Mr.Illinois . I grew up out east and was not familiar with Maywood High school basketball until 91. Finely and Juwaun Howard make the city look so good cause they just classy in so many ways and show that Chi got some real life playas, and me being born in 72 I can't do nothing but admire and respect it. Q&D keep being great.
Stg!!! Dirk, Finley, Nash … One year they had Antawn Jamison, Nick Van Exel Raef LaFrentz stretching the floor 😂. Them and Sacramento used to be the squads to run w/ 💯🔥 … miss this era of the NBA
@@JayNowitzki Facts ^^ forgot about him! I can’t believe they had all that talent and lost 4-1 in the first round 😂 the West was CRAZY back then smfh (edit: and they had Josh Howard too wtf)
All The Smoke has gone too Hollywood....it started off so good too. Knuckleheadz thankfully is staying true to it. Big difference from Black Effects to Players Tribune.
You guys went and got one of the, " Three Amigos." 😂😂💪 I remember just as much about Mike in Highschool as I do at Wisconsin, when Reshard Griffin joined him. But a little unknown secret is Mike played MJ a one on one when he was in highschool and MJ said he was going to be in the league. Much love and respect
Very nice tribute Q-Rich! I remember you did the same with Juwan Howard! I realize you and D. Miles have a ton of admiration and respect for your guests, but those two stand out and it shows in your platform. I don't think you go overboard in your praise, you're letting them know exactly the impact they have on you and how you feel about them. There's nothing wrong with that! Mad respect to you and D. Miles for this interview and all your other ones!
Absolutely loved it and looked forward to this. Michael Finley had no fear of Jordan, no back down, and played a lot like MJ. Proud to say I got to see him play live at Reunion Arena against a young KG and Marbury. 2OT’s that night. I would love to see Finley’s Jordan room!
He one of my favorite players! Specially when he was playing for Dallas! This is the best basketball podcast in the planet. Again showing love and appreciation from the Philippines!
Proviso East legend‼️ My high school team played his team. Dude got break away & took off from just inside free throw line for dunk & missed it. The echo in the gymnasium was crazy no doubt 🎯‼️
You could tell Mike is a healthy guy full of confidence and self-esteem. He is able to be transparent about things even the embarrasing moments like cartwheel. Legend.
Broke my heart when the Suns traded him for Jason Kidd.Even tho it was Jason Kidd, Fins was my guy.Him & Amare are my two all time favorite Suns rookies. They came in yamming on dudes from the jump.
Being from Dallas living in Florida boy that Mavs team was represented well in Florida by me and my cosuins, loved seen that team balled out they were a problem and those battles with the spurs were something else nice hearing from fin and he's a Mav for life and now working for them 🦾💯
YUP!!! y’all done it again..Dirk is forever one of my favorite players and his earliest teams with JKidd and then Steve Nash with Finley the whole time!! loved the whole squad!! so happy he was able to get to the Spurs at the end of his career and win that chip as a steady player!!! truly redefined his whole game after being one of the main guys in Dallas! keep it up Knuckleheads!! love the podcast and interviews man!!!
I love this podcast. I feel sorry for Q kid's and grandkids tho. Lmao. I already know he one of them long-winded dads and he definitely going to be a long-winded granddad. Lmao
I went to PROVISO EAST high school in MAYWOOD ILLINOIS. I was on the wrestling team and we won state in wrestling when Mike, Donnie & Sherrell took state in Basketball...GOLDEN YEARS of Proviso East. I remember Joe Moore and Michael Finley were friends as well.. Michael Finley is a MAYWOOD ILLINOIS Legend! He also brought Stars & Celebrities to MAYWOOD ILLINOIS and Proviso East and had a Concert on the Football Field! God Bless!!
Always been a fan of Mike Finley. He was a great player but I always felt like he could have been more in terms of being a superstar in the league. Just think his personality was different because he was unstoppable in his prime.
I met Michael Finley he is a great guy. I met him at the Pistons vs Mavs. It was in Detroit this year too. Cool guy. I wish I got his autograph. I played him on 99 on NBA live 96 when was a rookie. I told him that too.
