Michael's ability to transport the listener to a "mind vacation" has always been his strongest forte. He never fails to give the listener the smoothest form of mind flows. Always a great "getaway."
@@johnflechas6315 Yes,he's the reason I want to go to Brazil. I'm from snowy Saginaw mi. And in the late 70's a r&b group called Maze had a song called "look at California" which influence me to not only choose California as my military base, but to move to Oakland after discharge and staying 20 years not knowing anyone. Ironically,I just returned from visiting the bay area after a 23 year hiatus 😊
I first heard Michael sing Popsicle Toes and Eggplant, maybe around that time - I was 17 and it would have been on KSHE in St. Louis. He's incredible and unique1. I fell in love with the Blue Pacific album.. the last song "Crayon Sun (Safe at Home)" is one of my favorites. I thought I heard a bit of James Taylor in background vocal, but it's his brother Livingston.. his voice was perfect for getting the effect.
A good dad ! keep traveling in music land there is SO MUCH great music special from the past when you had to be really good to get attention ! If you want i can give you some tips but with a dad like yours that would be not necessary
Michael Franks was one of my favorites! I've listened to him since the seventies! And just to let you know he is doing fine as ever and sounds exactly the same! I know this because he recently had a show at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre in Detroit in which i did attend! His show was quite the experience! He sang most of his old songs as well as new, and he performed, loved the show!
Whether I’m home or on the highway I’m always to Michael Franks. His music takes me places I’ve never been before in my life. So serene and classy. I heard this track on a jazz station and I instantly started listening to his music. Pure perfection❤️🤍
i got my old 1973album of Michael Franks of Down in Brazil, i kept this for years and will listen his soothing jazz music over the old turntable ..nice memories to recall when i was only 17 years old that time. Now, im 66 yrs old ... i let my 21 yrs old son hear his jazz music.
I'd go back to Brazil today if there were no hideous Covid. I love Brazil, Rio de Janiero, and the remote Amazon rain forest. It took 4 days for my clothes to dry (on a tributary of the Amazon) and even then they were still damp. Beautiful song, accurate song, lovely Michael Franks! I've been your fan for decades!! God bless you and your happy heart!
@@kevinshea8937 I would not worry at all about not speaking Portuguese!! Spanish and Portuguese are a bit different but you'd get by just fine. A lot of people there also speak English, and really the people are just so beautiful they do not really care so much if their language is not spoken perfectly! I'm sure I butchered quite a few words. The word "digame" is the same in Spanish as Portuguese. Others there are differences, but you can get by with sign language and in a pinch I even used a pencil and paper to draw what I meant on more than one occasion. Even the Spanish in Spain is a bit different than that of Spanish in Mexico. When you go, just be prepared to have the most lovely time, a beautiful adventure, you will never regret it.
@@janemyers1936 Thanks so much Jane! This Covid-19 craziness has awakened a hunger for Brazilian music that had me so fascinated in the late 60's and on and on! I've been listening to a lot of Ivete Sangalo, Gal Costa, Caetano Veloso, etc. Such beautiful vibes!!
Jane Myers. A perfect definition of "essence" and Brazilian values ... Very kind, Brazilian greetings ..Jane Myers. Uma perfeita definição da "essência" e valores brasileiros...Muito gentil, saudações brasileiras..
Mr. Michael Franks one of a kind voice and especially lyrics are completely unique. His amazing mix of soft jazz, bossa nova and soul into One is pure pleasure, happiness and satisfaction to listen to. Note: All his musicians are world class on all levels. I have all of your albums. Love & Peace, Michael
Il est pour moi 1 voix unique toute ma jeunesse j'ai 61 ans et je danse sur ces belles chansons elles sont entrée dans mes sens comme 1 parfum subtil. Faou.
Remember as an 18 year old...leaving home for the big city..Had an apartment in the attic of an old house. Found a Michael Franks LP...loved it. Spent many cold winter nights with that LP on my turntable...suddenly I am Down in Brazil! Really liked Micheal Franks material ever since...
I went to Brasil in 1985-86 because of this song and also Jardim Botanico which I also saw. Spent Christmas , New Years and Carnaval there six blocks from Copacabana Beach for $15/night. Met many amazing Cariocas and Argentinians. Also met MF ~ 1988 after his performance at Universal Ampitheatre in LA. Very nice man, posed for pics with me in the Sheraton hotel lobby after the gig. Been following him since college in the 70s. Hopefully there is one more album forthcoming in 2024 :).
Classic Franks. Smooth, melodious, pleasing, romantic melodies and lyrics with universal appeal. What a gem! Can they make more of him? And always accompanied by the best musical backup talents! aaaah.
Michael Franks is the only one of a kind. Unpredictable type of music (love song, slow & sweet jazz with samba). I just love to hear his music. So soothing and makes me go back down memory lane…❤
One of the coolest singer snd yet one of the best on his genre!!! I love listening to his songs. I guess you can hear a lot of instruments. Still lovin hearing his songs way back from late 70s till now. His genre is unmatched. Mellow, samba, jazz!!!
I share the same sentiments my first song I heard was love is like baseball at age of 9 later on that song inspired me to write poetry I wrote a Poem titled "mixed nuts love" his music is still relevant today. 😘 for Michael Franks😉
Lot's of uncertainty in my life with the pandemic and all, but god, this puts me in a better place!!! Michael Franks has done that for me for years man 👍
Michael Frank's is a phenomenal lyricist and poet blended with soulful splendor and jazz so so smooth and mellow. Can you dig it !!! comments by Charles A Simmons
La musica di M. Franks è un sollievo per l'anima (e non solo). Peccato che non lo si possa vedere dal vivo in Italia! Un grandissimo del pop jazz di sempre.
This song prompted my trip to Rio just before Christmas of 1985. I stayed for two months to include Carnaval. Stayed six blocks from Copa Cabana beach for $15/night. Visited all the sights including Jardim Botanico - another MF song. Lovely place, lovely people. No racism. Happy Memories!
I lived in Recife and my ex there. The best part of Brazil is the people. It was extremely hard to leave it and come back to the states. In Brazil, you feel alive, vibrant. Here in the USA, it feels like I am half dead. It is that different. Viva Brazil!!!
Michael Franks music is that rare combination of pure relaxation blended with sensual satisfaction very much like a young woman I once knew named Wendy, who brought me pure ecstasy that only a woman like her can bring to a man. She loved his music too. Just the thought of her still brings me joy and gratitude. She was a great blessing in my life.
I love Brazil, and this song is a perfect tribute to it! So sexy, so much feeling when he sings; you can't help but feel it. Beautiful piano and guitar solo, flute, this is Music to Enjoy!
I m to play soccer as a young man the promoter of the tournament was a teacher he used to bring his music vocals and his Big Telefunken hifi record player and connect it with big sound speakers ,that was wonderfull and those were the days of my youthfulness playing Michael Franks, Eddie Harries Hank Crawford The Commodores Crusaders and more ,we leant to love jazz music then.
Keep it going Michael On the road in 2023. First opp for this Michael was in 1980 in Sydney with Crossfire at the Capitol and then an unbelievable St James Tavern on a Saturday night and then on to Dallas House of Blues 2013 to rekindle par excellence. Your music is a heartbeat of a beautiful generation. Hoping to be there one more time ... live. Thank you so much
Michael Franks has always been one of my favorites. His voice, lyrics and musicians are best-in-class! They create an amazingly smooth vibe every time!
Michael Franks is phenomenal, in a class by himself! This superb performance is from the DVD, "Michael Franks - Live At The Blue Note, Tokyo, 1993" (not "Tokio 1991")
MF the best - listening since my youth! What a lyricist and always the best backing too. "All those coffee girls in high heel shoes will surely cure your blues." Awesome
Michael Franks music is definitely the kind of music that can be passed down from generation to generation I first heard it before I was leaving the teenager and I've been listening to it ever since I'm now 53 years old and I still love him
That is my old high school friend Steve Logan on bass! He was awesome even at 16! Sadly he passed away a few years ago! It was so nice to see him doing what he loved to do best! Thank you sooooo much for posting this!
Hey Darryl--it's never helpful when comparing one musicians style to another- Anthony Jackson is a legendary bassist- with his own unique voice-- this bassist Steve- has his own unique voice-I still hate it when folks compare Jaco with Stanley-it's like apples and oranges-2 unique voice and both have something special to say--Jazz musicians often state that they have no competition because they're not competing- that's the way you played it-this is the way I'm going to play it 🎵
i think from now on i will spend my entire time listening michael franks songs until the day i die its really been a hard time just to find this kind of song but i know there will be a time that in this generation right now will have this kind of songs
A awesome singer that I remember from the 70's, who sang many favorites. This beautiful selection is classic, from Michael Frank's. Thank you, You Tube !!!
Since time, this guy has been consistent in playing his music the way it has always been,a gesture of discipline in himself..Lets grow old together michael!
Gosh, golly gee.... chills.... a blessing to hear real musicians making real music and singing as only Michael Franks can. Exquisitely divine. Thank you so much for this gorgeous treat.
How lucky to be able to be one on one with this man...Years ago a musician Gere Weaver introduced me to his music and have always been there since...By the way if you've ever known a musician named Gere Weaver tell him we miss him...Lillian
