Yes that’s right sell the library. Well the government loaned the council the £189M in the first place. Just part of the prettified horizon that has caused this mess. What was wrong with the original perfectly functional brutalist building in the first place? Nothing. And where will the vast reference collection go now, that serves the people of Birmingham once it’s sold? Do the Government have an answer for that. It’s such a terrible shame.

i got a D in maths but its pretty simple money in has to be more than money out, they make millions a day off the clean air scam. first step is stop perks,expenses, freebies. my local council had 3 million pounds from the public and invested in Icelandic banks, lost it all. mismanagement should come with a jail term. afew have commented in here of the reasons why this has happened. like the court case of fair pay for women, should have been paid same anyway ,shouldnt need a court case.

I bet now this has come to light many more will be soon admitting the same! Our council tax and rent increase yearly yet we get less and less in return. Its time the higher bodies are brought to justice for millions wasted and the citizens are prioritised ! By my councils mistake on various times ive had more money than should taken from me , yet when i demand for it back i have to fight for months, recently again due to my councils mistake they wrote to me threatning eviction for rent a week late but again i had to do the job of proving im not behind with my rent!

Them council leaders should be dragged out of their comfy offices, flogged and shamed.

The money spent on the commonwealth games was ludicrous. I said to someone the other day " did the common wealth games actually happen ?" And i am a midlander .everytime i walked through B city center ! It was a construction site. Where does all the money come from and all the wasted money to scammers charging 100 quid to take a girl to school 4 mile by a taxi firm funded by the birmingham council . How about all those (hundreds and hundreds of well-paid staff) who worked for the council and took full advantage demanding that they wanted 'more money' which is understandable, considering the cost of living but these individuals were already 'comfortable. The amounts paid out are far, far beyond reasonable.. The pay-back and pay rise was in several tens of thousands for each and every individual! What they demanded was a back-date of yearly pay, for example: £143,079 rising to £213,656. It certainly begs the question, what for exactly? Another example is the 'Director of Public Health (NHS): Their salary fell within a range between £107,459, which rose to £160,226. There were 2 further statutory payments made in relation to this role. Needless-to-say, that this was just the tip of the ice-berg. I'm fairly certain we will know the corrupt ones as they will be handing in their notice and no doubt living the life of Riley, after rinsing Birmingham Council dry.
