A film It's not reality. It's a model of reality If you like. [...] That's the only way to regard fiction films. If you try to make a documentary I think the problem It's even worse. Because in a documentary you are trying to show really but you are only showing a tiny part of it and that's supposed to represent reality. That's the dsnger of documentaries and of fiction. If you realise that you can be more aware of this dangers. In a way, It's manipulation. If you make the viewer aware of this manipulation then that's much more honest
Had the same train of thought after watching what in my opinion is a documentary that does pull off what Haneke is talking about. 1969’s Salesman. It just made me realize how fictional everything else i watched was. That documentary deeply unsettled me
Great suggestions. Thank goodness we don’t have to follow through with them all. Saying that I hope our benefit system and education system and security in society doesn’t break down completely, leave us having to fight simply to survive. In this circumstance I would, like most I’d suppose, be very wary of expectations in such a lived reality, our reflection upon it.
