I’m a grown ass man and Michael makes me feel like a child. When I read the top selling artists of all time, I don’t believe their numbers, because I think he far surpasses everyone. Michael Jackson is bigger than music. The most famous person in history probably outside of Jesus. We miss you Michael
@@meaninthemirroryeah its kinda sad but thats just how life goes we always move forward, people these days they only know mj as a pedo theres a video i saw once it was in a zoo and the gorilla started masturbating in front of kids and the kids yell "oh my god its michael jackson" i know its funny but thats just the sad reality of life no matter how important you are people will always move on from you. or sometimes they question his importance in the world like i saw a lot of comments from this generation they keep saying whats so great about mj? is it just Nostalgia? but you know we cant blame them coz me im a huge fan of entertainment industry in general that's one of the reasons why i always look at mj in high regards. but like again thats just life few years from now for sure somebody will reach the same heights mj reach but no one will beat him coz that's his record but im 100% sure somebody someday will be huge and important as him, but once that somebody time passed new generation will hate him and move on from him/her sad reality of life

This man is a true perfectionist. Not him crying about the spin and the toe stand (he cared about those details and said forget about the big picture). But his perfectionist ways got him so far.

Thriller is my favorite album of all time and I always am amazed when I think of how many copies were sold in a time with no streaming and no social media. No one has nor will no one be the force that was Michael Jackson.
You nailed this. I want to say, as a '01 baby, it always felt like I experienced Thriller era/ prime MJ madness. He was, and will always be, HUGE. Like when he died, I can recall crying and feeling the shock throughout my house/community when the news broke. It's insane the hold he has on us...He's the definition of pop/household name. RIP to the King of Pop, the anomaly.
i’m certain one of his traits that made him such a star with obsessive fans was his soft demeanor and personality. it’s so subversive for a man in his position. to be so humble and gentle while having such passion and fierceness in his art and performance is so much more approachable and loveable and admirable.
I'm a X-Gen boomer who lived through the Thriller phenomenon....what a time to to be alive. MJ was certainly one of a kind and I miss him tremendously. Thank you for this video.
Yes! Michael Jackson was not just the king of music back then; he was the God of music. The man ruled. You could not go to a mall without seeing MJ merch everywhere, and everyone was wearing a Thriller or Beat It jacket. I am an 80s kid and was 11 when Thriller came out. The good thing is I looked a lot like him back then, so it gave me a huge advantage over boys because the girls adored me, and they called me MJ. I just feel sorry for today's kids, who will never know how amazing the 80's were.
@@DarkandTwistedI used to love walking past the stores to see MJ merchandise and i used to frequent a video store daily just to look at the MAKING OF MJ'S THRILLER front and back...yes it was that serious and the obsession was REAL!!!!
You wondered how it must've felt, during this era. As a 1976 Gen-Xer.....Harlem, NYC native (the classic era of NYC you only see on old films and videos).....and youngest of 3 black brothers....I can attest: Michael Jackson was UBIQUITOUS, from1983---Spring, 1985. We were with our Mom when she picked us up from school...and purchased "Thriller" from the record store, in 1982. My brothers and I ( all 3 of us ) were in our underclothes.....watching "Motown 25", with our Mom. I even have the picture of my brother receiving the Michael Jackson DOLL on his birthday (October, 1984). Everyone wanted the DOLL of this Black man. I'm sitting beside my brother in the picture, looking jealous as hell.😄But, then I got my doll, on Christmas. There was no Martin Luther King holiday. No Oprah. No Barack Obama. A DARK-SKINNED MAN and his Black American family were everywhere. Janet was on NBC Television with "Different Strokes". Jermaine had his gold album. Rebbie had a successful single and music video ("Centipede"). "THRILLER" ALSO PREMIERED ON NBC TELEVISION (not everyone could afford cable, or MTV. So, it was on NBC. Everyone was talking about the "Thriller" movie, the next day). We'd never experienced ONE musician so HUGE, before. People can say Elvis Presley, but I think Michael surpassed him. For 2.5 years ( and again, during the "BAD" era of 1987--1988 ) Michael simultaneously crossed all countries/ethnicities/religions. You see President Ronald Reagan beside Michael, as Michael is donned in his Grammy Awards/military attire?? Also, Michael in the oval office of the White House?? THAT was Michael mania, in 1984. We were too poor to go to the 1984 "Victory" concert, though.
Man what a lovely story I super enjoyed reading it...I'm a generation xer 1981 and believe me you literally took me back you forgot to mention MJ'S Pepsi commercial..I used to get hyped seeing it
@@MOLICIOUS69 Oh yeah. Of course I remember that. This is while Alfonso Ribero was only known as “The Tap Dance Kid”. This was a successful theater show on Broadway. Hence, him getting the role to star in the Pepsi commercial with the Jacksons.
@@domarq and the victory tour started a day after I turned three..it was July 6 1984 ..and on my 3rd 🎂 Michael had that infamous press conference about ticketing process of concert tickets
@@MOLICIOUS69if you were born in 1981 you are a milleanial not a gen Xer, and most likely you didn't experience the Thriller craze, yes you were alive but did you really know what was going on at age 2-3?
I’m so glad I grew up during MJ mania..my aunt recently sent me a video of me singing beat it with a friend at 5/6 years old..I’m 43 now and have loved MJ my entire life..I had his posters in my room and he’s the first artist I truly loved and shaped my taste in music..this was a great video..thank you for it
Unfortunately, Michael Jackson is at the part in his career where EVERY Black Legacy goes. If you know the cycle how Celebrity women go with the public, a similar thing always happens to Black Legacies, where everyone will hate them, love them, then hate them, but it goes even further. They try to erase their legacy and act like they didn’t hold any importance. There honestly should be a study done on it because it ALWAYS happens.
Yet he broke away from those chains and prevailed! And by doing that they were envy of him and had a vendetta towards destroying his legacy unfortunately for them it didn’t work & will never work.👑🎯💯
Stop turning it into a race issue again will you. From what I can remember (I'm 44) it was infact the black community that rejected him in late 80s when they thought he wanted to be white. This is why MJ wanted to talk about it with Oprah in 93.
stop being so dramatic… everyone knows michael jackson’s legacy cannot be erased and that he already reached a higher ground than any black or white entertainer before or after him.
Yeah, because the pedo accusations were totally put on him because he was black and not because he was acting werid af with little boys. Yall need to stop. Yall play vicitm endlessly. It makes it hard to take any of you seriously.
Awesome such great success with Thriller, I will say I’m very proud of the fact that I am and will always continue my love and support for Michael Jackson. As well as always loving J5,Janet Jackson. You all will always have my support and love for making great music and forever putting a smile on my face.😎🥰😎🥰😎🥰😎🥰😎😎🥰😎🥰😎🥰😎
Guinness Word records at one point had thriller sales at 110 million plus, not 70. I am sure the official count is being diminished in order to someday move a white artist in to the number 1 spot. I have seen evidence that Thriller being ranked 2nd in the USA is also manipulated to keep out of the #1 spot.
The kids did not show Michael how to moonwalk.. It was Jeffrey Daniel's from the group Shalamar who taught him how to. Michael knew how to do the move since 1980, while he was on the Triumph tour with his brothers in 1981. He finally revealed the move in the Motown 25 special in 1983..
Thriller started when Off the Wall finished & didn’t get the recognition it deserved …. It was MJ who strongly desired in his heart to produce an album where ALL the songs would be a single & chart-topper… to produce an album that the critics & industry & fans will never be able to ignore… We are all fortunate to have been in that era & even if Thriller was recorded today ( Nov 13, 2023) it would still be tops as the Best Album Ever Produced …Period …!!! Below is why this Phenomena will never happen, ever, again … It was purely a marvellous convergence of Divinely ordained circumstances that brought ALL the below listed personalities who had come together to produce Thriller… Firstly, you had to have an artist like MJ, who literally gave his life fir his artistry & craft, at ALL Levels…. From the composing, to the arrangements, to the production, to the marketing & promotions, to the short films, to the Blockbusting highest grossing Global Tours on every continent… From all the composers, especially Rod Temperton, Steve Porcaro, Paul McCartney, James Ingram on Thriller, to Quincy - The Greatest Producer who ever lived, to Bruce Swedien- Arguably the best Sonic Authority, in the business, to Anthony Marrinelly & Michael Boddicker, Brian Banks, & all the other programmers, studio engineers & staff… to all the A-List fabulous Top of their game musicians, from the guys of Toto, Steve Lukather, to Jeff Porcaro to Eddie Van Halen … the list is too long… but go here to see the full list… (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thriller_(album)) to the Mastering Engineer Bernie Grundman, to the great marketing & promotions team at CBS, led by MJ’s Manager at that time- Frank Dileo & to the legal team led by John Branca & to the short film directors, John Landis, Steve Barron, Bob Giraldi, & that’s just some of the key people…. There are tons of others who made Thriller the zeitgeist it was … And it will be humbling & safe to say, that unless Our Divine Creator ordains it, Thriller will remain, the greatest Album Ever Produced by the Greatest Artist of All Time …Period…!!! 😍
I was 14 and in high school when Thriller came out. My 1st memories of Mike were with the Jackson 5. I was 4(or 5)when i saw them perform Daddy's Home on Soul Train. Me or my family never bought the Thriller album, didnt have to. Every song on that album was played on the radio daily(some radio stations would play the entire album late at night, by request). For at least a year and a half(1983-84), Thriller WAS the album to listen too. I didnt catch on to the significance and impact of this album until X-mas 1982 when i heard Billie Jean for the 1st time and when i saw the video in JAN '83. Every video show(except MTV) was playing MJ's videos. Around the time MTV lifted the "ban" on black artists, MJ released the Beat it and Thriller videos. The 1984 American Music Awards and The Grammy's that year were great, you might as well called them the Michael Jackson awards show. I saw both shows when he won all those AMA and Grammy's. Legendary performer and is missed. RIP Mike🙏🏾♥🌹🎶
Watch it when I was 9. In Senegal. Walked 2 miles and sit in a total stranger's house. BLack and white TV with a plastic rose screen to similate color. Time has changed a lot. Neigbors were liké families.
Good video man. Made me tear up a bit. I’m 36 and my dad had the Thriller vhs and beta tape. At 3 years old I used to watch it every Saturday morning after cartoons from beginning to end. I learned how to sing from watching Who’s Loving You over and over and over again in the beginning of that tape and learned how to dance watching Billie Jean, Beat It and Thriller. I would later learn just how magical he was from watching Moonwalker with Bad, Speed Demon and Smooth Criminal. My favorite artist and one my favorite people, Michael was like a part of my family. I’ll never forget waking up one day and hearing my dad hollering. When I walked into the living room the old man was crying like a baby, he stood up and hugged me and told me the bad news of him passing. I was deeply crushed for we had planned to go see him on the This Is It tour. To this day I still get choked up about it or when I watch or listen to these songs. He was truly a special gift from beyond and there will never be another like him
This was awesome and I thank you for being one of many keeping his memory alive! I missed the J5 era and too young for Off The Wall era. I am so glad I was old enough to be part of the Thriller era. At 9, I was the first in my neighborhood to purchase the album with my allowance and literally walked around with it many days. It was at this time I felt that I was the biggest MJ fan watching and collecting everything I could on him. My room plastered with MJ’s/Jackson’s pics/articles. I recall always crying whenever I saw him on tv and my parents not understanding why. However, my parents took me and my best friend to see the Jackson’s Victory Tour which was my 1st concert. This era was magical and there was an innocence about it. Everyone walking around with Jheri Curls and a Beat It/Billie Jean/Thriller jacket on. Best time to be a kid!
thank you for the whole video, so well done with the info and really quality editing.. and i loved your last statement, i so resonate with it. for me as i first saw him as a kid, watching his videos and concerts on a small tv, dancing along side it, with a jaw drop.. his energy and presence just transported me into the powerful magic of music and dance.. like a true magician.. inspiring, super-human, mysterious, powerful, real and elusive, an artist of imagination and amazing music channeler..
So well done. I had my record store at the time this LP was released. I fondly remember the magic of Thriller. A perfect album. A beautiful time to be alive. Thanks for your work in putting this tribute together.
Ngl quincy was a hater. Quincy knew Billie Jean was a hit. He didn't wanna give michael his credit. That is quincys Ego. He didn't like nothing michael composed or did.
MJ will forever be legendary! I remember begging my mom back in 1984 to buy me the thriller album. Now my boys keep his spirit alive performing his songs with passion. Love you MJ . You was a bad MF!

I cant believe it! Human Nature was literally released the day and year I was born! Ive always felt a special connection with that song like you and now i know why! Im so glad i found this video! You put out great content my man!
It’s funny my name is Wayne too. But I thank you so much for making this video. I love Michael Jackson as a musician and an entertainer, of course. But what I adore most is the sincere, kind, and loving person he was….the man and the soul behind all the music and iconic performances. I really enjoyed this Wayne. Once again, my deepest thanks for what you’ve done with this video. God bless you my friend.
Great video! I really enjoyed it! Informative, interesting and with a wonderful note from you at the end! You could continue on about the many accomplishments in his career yet that would be a long video. Thriller was a phenomenon! Thank you for sharing! 😊🙏🏽💯
Great clip. I lived through his J5 early fame and of course the ‘Thriller’ juggernaut. Beatlemania is its only comparative. His likeness was everywhere at all times for almost two years. The world has sought that magic period to date but, due to so many changes totaling he industry, I don’t think it can be repeated. Never forget this great man.
BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED!!! Excellent worik!! Michael would be proud to have you oromoting his art!! I hope you do History, Blood on the Dance Floor & Invincible!! THX for your hard work it was worth it!!
There was an element to him that is rarely mentioned, but it is felt by everyone, wether they want to admit it or not, his energy, aura, charisma, personality, spirit, smile. Him, so grgeous, handsome, attractive, perfect with his imperfections, on top of it. THE WORLD WAS CRAZY FALLEN IN LOVE WITH HIM. The WHOLE WORLD. He makes you feel the magic and makes you believe a better world could be. You escape in his art to that magic world. His music is cathartic. That special spark in his eyes and his smile make the difference.
Later artists did good music, good dancing, had moves, good production, but they never came even close to the TRUE LOVE and adoration the WHOLE WORLD had for him. His honest soul was the special ingredient.
Wayne I'm so sorry you weren't around during the "Thriller" era. To live through it was a special time. The last two months of 1982, "Thriller" & Prince's "1999" officially kick started the Eighties
This documentary is awesome bro! I wish more young people could watch this so that they can learn more about the history of music. Especially the part where MTV wasn’t playing Black artists
I had the fortunate pleasure to be alive during that era. I was eight when Billy Jean and the album dropped. Not to diminish the accomplishments of many other great artists out there, but I can tell you that there has never been anything since to even come close to the cultural phenomenon that is the album Thriller and the music icon Michael Jackson himself. If you weren’t alive during that era, I can’t even explain the effect Thriller and MJ had on worldwide pop culture during the mid ‘80. My mom even brought the Thriller album and was a huge fan of MJ and she was a devote Christian who didn’t listen to secular music. That was her first and only secular album ever. That shows you just how mind-blowing the Thriller era was. Its effects still reverberate throughout music and pop culture to this day.
It has sold 70 Million. Back then, copies being sold kinda were incorrect all the time. But maybe those could be copied not counted on purpose by the white ran companies
The false 70 million wiki is so untrue it hurts. I'm 44 and it was 70 million in the early 90s. I can guarantee in 10 years will still say 70 million. In 2006 he had 104 million by guineas world records. It's 120+ now.
Michael borrowed from a lot of other artists too. But he was great. MTV played all colors as long as they fitted their format of Rock & Roll. Thriller won 7 grammies; the 8th was for the E.T. storybook
I knew you were the truth when you made the comment about him landing on one toe before the other 22:56 . Salute to you for that one. He was very unhappy about that performance right after it
