I remember people talking about the transition effects back when this came out. It blew alot of people's minds. The fact that it is still seen as flawless in 2023 says just how pioneering it was.

Back in the early days of MTV (when they pretty much ONLY played music videos) this was the primary form of entertainment for kids who were too young to drive. We'd watch music videos from the time we got home from school until bedtime. And we'd spend our allowances at the mall record stores buying physical records/tapes from the artists on weekends. Music videos were like a constant stream of advertising consumed by a voluntarily captive audience. It was worth it from them to really go all out. And music videos were wild for a bit.
