i dont know anyone who hasnt cried listening to this song .. wether young or old. i remember in 1996 live concert where i saw michael live for the first time and this song came up. the whole stadium packed with over 60,000 people. it was night time already. and almost everybody took out some lights and / or candles ... i was in the front row because we camped 24h before the concert to get to front row. when the song came up i turned around and saw the whole stadium lid up by the people's lights. there was an old man standing next to me. he mustve been around 60. and he was crying ... i am 45 now. i met a 20 years old girl recently and we talked about this song and she said she cried seeing the video ... thats how BIG MJ is ... his music has no time, no color, no race .. his music is like the breath of heavens ... the essesence of GOD

As a child this song and music video moved me to my core. I distinctly remember getting chills at the moment when the dead man opens his eyes on the beat. Still makes me emotional to this day. God bless MJ's soul. RIP
Hi Julie! I am so stumped that I never heard this. Maybe I did and just don't remember, I know I never saw the video. As embarassing as it is, my recall for many things has dwindled and there's so much I have forgotten...The upside is that I get to experience it all as new (again) LOL! Cheers!

The war scene is not some recreation in a studio, Michael went to Karlovac, Croatia and shoot on a real war location just when the war in my country was ending. those ruins are real.
This song is so powerful and so important for us, but sadly we are not paying attention to what is happening. Just getting a piece of this video, he did show war tank, soldiers, that was a reference for a war that was going on in the 90’s when he wrote this song, but now, 2022 we have another war, it was like we are doing the same stupid mistakes over and over again, endless. Then we have his final words in this masterpiece: “Do we even give a damn?” Sadly we know the answer 😞
I think it is a reference to Jesus God’s only son and humans destroying the planet with hate and greed. Michael was so ahead of everyone. Very relevant even today.
The ending was spiritual. Only YAH(God) can heal the planet, and raise the dead. Oh, and he will, after he deals with those who harmed it to begin with.

But it charted as No.1 all over Europe in 1996 where it was released as a single. Six weeks at No.1 spot in the UK charts during Christmas in 1996. This must be one of the most outrages and strange moves from Sony Music to not let this single be released in America.
"Earth Song" is, for me, who am a big fan of Michael Jackson, undoubtedly the best song and the best video clip he ever did... It's all there! The destruction of our planet by pollution, of our lives and the world by war, the destruction of indigenous worlds, of diversity, of world hunger... We start with a green and beautiful place, full of life, by very beautiful and harmonious little notes, by Michael's saddened voice, then comes the musical accompaniments, soft and calm at first, then the drums sound, adding a marked and strong rhythm and intensity, then the singing of Michael Jackson transforms into a scream, we see a dolphin caught in a net, at another moment we see a human hit a sea lion and right after, Michael Jackson, and we see continuity between the hit the sea lion takes and the movement of Michael Jackson's body, as if the blow that the sea lion took, it was Michael who received it, then the song goes up an octave, and gains even more intensity, I still wonder how he is able to sing on such a broad vocal spectrum, it remains a complete mystery on this point in particular...
