Michael Jai White and Kimbo Slice talking more about the ways to punch. I have many more never viewed video's. Michael Jai White's movie “The outlaw Johnny Black” is available on Apple TV , RU-vid , Vudu , and Amazon Prime Video
Michael Jai White is using indiegogo to raise the money, to make the film "The Outlaw Johnny Black" go to theoutlawjohnnyblack.com help him , because if you ever want to see "Blood and Bone 2" and "Black Dynamite 2", this is the only way it will happen. That is with your support.
Michael Jai--like I said before--is a genuinely skilled martial artist of superlative physical skill, deep spiritual harmony, keen of mind, thoroughly seasoned by training with many martial arts legends, and is a truly humble human being. He is a credit to the martial arts and role model to us all.
I'm texas state kickboxing champion of 2007.. snd I still cross train in various martial art techniques. Mr. White is right by all means.. respect the man
R.I.heaven kimbo. . its crazy how just the day before your passing I was with my freind at work watching all your videos. I was telling him how back when you just came out I use to watch all of tour videos with my best friend too. . . he passed away just last summer but your videos brought our friendship together cause we did lots of training thanks kimbo
AAAAAAAAANNNND that's why MJW couldn't be in UFC he learns and pays attention to EVERYONE'S style. He learns how you strike and is able to adjust to compensate for it.
I agree the guys got raw power but he gasses out & like you said his ground game isn't too great he only use whatever ground game he has to get off the foor hes not offensive down there. these are all the key ingredients to make him a more complete fighter
A like how a true martial artist in Michael Jai White can show respect for a guy like Chuck Liddell's style as a mixed martial arts fighter. The fact is Chuck Liddell had one of the most unique styles ever in mma,his ability to use his footwork, angles, and measure guys up with his Karate. In my opinion Liddell had the best takedown defense ever in mma,and that has showed in the new era of the wrestler in mma. He was for sure ahead of his time in mma,and should be respected for what he did.
@ATACXGYM i would love to learn martial arts from this man. to me he is one of most respected actors/martial artists/ and person out there. Michael Jai White you're awesome!
Say what you want about Kimbo Slice but the man honestly loves learning. This is what seperates him from alot of other fighters he is willing to learn something new every day. He may not be really skilled on ground game but his stand up is one of the best. How ever his trainers are idiots if they think he'll be ready for a title fight after 6 months of boxing
@daaustin2 1.) Having a black belt does make you a fighter, having a black belt means you're capable of teaching/instructing another fighter with your technique after you have mastered it. So not only does it make you a fighter, but a skilled one at that. 2.) He's trained with boxers, even in his case he knows what he's talking about.
Michael Jai White, clearly knows what he is talking about and I personally wouldn't want to mess with him, however it does not mean he would be a great fighter. I have taken martial arts for a number of years, its one thing to train and talk about fighting, its a totally a different thing to actually fight and take a hit from a professional fighter, he is a good looking professional actor, but is he a fighter, can he take a punch? Well now that is a whole different ball game.
Like Bruce Lee tried to explain. The technique is in mind. Bernard Hopkins is my favorite fighter and that's why he will be the longest reigning Champion of all time.
I love how kimbo is willing to learn, he got into UFC with only knowing street fighting, although a little training session is goig to teach him whites 7 martial arts, its still cool he is willing to learn
he was a street fighter at like 14/15 y,o. Then he started teaching at like 16 y,o. He has like 7 black belts and a sick fighting body/physique (not skinny, not fat, not dehydrated) + he is an actor.
@asseertedwolf I don't know if anyone answered your question. MJW was explaining the proper technique for straight punches. To move forward instead of rolling your shoulder they way its taught in boxing and Muay Thai. So its not about damage but connect percentage. Better to be very accurate with both hands than pretty accurate with one (jab) and moderately accurate with the other (straight). By moving forward and punching straight you don't telegraph. You also get to your target quicker
What I find comical about this video is that it's very obvious the kimbo doesn't understand the illusion effect Mike is referring to. If you listen to kimbo's replies he's not getting it. He keeps talking about the power hit, and that secret punch, and my favorite line "I see what you're sayin". Yet he has no clue. That is what separates these fighters. One man smokes the purp and becomes enlightened, the other becomes paranoid. Wild stuff... for real.
Michael is an accomplished martial artist himself and surely knowledgeable as well as being abled to demostrate what he is talking about. What he say about telegraphing punches make pretty good sense, he threw a punch that was so fast but Kimbo could not see it coming. In a real fight that hand could easily been the opponent's face. Maybe that why George St. Pierre had so many shot aganist Kosh in their fight in UFC 125 I think. What can I say, I am a fan of both of these guys.
You're actually meant to watch the head and torso because anatomically, a human punch can be read through your head and torso. He even give an example of that in this video. In Boxing they tell you to watch the arms, which is why many martial arts experts believe it to be a flawed technique.
This statement is beyond true. If there was more money in MMA, you would see a lot more Martial Artist like Michael Jai White and Scott Adkins dominate the sport. Well said, Justs
The way he explained Bernard's punch is true. If you watch Pacquiao vs De La Hoya again Pac man was throwing those punches twice in a row and sliding to his right. It's a beautiful technique !
MJW - "Traditional martial arts was put together as a paramilitary entity. It’s one of those things where there should be people who can try their whole life and not be a black belt. Thirty-years ago, a black belt meant something. It was a right of passage like being in the Marines. You had to be a tough individual. Now, you can be a 12-year-old black belt. When it became a business, everything got watered down. Once pads and protective gear came into it, it all went downhill." He also does BJJ.
Truth, I actually trained in Judo my whole life. But I'm only just now in my mid 20's thinking about learning some boxing and MMA, only because I'm a little envious of the image, especially with the ever-growing popularity of the UFC. It's virtually impossible to not have high respect for the modern boxing world and martial arts in general. The problem with Judo is that they raise you this impression that 'There is only Judo'. When I feel it's just too important to expand your horizon.
Well, while that's helps me to understand why you said what you said it doesn't change the fact that boxing is still regarded by many martial artists as a flawed fighting style, by several reasons often mentioned, one most commonly being the "watching of the arms" bit. And It's interesting to know that boxing has changed which doesn't come to surprise because of advances in knowledge, books, sharing and especially with the eastern influence on western fighting. But yeah, interesting point sir.
I don't blame those that think boxing is flawed. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I personally also have that mindset with regards to most other martial arts. Generally the martial arts I respect are Muay Thai and Juijuitsu(especially the Brazilian variant). I have seen too many karate, kung fu etc. guys getting their asses handed to them by boxers. In a lot of these martial arts they train by dancing around and many have no chins. Boxers and Muay Thai guys actually fight when training.
Obviously hes an actor, MG is just saying that he is more than just an actor. He most likely been studying martial arts way before he even knew he wanted to be an actor, its probably even what led him to become an actor in the first place
@Tommiwiz he's talking about how Chuck Liddel keeps his back hand pointed at the opponent at the same height as their sight so the fighter he's fighting agaist don't see it coming. He also talks about another fighter who while punching move his body to the side but his hand go straight forward to the oppenents chin, got it??
and Mr. White is proficient in many traditional martial arts. If you apply the knowledge and practice properly, you will begin to see how effective TMA can be used.
0:37-0:38 is the first time I ever heard Michael Jai White use the word "Nigga's" in his vocabulary Lmao and I think he found that out too once he realized the last second of after he said it
I box now not in the 70s or something, so that may be an outdated 'method'. I'm actually inclined to believe they were oversimplifying it in order to engage the layman without going into the intricacies of technique. In boxing when you punch you use your body. With straights your arm is merely a delivery system, a whip if you will and there should be no flaring of the elbow, it should trace a straight path. If you find watching the arms is helping you then the guy is telegraphing.
@TheBrasilian09: I complete agree with you,my brutha.Well said and I hope you are able to work out with him one day! If so? Tell us how it went, will ya?
Like he said in the video...you watch the shoulders. I was a boxer. You also watch the feet...and the torso...even the eyes...I've NEVER heard of watching the arms. I don't know where that came from. I've seen guys who were proficient in Jailhouse Rock..(or something they call 52 Blocks WUP a boxer...and WUP a black belt in karate). You can look up 52 blocks on RU-vid here.
Jay Bee>>> MJW has 26 world titles and 7 Kyokushin black belts. A Kyokushin black belt is one of the most dangerous stand-up fighters in the world, and will have fought in many full contact bare-knuckle competitions to earn his belt. Kimbo Slice is nothing but a backstreet brawler with no style whatsoever. It just goes to show, when he fought the professionals in UFC he did not last very long.
many martial artists that become actors are the real deal. such as the legend, bruce lee, Steven seagal, Michael jai white, tony jaa, Donny yen, Jackie chan, let li and even chuck Norris( you don't become the undefeated world karate champion 8 years in a row for nothing.
Depends on the day and time, what they had for breakfeast... :b They seems pretty close up. As you know, even skilled fighters can get rocked with a minor shift in circumstances
@daaustin2 3.) Even he knows what punches are strong and what aren't. I was a boxer and Shotokan karate practice, everyone knows that straight punches do not pack power, as they aren't the same as power punches. Their objective is to stagger the opponent while maintaining stamina, and keep up speed, not to knock someone out. Then again, in his case he probably knows fast punches that can knockout someone, too. You have a right to an opinion, but don't use it in substitution of fact either.
@Oniaxus I was told by someone credible to visually focus in the midsection, that the hip movement combined with your peripheral vision of whatever else should indicate a strike is coming.
Actually, we have some things in common here. I am also in my 20's, I started with a grappling background specifically wrestling. I now compete as a boxer. Boxing is a good choice. The people who say it's flawed have no idea what they are talking about. If you want to be good with striking with your hands box. If you want to be OK with you hands and great with kicks do Muay Thai. Every other form of kicking and hands is irrelevant. contd...
There are always people who workout in gyms, halls, dojos, who can take out the MMA guys because they aren't handicapped by those rules. It doesn't mean an MMA fighter would prescribe to rules while on the street. vanlore is obviously not well educated as it is common knowledge that Michael Jai White has trained fighters and held numerous titles to his name and isn't just an actor.
