Just starting boxing and feeling like my jabs were all wonky and not fluid at all. This was incredibly helpful. Respect Mike! Thank you for putting this info out there.
Well don’t take advice from this guy He a movie star not a real fighter lol He might take a few classes and light spar in the gym but he definitely doesn’t know how to throw a punch He throws arm punches and hits like a girl If you throw punches like this guy throw for speed to set up a hard shot To punch hard you got to drop your weight and it’s a way you brace your hips and legs that lets your drop your weight onto your opponent while you are punching This guy a weenie just flexing his arm wit his shirt off lol First thing I look for is how they set there lower body when ever I see any punching tutorial You got to brace you hips and legs in a way that lets you drop your weight with you punches… while still being on your toes… in boxing you got to be able to fight off your toes… so you will be able to quickly react to what ever your opponent may come back with… You only focus on your arms they way he overly does it to make sure the position you are in when you punch But unlike this moron who really is just a tv character and not a fighter You supposed to focus on built in defense Instead of flexing your scapula to arm punch better like this moron You have to make sure the arm you punc with is blocking your chin and the other free hand is guarding the other side of your face and elbows in to protect against any return fire The way this tv star wannabe fighter over analyzes his arm for punching offensively is a dead give away he just a poser If anything you do that for defense If you want to focus on offense when punching then the power comes from how you brace your hips and legs to drop your weight If you choose to hit like a girl and arm punch like this fake wannabe poser do it for speed to disguise you setting weight for the big punch
It is a bit long, but it's worth reading. He was betrayed by his disciple. He was left alone by all his disciples. He was killed for others mistake. He was killed though he was innocent. His own brothers didn't believe in him. His mother had to watch him die. Everyone knew he was innocent but still they killed him. He is to be treated like Kings but he chose to serve us. He still forgave the people who crucified and mocked him and he said Father forgive them for they not know what they are doing. What has more greater love than this?. All for our sake. The man Jesus Christ. He showed us true Love. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. But There's a happy news. He rose up again after three days just as he told. There is no greater blessing than having God as our Father. He's coming back soon. Let's all repent and turn from our old ways and prepare our hearts for him. This is the prophecy about the second coming of Jesus Zechariah 13:7 “Awake, sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is close to me!” declares the LORD Almighty. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered, and I will turn my hand against the little ones. The Shepherd here is Jesus. John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. This is the fulfillment of the prophecy. Matthew 26:31 Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: “’I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ This happened near 30 AD. Hosea 6:1-2 Come, let us return to the LORD. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds. After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence. In prophecies 1day is equal to 1000 years. Which means after two thousand years Jesus will return again. And on the third day which is the 3rd millennium, we will live in his sight. We all know we cannot see God's face and live on Earth. So it's the second coming of Jesus. Luke 21:11 ► There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. Matthew 24:6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. We are the witnesses of all these things. From the death of Jesus to 2030 there are 2000 years. Jesus is coming soon. Let's all repent and turn from our old ways and turn to the Lord. Praise the Lord. Peace and Love to you all Easter is pagan, the resurrection day of the Lord is correct and please stop taking the Lord's name in vain like saying omg or using it with a bad word or taking it in anyway that is in vain. Even the devil trembles in his name and we shouldn't use the powerful name like that. For the people who says Jesus is not God here's a verse. Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. God bless you all. Please spread this message to the ends of the world. .
This guy could easily have played Blade, War Machine, Black Panther, Blue Marvel, Icon and had a Spawn Trilogy.. Hollywood severely underutilized him..
Jeremy Thompson we really comparing shaq to Jay now? Shaq is a loveable big fool and great athlete, but jay is on another level. Besides/we saw him in spawn. I didn‘t needed more. They made him as spawn should be. Guess Hollywood isn‘t Interessed in making movies according to comics-or should we say fuckin disney
I am 43 and have done multiple martial arts throughout my life. I am also a US Army Veteran. This is a great video and I am going to share it with my kids. For some reason if they watch in on RU-vid they listen better than me trying to teach them. thank you and I hope that you have a great one.
@@dinara1389 It's an implication that this is information not shared in military training and that if it was added to a military training regiment it would make our military even more affective and disciplined. It also lends some credence to my opinion on the presumed basis that as a Veteran I have some cerfiable formal training and am not just a keyboard commando.
I love how you speak with so much care and wisdom for the listener to absorb the right kind of knowledge. Your words remind me of how my grandfather used to advise me, to preserve longevity and always remember to be patient as a beginner. Thank you Michael Jai White.
This man motivates me. I lost my Uncle, my big brother, and my Grandma all in a 1 year span. This man really inspires me to NOT QUIT. Thank you Mr. White.
I’ve always punched pretty naturally well because I came up playing baseball. My dad always told my punch through the ball with your top hand. It’s almost, mechanical speaking, exactly like throwing a straight right. It’s all in the core and having active hips. Pretty cool to see it explained so well!
Been watching your work for years. Ever since Blood and Bone. Your passion for the art of movement and the nature of the physical body when mixed with martial arts is astounding. Please continue your effort, it is truly inspring.
@@jsherpa25 What I like most about this man is he is super famous yet he is so humble . He share his experience and teach for free yet people dislike his videos . I really don't understand how can some people hate this guy and dislike his content .
Thank you so much Michael, you’re one of my inspirations for being a better martial artist, fighter, and person who spreads balance and positivity to all those I come into contact with🙏🏾
Bumped into Michael at Macy's in Downtown Seattle once. I recognized him but I wasn't sure from where. I asked him if he might be a classmate at UW where I was at the time. He said no and told me he was an actor. We chatted about stuff for a bit and went back to shopping. Very down to Earth, generous with his time, good vibes. He's the real deal.
Mr. Jai, you're the man. The amount of sheer respect I had for your work throughout the years is unmeasurable, and being able to watch these older videos now, feels like one-on-one seminars to me 👌
I totally agree. Not having watched any movie with him, I expected "buff dude sells useless crap for views", but ended up watching the whole thing. I simply love, when a teacher doesn't tell - but explains. And people learn a lot better, if they understand the physics in fx fly casting, and of corse "everything" else.
6:54 love this! We actually train keeping our face relaxed while sparring, or competing. It’s amazing how, when your face is tight, your body is tight. Tight muscles burn a lot of oxygen. Tight muscles are also slow.
I’m 50 yrs old been boxing for a long time , guys listen this man knows his stuff best explanation in my 50yrs ! Especially if you are just staring out ! Excellent don’t run into this guy in a dark alley .
Tbh i'm scared to punch with full force, i have a fear that my arm will come out the socket. At the moment my body can't handle the full brunt of the force from a full power punch so i started strength and endurance training. I can somewhat output more force than usual so that's a good thing
Thank you! I’m so glad I found this. I’m practicing kickboxing to stay fit and have come to really love it. Your articulation and demonstration are so clear and concise. Better form, less injury and more power… thank you!!!
You took time out of your busy schedule and life to impart some of your hard earned wisdom to us, for free, and for this I am grateful. Thank you so much for this, I am about to start my heavy bag training and will use what I've learned from you. Thank you Michael!
Same. It helps so much more than some people can understand. From making an oponent blink so you can throw a more powerful straight right/left or to get your oponent to put their guard up exposing their body. It's surprisingly useful and effective
Great idea about the loop for practice, a fully extended locked arm is rock solid. I like to step forward when I punch which I learned from some basic karate training. I'm not sure if this hinders my punch as I am not as rooted to the ground as much. Although I do try to plant my moving foot inline with the target (like a karate forward punch called OI ZUKI) but without rotating my elbow. That being said I know by doing this that I am adding extra speed to my punch, because if my punch is 10mph and my step in is 6mph I will now end up with a 16mph punch. You can also focus on the speed of your arms throw, and exhaling during the punch. This is why you hear martial artists make that ESH! sound when they punch. This clenches the muscles in your gut and makes it easier to get your body weight into a punch. Then most importantly is the accuracy, there's no point hitting hard if you are going to miss the target!
@@sirspongadoodle no concrete proof he wasnt bad at fightn either, call me a dumbass but youre over here h8ing on somebody that aint alive no more. How you say its the truth, you met him bfore and he told you, everyone he inspired are out here kickn ass while you are btchn and moaning. Get Real.
MJW’s technical consistency is beyond 99% of the martial artist I have ever seen. Proper mechanics and form are everything. I have trained TKD, and some boxing, for most of my adult life. His focus on how the human body transfers energy is exactly what makes TMAs beautiful, efficient, and effective.
This video taught me 2 of the best fists I ever made without a glove! Without benefit of so much as a YMCA teaching legit martial arts in my area, I've had to find my own coping mechanisms to prevent wrist injury during full-bore workouts and they have consistently proven less than 80% effective. Both of the fist stabilizations in this video are 100% every time across a dozen full-force punches at my training bag -- it's difficult to even turn my wrist deliberately once the clench is in place. Thank you, Mr. White!
This is great stuff. Please remember for those starting out that your bone density in your wrists and arms is low. It takes a few months to get it high enough to hit really hard. You naturally get it from striking for ages when you are starting out. I returned after a year and my wrists and arms couldn't take the impact that my technique could generate.
This is going to be great. Coming from a man that has walked this earth 40 years scared of every one, and not understanding your strength and size. Looking forward to calmly telling someone who decides to tell me I can’t sleep in a certain bunk. “You have 3 seconds to get help because that’s not how you speak to another grown man. Sir. The officer don’t even tell me where to sleep. So sounds like you want to be dorm cop. 3. When done. Thanks for the bed.
I started boxing/kick-boxing a couple months ago and this is a lot of new information. I will come back to this in the future to keep my technique in check, thanks a lot, MJW.
You can tell that the authenticity of MJW's commitment to Martial Arts has forged a silent force within him that comforts all who become the center of his attention. Humble and non-assuming, flexible yet solid, caring and respectful. The attributes of someone who uses his art to help others and protect those who can't protect themselves. A class act. I've always liked him primarily as a human first and secondly a creative source. He shares what he has as though you were family and you get the feeling that it's intentional as a important part of teaching and because he probably treats everyone with respect as part of his personal mantra. Thanks Brother Michael.
This is a fantastic video, this is exactly what my son has been taught and he was a little nerd before taking up boxing now his a beast. One punch at a time like an arrow in and out. 🥊
I cannot thank you enough for this instruction. I remember, years ago, hitting a heavy bag, thought I was getting good, and I sprained my wrist so bad it hurt for months. I'm a new fan Mr. White, thanks again.
Listen sucka, he's not White, he's blacker than the Ace of Spades and more militant than you and your whole damn army put together, while you're out there chanting at rallies and browbeaten politicians, he's taking out any money front sucka on a humble that gets in his way. So I tell you what, when your so called revolution starts, you call him and he'll be right down front showing you how it's done, but until then you need to shut the fuck up when grown folks is talking. It's from Black Dynamite, I'm just memeing
One of my best friends growing up . Had a piece of a tire mounted on a pole . To build up his hands as well . I've also seen five gallon bucket filled with sand . And drive the fingers into the sand .fingertips first . As well .. Much Respect!
The reason why I like Michael Jai White martial arts movies is simply because in quite a few of his movies, he's teaching fans his form of martial arts. I remembered watching the Bruce Lee movie Game of Death. HIs vision of that movie was to teach fans his form of martial arts. It was so unfortunate of him passing at such a young age. The three scenes Bruce Lee was in late in the movie demonstrated his amazing martial arts skills.
@@lukakallu Yes because obviously steroids for a long period if time keeps you young and healthy, fucking ignorant fool. Keep your ignorant opinions to yourself.
Thank you! I was aware of most of these mechanics, but your video gave me a better understanding of them, plus showed me other mechanics I wasn't aware of.
For all of you born this millenium: He WAS Spawn. THE Spawn. With Theresa Randle, opposite John Leguizamo and Martin Sheen. And he WAS Jax. Mortal Kombat: Rebirth. It's on RU-vid. It made Mortal Kombat: Legacy possible. That's on Netflix. He's Black Dynamite AND Bronze Tiger. He's Mike Tyson. Man has been doing this a long time, and never gets enough credit. Would love to see him grace the Expendables franchise, perhaps. He has a working relationship with several of the other actors.
Wait...MJW is Jax from MK? I watched that while I was pretty young and I didnt recognise. The first time I saw and recognized him was Super UniSol and the Spawn movie.
I'll be watching every one of these videos. I love it when people bring technique to the fundamentals. Like Bruce Lee said about practicing one kick 1000 time vs learning 1000 different kicks. I want to drill the basics ten thousand times and become the best at the fundamentals.
Good stuff! Thank you! I’ve always been a straight puncher but the mechanics you describe make Soo much sense and I could see I was still doing things wrong.
Interesting that everything that you explained I found out through my study/training of first boxing and later Shotokan for 26 years... (and being allways amongst the best ones in the shotput) I have high respect for your capabilities...
Funkyfreaks27 YT Hollywood has. It is ridiculous that we have not seen him in more mainstream movies. I feel like we are being cheated out of more spectacular action films because we don’t have a real martial artist and actor like MJW on more of those films.
i just found this video while trying to find the basics of boxing or martial arts jabs and i have to say man youre a great and a good teacher, thanks you just got a new subscriber 🙏
Thank you for this very informative and practical video. Ive never heard anyone else explain the proper way to make a fist before, even though it seems like the most obvious thing to teach for self defense. Much respect.
I literally watched all of you vids Michael jai white just to get better with my fighting style an I wasn’t kicking at first when I got into fights but now imma start using my whole body
I wanted to do minimum effort with maximum result, so rather than leave a like a ruin your 69 likes, I figured I’d write to say...I laughed at this comment!
JAis great noone needs to compare to anyone and claim whose better than who. JAis his own legend hes a great martial artist and looks like a very good man too i like jai.. listen the hate he got about bruce lee, listen if you ask bruce lee and put him on the spot, if he was being chinese hell be humble and kinda find a way to not upset the playing field, but if you put him on the spot im sure hed say he could be jai too... and JAi made valid points,,, because Bruce Lee was exceptional wihtout a doubt. but he did say and quoted "if i was 6"2 and 220lbs id rule the world" SO that tells you Bruce was aware of his size but he knew he was good and could find a way to beat anyone,, but reality is JAi has a huge size advantage and depending on how the fight went down, JAi as good as he is could beat Bruce... people say stories are fake ect, but these are world champions wiht EGos that claim Bruce was the best and a step a head. they swallowed their pride in saying that the great joe lewis envied bruce and talked alot of crap, only to later in life before he died and achieved alot himself, admit alot fo things... so bruce always knew, because there are alot bigger people, he could get hurt if he got hit, but bruce was far from stupid and a total genius lol.. but both guys are great and both guys hold themselves well are good characters... jai is his own legend, i think they wouldve been great friends, bruce wouldve loved jai, and learnt alot from jai aswell. i say this on behalf of Bruce lee fans haters, or Chinese people or whatever, bruce also quoted, "under the heavens we are all but one family" give some respect to JAi we are living in the last era or great martial artists that dedicate their life to traditnal martial arts, and have good character and teach people and guide people.. JAis a SIFU , he should be remember as a SIFU amognst the greatest of martial arts legend and not compared... I bring up BRuce hoepfully not to open wounds, but make people aware JAI and Bruce are both legit great martial artists, shouldnt compare but rather admire what they dedicated their lives too and maybe we can learn from the both of them..
@@Tank1 huge size does not guarantee victory, decent dmg + speed (for dodging and striking a few punches over time, which is Floyd may weather's tactic) is a way surer way to victory if this dude isn't fast enough to hit Bruce then he won't even be able to dmg him much
@@M.I.D.ORIGINAL youre just saying things we already know. Im a huge bruce lee fan size matters alot less in real fights than sport compitition fighting but it still matters, i think the idea size and weight is light heaviweight size in mma terms. 205lbs-220. 5"10 - 6"2 any smaller is disadvantage and any bigger same in my opinion im talking in general. Bruce lee is incredible i still havent seen anyone in this era or before that intercepts like he does. His timing speed and precision is rediculous.. Even Jai i dojt believe he has that ability to intercept.. To counter maybe,, but that zen like psychic ability ive not seen in anyone.. But still bruce was 5"7 and 140lbs.. Hed murder any average guy regardless of size. But Jai is legit.. I dont see the zen like precision in Jai, but hes got great technique. But you really nees to see Jai do a free spar like what bruce done.. No choreographed crap just allow someone free attack and see how good his timing distancing ect is, cause technique means nothing if you dont have them.
The thumb motion is new knowledge, tried it and it made a huge difference. I train martial arts for 15 years already and yet this is new stuff. Heck you just earned a subscriber sir.
I trained a few mates on basic boxing skills and the biggest issue they all seemed to have was trying too hard. Just relax whilst you learn. The power just comes naturally as technique improves. Great video, grew up boxing but never seen the hanger before and love the idea behind it. And easy for anyone to set up and practice on 🤟
I haven't practiced martial arts for years now. 20+ years I'm sure. It is great to see an explanation that justifies the mechanics of the way we were taught to punch, and further expands upon it.
Love this dude. He's a real fighter a real teacher and the real deal. He's very underrated in my opinion. Through watching these tutorials I can clean up my technique and reach my maximum potential. We all can. I got a family to protect so I wanna be a great fighter and shooter. In fact I wanna be one of the world's most peaceful but dangerous guys out there. Only for protection purposes tho. I'm no trouble maker.
cian gavin it’s funny every time i see people on the internet with dumbass opinions like this they never know how to properly formulate a sentence, get educated before spreading your stupid opinion on the internet
Not quite. Stewart is a professional ARCHITECT and is rather slender, skinny and actually very mellow. This guy is like a giant in comparison, plus: mjw's whole characterization is usually bad tough guy, so quite the opposite of an Architect. The only thing in common is he's black. The actual GL is usually bigger than john Stewart btw and the real GL isn't even that big.
threeaklok : dude if you told MJW he was not big he'd correct you sternly. He's extremely proud of his large mass, he worked hard to get his size. You are blind if you don't think he's big lol, he literally played MIKE TYSON!! On top of that, he doesn't fit the character of an Architect, he fits someone military, bouncer, boxer, etc Completely wrong casting idea
Yh I remember him in Dark Knight, I've never seen spawn though. He would've have made an awesome blade too but I think Wesley was unbeatable in portraying Blades temperament- plus he rocks shades better imo.😂 I still love MJW though and his movies.👌🏾
