But now they’re saying Jordan’s DPOY award was due to inflation when he again recorded 100+ blocks and 200+ steals for the season now becoming the only one to do it twice. He didn’t win with the stats he had in ‘87, repeated similar output in ‘88 wins the DPOY, however, now we’re questioning the legitimacy of his DPOY award

He also decided not to watch away games and confirm those numbers were accurate and Jordan's numbers weren't lowballed. The article mentions that this was normal for home team stat keepers league wide up until a few years ago so why wouldn't that same bias work against away opponents? Maybe it's both true that home teams inflated stats and away teams had their stats lowered on the road. If you're going to try and invalidate one players entire season you should provide a unbiased look at all 82 games with each example of that stat and confirming your criteria for or against that stat happening.

Also, LeBron almost certainly wins vs. the Warriors in 2015 if it wasn't for injuries to Love and Kyrie. When you really look at, LeBron's 4-6 is every bit as impressive as Jordan's 6-0.

If he's so confident in what he saw on those tapes, why not publish them online alongside his article? Instead, we are expected to simply take his word on what he observed in those 5 games? Here's the kicker...even if he DID post the footage of those 5 games online, and his findings relating to those 5 games were verified, his allegation would still be worthless because THIRTY FIVE other home games were played in Chicago Stadium that DPOY season and none of those 35 games have been analysed. That means that 86% of Jordan's home games from that season were excluded from Haberstroh's report! Since when has ANY investigation been considered credible if 86% of the relevant data has been omitted from analysis! He also claims that Jordan's steals/blocks in his DPOY season are an 'anomaly', God-like', heavily inflated in comparison to any of his other seasons...that is completely untrue because his defensive stats in the previous 1986/87 season were ALMOST IDENTICAL to his DPOY stats! Discrediting Jordan's DPOY is clearly important to Haberstroh but that would require 2 courses of action... 1) A full analysis of the stats and film from EVERY SINGLE Bulls home game in that 1987/88 season would need to be completed, all FORTY ONE games, not just SIX. Every single block and steal would need to be analysed on film and then compared to the official box score for each of the 41 games. That full 41 game analysis, along with a video link to each of the 41 games, would then need to be made public for impartial verification. 2) The very same analysis would need to be carried out for each of the other DPOY candidates from that 1987/88 season. Targeting only one DPOY candidate, analysing just 6 of his 41 home games, pointing to discrepancies between home and away games as an incriminating factor whilst applying ZERO context, and referencing unsubstantiated claims made by one Statkeeper (who never worked for the Bulls) isn't going to cut it. Ps. The 1 game that he analysed that is available online has already been reviewed several times in the last 2 days, the box score matched the film, no evidence of stat inflation.

They looked at a 6 game sample in full from Jordan’s Defensive player of the year season. They found this massive boosting of his steals and blocks stats at home games. More investigation has to be done to watch all his games in a season that year to get a clearer picture. But based off this sample it is highly likely more than these 6 have juiced stats.

You can actually find these all on a website if you want me to give it to you but you are absolutely correct since ⁠several people came out and debunked this article because not only had Tom picked the 6 most egregious and obvious games of inflation across 4+ months, but the inflation only affected his steals totals. Sure he didn’t average over 4 steals per game, but he certainly averaged over 2.3 over this 6 game stretch. On top of accurately averaging close to 3 blocks per game as a GUARD. Easily making him the best shotblocking guard of all time. Which keep in mind, he was putting up these extremely impressive defensive stats while averaging over 30 points per game. He rightfully deserved this award.
