@@spitshinetommy3721 just imagine in 1997 still a physical league compared to the NBA today which is extremely fragile and soft? Remember Michael Jordan set records from 1984 to 1998 through the physically toughest era of the NBA. That's why its comical to think what Jordan would do to todays NBA with no hand checking or forearms on offensive players. 45+ppg would be Jordans average in todays NBA. It's really hard to believe that a player was just so much better then a player today like Lebron James, but Michael Jordan was. The proof is in the pudding with 10 Scoring titles, highest ppg average in the regular season and playoffs, 6 finals mvps, Defensive Player of the year, averaged 37.1ppg an entire 1987 season which was the most physical era of the NBA, 5 mvps, 6-0 in the finals, more 30/40/50 point games then Lebron James. This list goes on and on in Jordans favor! Keep watching The Last Dance documentary hopefully you can learn about the true GOAT Michael Jeffrey Jordan!
@ 7:13... Check out Steve Kerr's reaction after the MJ bucket. I will never forget this shot. Simply incredible! You know what else is incredible? So many of Jordan's made field goals are nothing but net. He was the best ever!
The amount of nuttin' but net is also related to the technology. They changed the ball quality years ago, it was in 2008 or 2010. The ball is slightly lighter than back then.

He was on his ass and sliding when his shot went in.
I was in High school watching this poerty in motion. I tell my kids this is the best of all time no let the new news fool u. The real goat retired for the final time in 2003
Well 22/50 Is not that bad overall. If my maths is right I believe that's 44%From the field. Which just happens to be his Career percentage anyways...And He had 4rbs 4ast 3stls. My point is he wasn't just being typical Kobe Jacking up Shots. He was actually getting guys involved and playing a Lil defense as well. And most importantly they Won the Game. Had they not won the game I would agree with you!
That's Kobe in his last game after 20 straight seasons playing the better conference, after coming back from catastrophic injuries toward the end. I recall Jordan, still in his prime, taking 49 shots against the Magic in '93 and scoring 64 in an OT loss. Statistical comparisons across years are a waste of time in for this sport.
DOWN SOUTH u hillbilly inbred down south dk head. He was 40 years old can still avg 20 points. Scored 40 against Nets which was the east conference champion.
DOWN SOUTH yes at 40 it’s called challenging yourself and taking on the best something bron knows nothing about ,Jordan is the best ever it’s not even close so to bring up Washington where he berated 20plus a game shows your low IQ in basketball
One of the games I'll never forget. My second year of watching basketball being an 11-year-old kid and watching Michael Jordan I was in awe. When he retired, I cried because he was the only reason I watched basketball. He did it with such ease and had a killer instinct and was she really a pleasure to watch (same as Kobe Bryant)
Green eyed Monster Me too man I'll never forget that day in 99 when he retired I was 10 years old I cried like I lost my best friend cause at the time if you'd have told me in 97-98 that'd be my last time watching them I'd said you was bullshitting! And I didn't become a Kobe fan until MJ retired from Chicago!
MJ was amazing. I honestly was inspired by him. 20 freakin years later and i only compare this man to himself which mj was better the guy that played against lakers portland phoenix sonics or jazz. even then its hard he was so great that all are so special. my personal favorite was the jazz last series cause i knew it was last time i see him in the finals and after all the years he mustered up all he had and won it! Mj love you forever!
i know Im asking the wrong place but does someone know a way to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my account password. I appreciate any help you can give me
That NBA ON NBC tune though... hahah I love it. Man, I spent 6 weeks in the hospital as a kid, and I remember being wide awake at night watching any games that were on. And I used to look forward to watching any games I could, even on school nights. I feel so lucky to have grown up with this era of basketball and MJ. I was old enough to appreciate and understand all of his championships.
RetroCNY Me too man I'll be 30 next week although I can remember seeing his first two at a very early age but the first ring I really got an understanding of was the 93 one when I was 5. Being born in 88 I'm blessed to have grown up in the Jordan era and the Shaq and Kobe era and I agree with you man it don't get no better than NBA on NBC! They need to bring it back!!!!!!!
How can I express what I feel? The fadeaway is the most difficult shot and did you see the number of fadeaways/toughshots the guy takes... like it's nothing...and he was 34 years old...not even in his prime anymore !!! He does it so easily and so smoothly !! In a playoffs game...! Shame on anybody who tries to disrespect not only basketball but MJ comparing him to LJ...that's crazy ! And none of those tough shots(besides the last one) surprise the announcers ! Another day at the office for MJ...
He scores 55 and the rest of the team scores 54. The bullets did the best thing to try not to double team him and just let one man beat them. That would have normally worked but, with MJ can erupt for 60 if needed. If they had double teamed Jordan then the rest of the team would have scored another 20 points and the end score would have been 120 - 105. This was the best coaching decision on the bullets coaching. WOW!
Calbert Cheney was one of the best Big Ten players I’ve ever seen as a kid. I believe still the all team leading Big Ten scorer. He was a good defender too. And Jordan just steam rolls him. 😂
"The bullets are a fabulous team. They're a team of the future" -MJ. Wow was he hinting at something here. He was selling them way before he became owner
Dude, he was saying that because they had Rod Strickland, Chris Webber and co. on the team which could’ve been a good core for a future contender if they’d acquired a few other players. None of those guys were there in a few years.
This was after he went into the Wizards/Bullets locker room and said "who gonna check me today?" Do you know how cold and savage you have to be to do that, AND drop a double nickel(55 points) in a playoff game!? That's some real G.O.A.T. ish right here!!!!!
Same here. Saw this game live, was really exciting. I watch it now and am baffled by how easily he scored 55 points. Lot of one on one coverage, no help defense and he spammed that 13 foot fade away in the paint.
So true, just watched the video..he saw the double team coming on left and stopped then went left using Howard as a screen ..haha..he was unmatchable..especially in games like this
Playing MJ with single coverage is just begging for 50 points. But also Calbert Cheaney even managing avoid bumping into Howard at 8:15 is impressive. He was a solid defender for sure.
Just look at the spacing and how clogged the lane was back then bec there wasnt a lot of 3pt shooting threat. This is one of the reasons why people believe that MJ can average 40 ppg today. He's a midrange god and very crafty within the perimeter. If the lane is open he would love to attack it and wont care if he gets fouled bec. he's a very good FT shooter.
He may have highest point of all times if he did not retire to recharge himself. He is already in top 5 scorer despite playing less games than the rest.
Just a regular, degular double nickel in the playoffs. I watched this live thinking, "Washington really can't play much better than this...and MJ is just swatting them away like a gnat". He was demoralizing to compete against...and that's the ultimate advantage I give him over Kobe and LeBron. He didn't just beat you, he took your will. Washington played their asses off in Game 3, but they played like a team HOPING to win a game vs a team that knew they would.
WHAT AN ASTONISHING QUOTE BY REINSDORF! "I CAN AFFORD 30 MILLION DOLLARS"! JUST INCREDIBLE! THERE ARE RICH PEOPLE - AND THEN THERE ARE PEOPLE LIKE HIM!
This was one of the only times the "Bullets" ever appeared on NBC, I think they were only on maybe one other time besides this game. They didn't appear much as the Wizards either until the final NBC year, when MJ played for them, when they were on several times.
The Bullets' Head Coach had his team in an "upset mindset." Fortunately MJ recognized it and with assistance by Kerr (Game 1) and Pippen (Game 3) had just enough to sweep them.
Easily, but probably only for a few games. Then he would retire from basketball, because he would get bored with today's NBA. No real challenge for him. It's so good to watch these old videos, very exciting skills there.
The guy averaged 6 assists a game - hell, he averaged over 10 a game in the 1991 FINALS. Seriously people, Jordan was an AMAZING passer and didn't have a problem giving the ball up - Just ask Steve Kerr about his last second shot in the finals that Jordan assisted him on......
By today's standards, his game is outdated cuz he didn't take a lot of 3's. MJ took so many mid-range and long 2's, but he shot like 50%. Plus, he always got his shots within the team's offense and didn't miss his teammates when they had easy shots. His game had no flaws
+Arturo Luna It's sad if you're a grown-up and have no clue about how the game really works. There are more perimeter type players in the NBA today because of the rules and that's only part of the reason why teams take more 3 pointers than compared to other eras. The 3 second in the paint rule constantly forces your big men to move away from the rim so this gives the offense more chances to get into the lane unlike the old school NBA so that causes a lot of problems more than what most people see. It also indirectly increases more open opportunities for 3 point shooters because perimeter defenders are always forced to move away from the man they are tracking initially whenever someone on the offense is slashing and about to threaten the defense someone has to come over to make the attack change direction at least if not it's a clear path to the basket and chances are the rim protector will not react or move quick enough or be good enough to do much, hence today's NBA has more movement on defense even without good team offense and off the ball movement, just turn any NBA game on today and you will see how one rule can make it so hard for the defense. Back in the day perimeter players do not need to commit to leaving 3 point shooters open that often because their big men are allowed to camp the paint. And no matter how good a 3 point shooter is, they still miss more shots than they make that's why the defense will usually give up an open three point jump-shot before anything else. Most players today just want better stats so they can get a better contract, they put that before winning. Just look at a player like K.Bryant for an example. His points per possession during his best years was close to MJ's. And we all know he takes way more 3 pointers than Mike but not many people realize his accuracy is actually below the league's average for many years. This shows as long as you take enough 3s a game you can increase your points per possession and overall your points per game would go up a bit. Now think about it, are lesser talented players gonna try anything different when a player as talented as Kobe does this instead of putting the team's victory before his stats? What ignorant basketball fans fail to see is you cannot dominate and control a game of basketball by just taking 3 pointers. It is a 'weapon' you can use to increase scoring slightly if you or a teammate is in a good situation to take the shot then use it to give something for the defense to think about. MJ dominated so much because he made it very difficult for the the opponents not just because of his ability to put the ball in the hole but because he simply has such great control throughout the game because he understands the game is to make more basketball than your opponents and you can do that simply by making as many of your team's chances and by doing that you reduce the number of defensive rebound opportunities for their opponents which will also lead to lesser fast-break opportunities for your opponents. Teams need to get the ball at the touch line before they can start your offense after each time a player scores. So the team that does this the most will win easier not only because your team scores more points from the field but that team also has more time to get ready for defense. Another thing is you cannot get your opponent into foul trouble by shooting 3 pointers, and that's just another factor that made MJ such a controller of the game, not only does he dictate how the defense is gonna play him with his offensive capabilities, he also gets his opponents' into foul trouble by simply being unpredictable and unguardable constantly forcing help defense or rim protectors to commit unavoidable errors. If there was a stat that awards a player every time he draws a foul when his opponents are in foul trouble, MJ will be top 3 in per-game on NBA all-time level and probably number 1 for playoffs. Players today can try to play like MJ but they won't impact a game like how he did because they just don't have the tools and the mind.
Jun Hee Ho that's quite a lot of commentary, but yes, I agree essentially with all your points, the mid range game is becoming gravely underappreciated. coaches can use it indirectly to control pace, improve rebounding, improve transitions from O to D, and more. the game is way too heavy with pick and roll play/3's & layups today, but I have a feeling that won't last. that said though, what san antonio and GSW have been doing the last couple of years is a little more complex than just jacking up 3's. even within controlled half court sets they are prioritizing 3 point shot opps during significant stretches of games by using 'positionless basketball' where each player is essentially entrusted with the ability to make optimal decisions (instead of just the pg/sg), resulting in better ball movement and more 3's made more efficiently. because it's controlled offense, they usually transition well enough back on D. but yea, you're very right about your larger point in that MJ was always doing a lot of real time risk reward type analysis during games at a level few others could match.
He just would've done what he ALWAYS DID, MADE HIMSELF MORE EFFICIENT.. He said DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE AWAY frm his NORMAL GAME. HEY! LIKE WE DIDN'T C HIM HIT THEM in BUNCHES?
