Today's players can't be more skilled when 75% of the game has been eliminated due to analytics and the threepalooza. Mid range and post game are gone and most players don't know what to do on the court without the ball in their hand.

@@yaboiilamarr308 depends on how you define "really be ballin". Is it Lebron whose only move is to plow his way to the basket for a layup. Steph curry who shoots from half court. Maybe it's a guy who can barely jump over a broom stick who won the last 2 league MVPs. That can't be right though as he plays too much like 90s players and they were all terrible right? or maybe it's another guy who is averaging nearly a triple double for most of his career who didn't have anywhere near the same numbers in the european league who came out and said scoring was easier in the NBA.

MJ dominated the league. Won 3 rings took 2 years off and was still the best player in the league. 3 more rings with the oldest team in the NBA. Still no all stars while only being outscored once in the playoffs.

He was by far the best player in his era. Players evolve and competition gets harder, not discrediting MJ at all.

Players today aren't "more skilled." I think of it as you said, the skillset fit the rules of the time. If you transferred players of today to past eras, nearly every offensive scheme is a turnover. Literally every possession has travels, carries and illegal screens by former rule interpretations. There is so much freedom of movement because the game is offensively skewed that you can't compare offensive ratings because defenses are penalized. That isn't to say the players of today aren't talented. Clearly, they have immense talent, but their skills are also tailored to the current rules. Thus, assessing GOATs can only be made by comparing how a player dominated his peers. Comparing accolades makes sense because the awards are won on similar rulings. Comparing skillsets makes no sense because the rules change, and the styles of play evolve.

Well said, I just think in todays era it’s insane how far and consistent people are shooting.

@@WilboHoops Thanks, and agreed. Guys today shoot from range that would have caused players to be benched even 10 years ago. Overall, 3Pt% are up about 1-2% from any other era but on insanely higher volume. It's mind-blowing how Curry revolutionized something Nash could not. Anyway, good video and keep it up.

@@WilboHoopsbecause that’s all they do is shoot 3s😂 put them in the post n they are garbage or watch them run a a fast break it’s laughable. In 98 the 3 pt avg was 34.6.. in 2022 it was 35.4… so that’s all they focus on and they are less than a percent better? 😂 that’s not impressive. By 98 guys started to shoot 3s a little more but didn’t focus on it like today n were still just as good nearly.. that’s pathetic. Guys now yes are overall better jump shooters but as far as complete game I disagree. Look what joker does to this league in the post with a decent post game he fucking dominates and he has one of the lowest vertical in nba history . Larry bird as a rookie had a 28 inch vertical . That’s the league average today. And he was said to not be able to jump even then when he was young. Wich later in his career he could not jump for shit

@@cameronno6039u can’t be jacking 3s like that when they allow guys to be physical.. look what happened in game 7 in 2016. No one could score because they actually allowed defense. Like a few years ago they were letting guys play physical the first few weeks and all the numbers were way down n all the players like curry n young were crying

@@cameronno6039in 98 the avg 3pt was 34.6 percent in 2022 it was 35.4… that’s really not that impressive 😂 if guys then worked on that shot like they do now and the refs didn’t allow anyone to touch them n let them travel n jump backwards n carry u don’t think they would make less than a percentage point? 😂 god look at post games now it’s pathetic. Most bigger guys can’t post up point guards and score it’s pathetic

Even the 3pt% has not increased since the early 2000's. Players today are NOT more skilled or athletic. It's the rules that make it look that way.

I think talent has gotten better and skills have developed, but the rules definitely amplify things to make the players seem better than they are.

Hahaha ew heh ah haha, and I thought my jokes were bad…😏 In the 90’s era of NBA basketball, basketball was a contact sport, like football. No touch-fouls. No flagrant fouls for hitting a player too hard 🙄. No replay to see if the defender was playing the ball or intentionally fouling. They had to be strong physically and mentally. Remember the 1990 Eastern Conference Finals, Pistons vs. Bulls? Remember the Piston’s defensive strategy? It was so rough and hard-hitting that the 1989-1990 Piston’s defense earned its own name, “THE JORDAN RULES”. So, you know what Jordan, Pippin, and the rest of the Bulls did that offseason? They worked on their physical and mental strength, then in the 1990-1991 season’s Eastern Conference Finals, Jordan and the Bulls whipped the shit out of the Pistons in 4 game sweep. They didn’t bitch about fouls, cheap-shots, or dirty play. They made themselves, especially Scottie Pippin, because Jordan had already become physically and mentally strong enough to take the beating on the court from the Pistons. The entire team mentally stronger. They didn’t bitch and whine. They just got better. Today’s NBA, it’s a foul if you get in someone’s way of driving to the basket, even if you don’t touch them. Seriously, grow a pair. 90’s NBA involved hard contact. Today’s NBA, has less contact than European soccer.

So you’re admittedly showing the worst of defensive lowlights against Michael Jordan and comparing that to the “highlights” of today’s defense? Odd choice. Meanwhile, today’s kids’ wannabe GOAT gets most of his points uncontested, after committing at least one violation. 🤔

Here’s the thing with you Jordan Stans: why not go back before Jordan? Bill Russell won 11 rings, 20 years before Jordan’s era. Now if you bring this up the Jordan Stan will say ‘oh well the league evolved.’ So the league evolves from the bill Russell era to the Jordan era, but then magically stays the same forever? Get real.

@@Relisoc Here’s the thing with you LeFlop fluffers: you can only focus on one metric at a time in a weak attempt to demonstrate the point you’re trying to make at that moment while conveniently ignoring everything else. Sometimes it’s rings, sometimes it’s cumulative points, sometimes it’s this, sometimes it’s that. But it’s never winning-regular season games, much less championships-, PPG, turnovers, defensive performance, games played, cheating, resting on the court, offensive fouls, sacrificing the good of the team for the benefit of padding personal stats, etc. But yeah, Bill Russell has more rings than Jordan. 🙄 But you can never seem to see the utter domination and overall package that Jordan demonstrated basically every game. Yep, the league evolved from Russell’s time, but it has _devolved_ since the early aughts. What we see today are glorified middle-school kids in play-style, IQ, and attitude. And your boy is their leader.

@@RelisocRussel could well be the GOAT, but the footage is too hard to come by so I haven't watched his game enough. The one game I did find of him, Jerry West was clearly the best player on the court. I've watched enough of Jordan and LeBron to rate Jordan more highly than LeBron.

I think people confuse talent and skill. Players today aren’t any more talented but they are just stronger faster and better. Anthony Bennett would have been a good player in the 90s purely based off his athleticism and he was a bust in the modern nba
