This was a beautiful day. I remember it vividly. It was a Sunday in Indiana. Spring like weather. Me, a middle schooler, shooting hoops on the back yard hoop that my dad installed waiting for the game to start. yes, exactly, it's just speculation of mine, and it's a fun fantasy to think about, but I like to believe that if Michael Jordan did not retire temporarily twice, especially the one for Baseball, if he played straight all the way from his rookie year to his final retirement in 2003 with the Wizards, I believe he could have broken Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's scoring record
nobodysperfect06 He wouldnt have had to play to 2003...if he didnt retire in 93 and didnt retire at 98...if he had averaged 31 in the year of 93-94 and and 94-95...he would end up with 33,780 by the end of the 98 season if he had played 80 games each season between 93-95...and jordan always tried to play 82 games....now with 33,780 he would be 4,607 points left to tie kareem....which means in two seasons he would need 2,304 each year to pass him....which is 28.8 points a game at 80 games each year....and at age 36 he could have retired with the record...four years before he really retired cause he missed 3 full seasons after 98....but if you factor that the nba only played 50 games in 99' then he would have to play to 37 to do it
another thing I've heard, is what really helped Kareem score that many points in his NBA career, because the first half of Kareem's NBA career was before the birth of the Modern NBA, he started in the NBA I think in 1969 or 1970, retired in 1989, the modern NBA did not start until the 80's with Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, so Kareem played a huge portion of his NBA career in which it was probably easier to score

I respect each one of you what you said but I think it was a possibility that the bulls would have won if Jordan played in 1994 and 1995, he started again in '95 yes but that was with what 17 games left or something. Imagine 1991-1998 lol. And you're all saying about the scoring, I think he would have passed Abdul-Jabbar in these 2 year absence. What I don't know is why he stopped after '98 then came back again 3 years later and when he did he said he did it for the love of game of basketball like said here at the end in the quick post game interview, and not sure about this but maybe he knew he had no hopes of winning titles with the wizards, he just did it for the game. He didn't play like he was with the bulls. So 1984-2003 is a mystery.

Those who were unfortunate to watch this mans journey live during the peak years of his career will not fully understand just how great he was. I was fortunate. He was the greatest ever.Todays generation unfortunately can only watch old tapes of him in action. His impact on the sport of Basketball was through the stratosphere.

In terms of dominance Wilt was taller, bigger and stronger than Michael thats true. I like to measure the key to being the greatest from a mental stand point more than any basketball skill. Michaels mental will to win big games in the final when it mattered most was out of this world. Wilt Chamberlain mental will to win big games was not always there entirely buddy.

The regular season stats don't measure up to playoff stats because when the pressure to perform is intensified due to the stakes being at its highest the stats become more scrutised hence more important. When I look at stats brother I prefer to analyze an individuals playoff statistics much more than his regular season stats. How did Wilts playoff stats measure up with Michaels? Well in terms of playoff stats Wilt dominated the boards and blocked more shots than Mike. But Michael had a higher scoring avg than Wilt. I think they were even in the assists avg category. Wilts field goal percentage was better. But MJs free throw percentage is better than Wilt. I don't think Wilt out performed Michael when it comes to playoff stats. MJ playoff stats isn't something to ignore. Playoffs stats are better to analyze to support an individuals greatness than regular season stats in my opinion.

That made the Chicago Bulls 1 of the most established dynasties in the NBA. I'm glad that his Airness returned on My special day...March 19, 1995.
God the 90's were the golden years of basketball. The NBA was so enjoyable. Politics weren't engrained into the fabric of the game like today. You had toughness and real animosity. It was easy to root for your favorite players especially not having their societal opinions thrown in your face. I just miss the 90's with the great competition and miss watching Jordan. Growing up in the Chicago area, Jordan had a God-like status. I was a freshman in high school when he retired the first time. As 13 year olds, it was a shock to us and it made us sad. I remember when he came back, I think it was the sports announcer for NBC, Mark Giangreco, who interrupted the telecast and said that Michael Jordan was coming back. I remember watching this game and thinking how much thinner he looked and how he didn't have the lift in his legs and how much more he seemed to sweat. I believe the reason why they didn't want him to come back with his first game at home was because the Bulls wanted him to get a couple games under his belt before making his debut at the United Center. A common complaint about the rims at the United Center was that they were stiff. Even though he had practiced with the team, there was no way practice could simulate a live game and with so many new teammates, it was going to take some time to adjust. The #45 jerseys ended up being all the rage at school after he returned. LOL.

I was born 92 so I wasn't old enough to watch this game but my dad did and he told me about this game and how it wasn't suppose to be on NBC they found out that MJ was coming back to play.

In 2012-2014 (cant remember) Manchester United's legendary midfielder Paul Scholes also retired for a few months. He had nearly 20 years playing for the club and had won over 10 "rings" (national league trophies), then he retired but Sir Alex Ferguson (coach who was at the club for nearly 30 years and won all the trophies by his side) made him come back because they were struggling, so he did and they won another "ring" (national league trophy). His return was epic but Paul Scholes isn't considered football's (soccer) goat while MJ is basketball's.
