I always find it so interesting to watch Bulls games from the early 90s and listen to Doug Collins commentate on his former team and interview his former players so shortly after losing his head coaching job to his own assistant, he handled his firing from the Chicago Bulls in such a classy way, never let it jeopardize his announcing career and remained friends with Michael Jordan.
@theloverswineverytime1625
@theloverswineverytime1625 5 лет назад
TRJ2241987 ....Haha. i always paid attention to that too. But i think with Doug being a former all-star player himself, he probably understood that it's a players league and figured "its the business, it is what it is"
@alivingwordwithpastorkello6661
Because he knew that the NBA is like all major sports leagues, they take care of those in the club. He could be classy because he knew he'd be taken care of.

He got a 1991 ring too. Most don't know that
@dc4690

Well MJ got him the coaching job in Washington later...There wasn’t even a ‘coaching search’,pretty sure MJ just said Dougs the coach.I think it was an $8 or $9 mil deal too.Its good to not burn bridges

Doug is a classy guy! Coached Jordan, Pippen, Horace Grant, Grant Hill, Grant Long, (That's a lot of Grants!!!) Joe Dumars, Allan Houston, Jerry Stackhouse, Andre Iguodala, and Jrue Holiday, just to name a few!

You can’t compare this beauty with the traveling, flopping, bandwagon fest that passes for the NBA today. Spurs are outliers.

@meg-k-waldren
@meg-k-waldren 7 лет назад
This is why people need to recognize that the 1st 3 rings was all MJ, then the 2nd 3peat was MJ and Pip - in this game here I'm 91' Pip was in single digit scoring...? Also funny and bizarrely, is Doug and co-commentator foretelling the end-score of this game and Doug foretelling MJ wouldn't play past age 35 and that turned out to be true - MJ retired a final time at age 35 (although 3 years later he came back for that brief stint at the Wiz). Lol, I still think MJ, the better he is, lost a bet, is why he played 2 years with Wiz.

This is always an extremely funny take. People forget that before LeBron, it was almost a joke how much leeway the refs gave MJ. I remember in an interview Patrick Ewing was asked about a travel call and he said "I guess I just thought I was Michael Jordan for a second". They're both great players, shut the fuck up.
@simon_patterson
@simon_patterson 7 лет назад
3:46 commentator "I don't see Michael Jordan being a guy who's playing when he's 36 or 37 years old, I don't think he'll enjoy the game..." Jordan seemed to enjoy himself more on the court when he was 40 than at any other time. He could still really play then, too...
@Decetop
@Decetop 7 лет назад
Simon Patterson yeah but he had already retired twice before then so it's not like this guy was speaking out of his ass

Decetop true, he was half right
@TRJ2241987
@TRJ2241987 7 лет назад
First of all, that is Doug Collins speaking, and second of all, Doug ended up being 100% right, Michael retired when he was 35, and came back when he was 38. Exactly as Doug predicted, Michael did not play professional basketball when he was 36 or 37. It's actually incredible that he predicted that correctly.
@bcjclj
@bcjclj 6 лет назад
TRJ2241987 he didn’t play then because Krause dismantled the Bulls and Phil was leaving. It had nothing to do with his skills diminishing. He didn’t want to retire.
@bwink23
@bwink23 6 лет назад
bcjclj. This. Jordan didnt want to retire, but didnt want to be involved in another rebuilding process at his age. If front office could have worked something out with Phil and Scottie for a couple more years, MJ would have stayed.

this version of jordan is the most passionate in terms of on court emotional display. i would say more so than the 84-90 version because he was at his hungriest state of wanting to win it all.
@boogieloo1831

m Khan - I don't think so at all about the Oakley trade. Obviously Cartwright was an absolute mess but they needed his big body to compete against Ewing and all of the other centers in the league. That height difference makes a huge difference in overall weight and strength and Oakley was simply not big enough to not be muscled out of the paint by true bigs.

He beat defenders while skin to skin in the air without effort at this age. It's like watching a movie, even it's just one game he played in that year. Wow. Now lanes are open and no one can touch you, air means freedom. How he could've shown this generation how to play with graceful and smooth moves like defenders do not exist.

Jordan's mentality was different here at age 28. He wasn't just hitting jumpshots. He was also elevating to the rim because he still could. As he got older his game changed to where he would avoid attacking the rim and instead shoot a jumpshot.

for the love of god someone explain to me how u can watch his game and think lebron is close..... i mean how polished his fundamentals are, his creativity is second to nobody, so smooth and calculated..... then u got a flopping complainer with 2 moves - barrel down the lane in transition or stick his ass out and bully his way to the block to survey the court and pass or shoot an ugly fadeaway.... and this is who there has been a 20 year argument about... unreal
