Having spent much of my adult life doing genuine scientific research at the University of Auckland, I am now deeply ashamed of what that previously excellent institution has become. It's so bad I doubt it can ever be restored. Very sad.

My son is doing architecture and Unitec and said there is an area Just for Māori and Pacifica students and they don’t mix with the whites at all also the bar for them to get into uni is lower??? Why? They are not stupid people!🤷🏻‍♀️😡

Do any of you remember the 'Positive Discrimination' policy that led to Maori lawyers and Judges being trained up for the Waitangi Tribunal? No wonder we can't wind the Tribunal up. Gravy train. And what about the unintended effect that 65% of trainee doctors get in under a Maori quota? Aren't they at best representing some 17% of the population? And many of them have very little Maori in them.

What next ? A Maori only parliament ? White British expats residing in NZ are also a minority. Does this give the green light for them to open facilities and venues for those pertaining to that ethnic stereotype ? Maori ’scholars’ and advocates are simply emulating their black American counterparts , who have been practicing this throughout colleges across America. It’s racist and elitist. Undertones of a privileged gentleman’s club spring to mind.

University can be hugely stressful for the neurodiverse, even second time around for me as a mature student, if your bully tutor has a few laughs on you.

In 1990 the first whanau room was established due to education to nursing students on the Treaty of Waitangi and the impact of colonization to Maori holistic health. The discussions became very sensitive to the pakeha colleagues some were reduced to tears. The nursing management decided Maori will be taught by Maori tutor and pakeha students by Pakeha tutors. Maori student felt free to express freely their experiences as a Maori in a safe environment knowing they would not be offending their pakeha colleagues.

1) you seem to think the words "designated" and "exclusive" is synonymous which is wrong, anyone is allowed in the space, it's just designated to allow the Maori and Pasifika ethnic groups to culturally be themselves, the space doesn't have a door or a lock for a reason 2) no one seems to have a problem with the lgbt, postgraduate, mature, religious, and other specific initiatives that this uni, as well as others have set up, these disucssions always tend to be brought up only with race 3) I'm not sure why pakeha seem to think that because it's an endeavour not focused on them, that it's about attacking them, sorry to break it to you, but the creation of these spaces weren't about thinking what pakeha wanted, it's about addressing an issue that pakeha did not care to help resolve, thats simply it, to not overcomplicate it
