Love that he puts Rory Gallagher in that group of great guitarists who inspired him.

This is excellent! I finally get to hear Michael Schenkers side of the story. He contributed more to the Scorpions than I ever knew.

The fact that Michael has stayed as sharp mentally as he has after all the years of abuse he put himself through is amazing.

As an American I'm always impressed how Europeans speak multiple languages so well. Michael grew up speaking German but he speaks English with only a slight accent. Americans...we aren't as skilled lol. I'm lucky I speak English properly

Ok I’ve just listened to his two most recent albums they rock they’re on the same level as built too Destroy and Temple Rock now that being said, I think Michael has slowed down a little bit of his old are years because he is without a doubt probably in the top five greatest guitar players ever in my mind. He’s number 2 right behind Frank Marino, who is the greatest guitarist. This world will ever know!!! and I will pick my three best rocking albums. By Michael Schenker which are the first three albums with the second album the black album with red MSG 1981. Being the best and the first album where he is sitting in the dentist chair 1980 being the second best and The third album Assault Attack 1982 being third best. And honorable mention going to Adventures of the imagination and Beware of the Scorpions. Long Live. Michael Schenker and may he keep Rocking our brains out for years to come.

You are so great! I am happy, that you got sober and carry on playing guitar at its ablolutely best. I am a fan since the early 80s when I was 10 years old. Liebe Grüsse aus Berlin!

Germans are very efficient and precise with their engineering which is what I think Schenker brought to guitar if you notice his tone and his riffs are very clean

It certainly leaves an impression. Certainly he watched other bands play live at the venues. I worked at a show once in probably 1980, maybe the first or second time UFO played in the USA. I was the union steward for the stagehands union. A very young union steward of maybe 21 or 22 years old. the bill included UFO, Judas Priest and and a southern rock band that was hot at the time. I think it was Molly Hatchet. I thought it was strange that they tossed them in the mix. I liked all of the bands myself pretty much equally. What a great time for rock music in the USA. These kids today get garbage. It's so sad. I rarely listen to music myself when I'm off work. I worked in the industry most of my life and played in bands from the time I was 19 until I was in my late 30's. I got into production work rather than playing because the pay was so much better and sadly got away from playing live which i missed dearly but had to make a living and just didn't have the money to carry on as a player in midwest Ohio. Some of friends made it but there families had money and they could solely dedicate to music. most of us had to get a job. lol Shenker is still one of my most favorite and probably favorite guitarist of all time. any way I just got to the pint where I didn't want to hear music because it was so connected to my job. the old lady bitches because I won't turn the music on while we are riding the bike. I just tell her i want to ride safe and hear well. Truth is i just want to hear the bike. no MUSIC. lol

The southern rock band you are referring to if I had to bet was Molly Hatchet because they were hot at that time. I went to see Molly Hatchet open for Sabbath at the Garden in the 80’s. Not a big fan of Southern rock but the song flirtin’ with disaster rocks. Michael is one of my all time favs too. He’s frickin awesome!

Similar attitude as Frank Zappa and Eddie Van Halen who didn't listen much to music other than their own. Frank made it a point to never play the same song the same way live because each performance was art in the moment. Spontaneous. Michael seems to have taken this to the extreme. I can respect the purity of his art but there's a sacrifice he makes. Isolation. To me music is a social construct that's bigger than any individual artist. It's to be shared. Listening to other music doesn't make you derivative, if from it you create something new and even better.

I think its possible that Michael is a little frustrated with the level of fame that the Scorpions achieved. And in some ways, rightfully so. Yes, Ulrich Roth, Matthias Jabs, and Paul Raymond are/were all fantastic musicians in their own ways. But MS stood apart from the entire pack of Metal/Hard Rock players from then and now. Hes still more fluid, more energetic, more melodic, more rhythmic, more intense than most. Yes the others have their strengths and magic as well. Its just that Michaels magic went a little unnoticed compared to others. I dont agree with Michael when he says that the Scorpions career was largely based off of what he was doing. Anyone can see the influence he had on Love Drive. But the Scorpions sound changed immediately once Uli left or when Matthias showed up. I think a big part of what propelled the Scorpions (regardless of what Michael says about his introducing them to the United States) is their songwriting. And Rudolph and Klaus were not doing all the writing. Matthias wrote. Herman wrote. I just think the Scorpions did a better job of producing music that spoke to more people. I think that gets proved out when their songs are played at sporting events. Michael was never able to achieve that with any of his songs. I think its really important to pay attention in terms of Michaels influence on the other situations he entered, the way the bands he played with sounded at the times he was a member. UFOs sound changed dramatically when Paul Chapman arrived. Even Michael Schenkers own sound changed when he went solo. Yes, his guitar kept that same half-open whah pedal sound, but the songwriting shifted. Not for the worse. It just shifted. Michael Schenker, in all his musical endeavors, generates energy unlike anything I know and have ever encountered. He is my number one and will always remain so. He gets to be frustrated. He gets to express that frustration, even if some of what he says is perhaps overstated. He has earned his place in the history of Rock as one of the most fluid and musical Metal players and has achieved plenty with his contributions to the art form.

If he's so good, why isn't he better known than the Scorpions. A little obnoxious to me. Yeah he plays much better than his brother but there's dime a dozen great guitar players out there. Making music that gets people attention is something else. I don't see how his brother copied him all along the way, there'a no musical link between his music and the Scorpions at all after the 80's at least
