Popeye it was the US that convinced Iraq to invade Iran and provide chemical weapons, conventional weapons, satellites imagery, intelligence, etc.. and it was the US who sent US ambassador to Iraq, April Galipsie-when Saddam let the US know that Kuwait was slant drilling into their oil fields and going against OPEC policy at the time of lowering the oil output to allow Iraq to get its economy back on track, so Bush sent April-who told Saddam, “the US has no opinion on the disputes among Arab nations”, etc.. Iraq invades Kuwait and makes them part of Iraq, giving citizenship to all Kuwaitis (non Kuwait’s can’t later apply for citizenship) and receive the benefits therein; sent in his most trained and experienced troops whom he knew would not pillage and do what poorly trained and poor-baring troops would do as the “victors” in some cases. Bush didn’t care, then Thatcher came to camp David, I believe, with Bush and after this meeting Bush pushed hard for the US to get involved, after saying officially that the US didn’t have a say in the matter. Then got the Kuwait ambassadors daughter to play the roll of a Kuwait nurse(?) and give the infamous “babies in incubators” lie. You’re right, the US waged a war and killed tens of thousands of non-military Iraqis and gutted the countries infrastructure and means of sustaining social cohesion, and lost men and women-to reinstall an absolute monarch that didn’t even allow women to vote at the time. Among many other jarring facts before and after Desert shield/desert storm-I don’t think you know the facts and history about that war and the topic in general. Sounds like you’re out of your league. It was the US that placed Saddam in power in Iraq as “our guy”-until the Zionist Neocons decided other wise. It was the US that-after the British-fostered Wahhabi/Salafist Sunni Islamic extremism to destroy and annihilate FOREVER secular-socialist-pan-Arab nationalism (which was also anti-communist/anti-soviet and non-aligned). Facts matter, mate. It’s never here nor there.
Popeye I’m an independent. Why would you think I’m a leftist? Everything I said is archival facts. Just because you don’t know it exists or know about it doesn’t mean it is not fact. Archival facts and primary sources from April Glaspie; Kuwaiti ambassador to the US (Saud Nasser Al-Saud Al-Sabah) daughter (Nayirah al-Sabah) testimony on October 10, 1990 to the Congressional Human Rights Caucus, about throwing babies out of incubators, organized and ran by Citizens for a free Kuwait via US public relations firm, Hill & Knowlton Strategies. Did/do you even know any of this? Are you seriously saying these historical facts, archival facts and primary sources never occurred? This appears to be an example of “you don’t know what you don’t know”. Again, if you don’t know these basic facts surrounding the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, the lead up to it, desert storm/shield, etc.. then, again, you’re out of your league.
Popeye what did I say that is antisemetic? That trope doesn’t work. Do you know what the Pentagons office of special plans was? Douglas Feith? Lawrence Franklin (whom was charge and convicted of spying for Israel via passing classified documents on US policy towards Iran to AIPAC). Neoconservatism was founded by disillusioned liberal American Jews. These Neocons are Zionist-declares Zionists. The very same Zionist Neocons wrote the policy paper, “A Clean Break: Strategy for Securing the Realm”, while working for the Israeli-based think-tank, IASPS (Institute for Advanced Strategic and Political Studies), for the then Netanyahu government in 1996/1997. This policy paper detailed targeting Israel’s enemies in the region by engaging in conventional wars and supporting and funding proxy groups and fomenting internal unrest in the States listed in the paper. These States were: Iraq, Syria, Libya, Lebanon, and Iran. These very same Zionist Neocons, that worked at the Israeli-based think-tank IASPS and wrote the “clean break” policy paper for a foreign government, we’re brought into the Bush Jr. administration and the Pentagon. I can go on-this is all open source, public domain information. Do you know any of this? Do you care about the facts of these events and topics-do you care? Do you just accept the talking points you’re told, and what you’re told to believe? Calling me a leftist antisemite? I’m not sure how you come to that conclusion based on the facts provided. I assume you call me an antisemite because you have no argument and can’t refute my facts and my points-which makes sense, since they’re all facts. It’s disgraceful of you to throw around “antisemitism” so nonchalantly, like regressive and racism, sexism and other “isms”, and trivializing the word and the use of it and what it truly means. I find it disgusting actually how liberally you use such a word with the connotations that it does. I recommend you brush up on your knowledge and history on neoconservatism, the Iraq war one and two, as well as the history of the relationship between the US and Zionism and the US and Israel. Utterly shameful, the ignorance and retort and hubris you exhibit.
@Popeye First of all, Iraqi invasion of Kuwait literally had nothing to do with the invasion of Iraq.. You're confusing it with the gulf war, kiddo. Iraq didnt invade Kuwait after the gulf war...
I love Michael Scheuer. His conduct in these interviews is tremendously humble and honest, and he is unafraid of saying unpopular things. He is a true American patriot.
"America and western foreign policy in the muslim world was build entirely on a strategy of maintaining eternal tyranny" That's a freightning sentence..How many Americans would be shocked to hear that..
Bush "cave to cave" statements reminds me that he said that we are the "people who named the stars" not realizing that in Western languages most star names come from Arabic! OOPS!
Not to mention we're relying on Arabic numerals. Plus, during the Dark Ages, it was the Arab scholars that preserved the writings of earlier philosophers, mathematicians, and natural scientists.
Refreshing to hear such plain speaking. I would love to see Mr. Scheuer have a long conversation with 2 other ex-CIA guys: Ray Mcgovern and Daniel Ellsberg. I think Scheuer would be more conservative. I would love to hear their agreement and the points on which they clash. I would also love to see Noam Chomsky with these guys and many others. I highly reccomend the debate between Chomsky and Dershowitz. Chomsky made Dershowitz look ridiculous
Daunts me to see a man building up the interview with such knowledge and understanding to wrap up with abominable conclusions. Maximum possible destruction? Landmine scourge? First-class evil.
Mr Scheuer makes some really reasonable and insightful comments, yet he then says they should have placed landmines along the Afghan and Pakistan border. Surely this would also injure civilians and increase hatred of America by Muslims?
I think Scheuer is excellent and talks a lot of sense. I believe he's overall analysis of US foreign policy and its dire consequences is accurate. The only issue I disagree with him on is his dismissive attitude to landmines. He encourages their use along the Pakistan/Afghan border which in my view is an apalling vista. Landmines, years after they get planted, continue to kill and maim very innocent men, women and children. Modern military techniques shouldnt have to resort to them.
THE FOUNDING FATHERS, OR TRUE PATRIOTS THAT QUESTIONED EVERYTHING THEIR GOVERNMENT TOLD THEM OR DID, AND SAID BEWARE OF THE PARTY SYSTEM IS NOT KNOWN BECAUSE WE DON'T TEACH IT IN OUR SCHOOLS ON PURPOSE. THIS BOOK SHOULD BE MANDATORY READING AT EVERY SCHOOL IN THE USA.
us american policy in the islamic world were/are like in other parts of the world they consider(ed) not to be white or western: overthrow democrats (for example mossadegh, like lumumba and so many others), support dictators (like the al sauds or the mujahedin in afghanistan, like pinochet,...) for their own advantage, be it access to oil or strategic advantages. the support for israel is not to their advantage in the long term, like other moves, and conducted by the zionist lobby
