Accelerationist Yes for them I’m sure it is, and considering how they are the minorities of this world they should enjoy themselves while they can, as judging by their appalling birth rate and tendency to be bred out immediately if a genetically stronger person like the beautiful woman in this video should birth a child with them, they will probably not exist in the next 300 years or so. Protect this woman at all costs. She is so CLEARLY herself. I love how she's so committed to being exactly who she is. I wish we all could make an effort to not pile on social armor and just let things be as she did here. She is strong and vulnerable and brave. Amazing interview.

I love how Krishnan is listening. I am so glad that Michaela has spoken about her journey so far, and it has not been 'perfect' and she is unashamed and authentic
I love that she doesn't allow the interviewer to pen her into a race box, which most interviewers do with black artists. She keeps her treatment of the subject obtuse. Beautiful.
The way she disagrees with something so eloquently, and her thoughts expressed so well that they instantly have a place in your head and heart. She is such a luxury to have in popular culture I personally do horribly on disagreeing, I either brush things off and let them go, or get I get so visibly upset that I can't put out an idea. I'm saving this video to learn
I honestly have so much love for this woman. I'm 20 yo black girl, aspiring screenwriter and producer and I'm a first generation french, born from african parents and I had literally the same, experience/relathionship with christian religion. Seeing her succeeding, creating funny, smart and original content and being so classy and articulate, it just literally fill my heart with hope, joy and pride. When she say confidently, unapologetically «I'm a writer», «I'm a poet»...it just move me and inspire me in a way, nothing else could. Watching Chewing Gum on netflix, helped me broaden my mind on what content as a black woman I could create. Above all it helped me to understand that we do as black people have space in this industry to grow and be our entire, complex self.

Maks Wonderful that someone here is more interested in her talent and intelligence, instead of debating about her looks. She is achieving so much, and that is the story. Congratulations to her, an extraordinary woman. Clearly her success is going to be greater and greater. More grease to her elbow.
Not many comments about how articulate she spoke and her intellect. People need to listen to her message about having a stable mental state of mind and stop writing about how beautiful she is.
shannybwoy: People are talking about her beauty because unfortunately, black women still are not considered beautiful in some places, which is some racist bullshit, to be honest. You can be both beautiful and intelligent at the same time---one does not cancel out the other.
@Winnie I agree with you. Yes, she is highly intelligent; yes, she is highly articulate; yes, she's a very, very deep thinker; she's real. But it's not audio only. We're looking at this face, the cheekbones, the eyes, the lips, everything... It would be very difficult to ignore that. Krishnan seems pretty mesmerized too...:)
Right?!?! The reduction of a woman to her physicality is the most offensive thing in the comment section. Women are more than just their beauty or the qualities that make them striking.
I'm 11 minutes in and I've found my spirit sister. I need to meet her one day. I will meet her one day. Her radiance, authenticity, perspective, power, and beauty is intoxicating.
I love how she is vulnerable but comfortable in her honesty about exploring the unknown (religion), homelessness and dropping out on her road to thriving and inspiring others
She seriously may be the most beautiful woman ive ever seen. No joke, I have butterflies in my stomach like a damn teenager... Man. Michaela Coel... you're absolutely breath taking
I just started watching a netflix drama starring Michaela Coel!!! It's called "Black Earth Rising" and her character is a survivor of the Rwanda Genocide and was adopted by a lawyer and has grown up in the U.K. She is a lawyer now, investigating war criminals. It's like a film noire. it's really good. She's excellent!
Honestly! I love how she’s like anti-gatekeeping. I hate how wealth and popularity are inaccessible because those who have experienced this upward mobility feel as if it’ll be taken away? Whenever I increase my wealth, a bigger percentage is goes to donating causes I support, tipping my coffee shop and service industry people. I feel like we owe each other a hand and I’m so happy to see that she values this over money
She is honest with her self. She is on her journey and will make her way through to her destiny as we all will. Clarity is what she desires and uncertainty is where she is now. It's a journey indeed.
I experienced the same feeling she had with religion. I stopped fighting against my heart. You can find god in your own way. My best advice & thank you Michaela; you’re an inspiration!
It's not about religion it's about relationships with the father which comes through by JESUS Christ (The Only way) who died in our place when we really deserved death he reconciled us back to the father... We must be led by the spirit not our heart (that is what God searches, the heart.)Jeremiah 17:9-10 The heart is deceitful above all things and Beyond cure.Who can understand it? I The Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve..
Tasha B Seay yeah I seek my own path by my ancestors who came before Christianity was forced upon them. Thank you and I respect your comment but I find no trouble in her statement or any beliefs outside of Jesus or any religions tied to it.
@@TheVandalboys Brother, the statement "Christianity was forced on them" is simply a false narrative. Unfortunately, it is an "untruth" that is now become very prevalent in our communities. In reality, the vast majority of what we have today in terms of "Christian Doctrine" was meticulously developed and passed down by many early church fathers who happened to be of African origin (despite popular propaganda pushed against Christianity). (Please research a few of the following early church fathers for yourself: St. Augustine, Athanasius, Origen, Tertullian, etc.). If you are willing to invest the time to conduct an honest and genuine assessment of those individuals, you will clearly see that Christianity thrived for many centuries prior to the Trans-Atlantic slave trade of the 15th century.
Who could ever dislike this? She’s so magnetic, intelligent, I just want more of whatever she’s producing and making ! Thank you michaela if you are reading these comments 🤍

It goes to show how fast she thinks.. even her comedic timing is very fast but extremely hard to miss. They are not like jokes which pile on one after another and you miss it. Absolutely love her comedic timing as well.
I'm an American so the first time I saw her in anything was Black Earth Rising on Netflix. When I saw how unbelievablely gorgeous she was I just assumed she was a model who decided to try a new career as an actor. I had no idea she wasn't a model and didn't know she was a successful writer until this interview. She's so charismatic and genuine. She has that rare form of charisma that completely disarms people. Almost every successful politician has that same trait. It's a talent that can't be learned, either you have it or you don't. Most of the people who have it, and decide to go into politics aren't using it to better the world. They use it to feed their ego. So the people who would use that quality to benefit the world are totally turned off by politics because all they see is the exploitation of that same talent. I get that vibe from her.
This was actually a very brilliant and incredibly rich interview! Especially the things she referenced when it came to leaving Christianity. It was so good to hear that other people have gone through falling in love with a religion and then it not feeling like a good fit anymore. It reminds me of Leah Remini's book, Troublemaker, and I think it needs to be talked about a lot more.
"I was supposed to be this beacon of light but i was too busy receiving light from these other people" I grew up heavily in the church and i agree so much with that statement. I think Christianity is level one in spirituality if you want to advance and hold on to that religion it will stop you. You will being to feel trapped. And you will begin to notice the performance happening in front of you. Love her so much. Phenomenal woman phenomenal human being

Very interesting the story about season 3 of chewing gum....this is something we don’t see enough of. Someone with integrity, who is not afraid to say no if it compromises a previous agreement that would have benefited others; that’s refreshing. Also I get the feeling that 90% of the people commenting here did not watch the whole interview....yes she is beautiful, but there is so much more profound stuff in this interview that should be mentioned.
Preston King my take, as a Black woman, is that I see a heavy appreciation of her conviction, her mantra, character, and persona. I’ve read most all of the comments, and I don’t think that people are saying that she’s ONLY beautiful...I think that they have complimented her authenticity even moreso, but have taken the time to mention how beautiful she is, which we do not mind since the world tears us down more than builds us up.
Michaela is incredibly smart... The interviewer constantly tries to take her down a path and attempts to put words in her mouth, she steps up and teaches him each time... You can still be a christian and love gay people. As a Christian your sole purpose is not to judge and condemn others. It seems as though she had issues with church and religion as an entity not necessarily God. Great interview
Shivon Watson but how are you gonna say that ur going against the Bible if you agree with the LGBT community I swear you Christians don’t know what to say or what to do...
Are you sure you're reading the Bible? There are many instances in the Bible where we are told to judge, it is HOW you judge that makes the difference.
@@ambermarie8027 There are also several instances where we are told not to. "He without sin may cast the first stone." "How can I look at speck of dust in my neighbours eye when I have a plank of wood in my own" etc. If someone is not for Christ entirely, I'm sorry but I can't waste my energy trying to convince them to change, all I can do is love them and let God do the rest.
Michaela I honestly adore how genuine you are. To be honest one of my main reasons watching was to hear your journey with Christianity. As an artist I find that in the nuisance of not knowing or being unsure is the sweet spot. Which you shared that "you love not knowing" You said that you read the bible for the mystery and that is exactly what it is, a mystery!! You have a deep love for God, in the world that we live in we have to at times articulate our beliefs to the point where we are become empathetic and to the points that we make sense of our circumstances and the spaces that we are in. The golden rule of Christianity is love. Love covers a multitude of sins. Literally all we need to do is love, scarifically, until it hurts and even when it's not popular. To say the least ...
I’m thoroughly Christian and also an actress and I really enjoyed this interview. She was transparent and un affraid. It’s unfortunate that she had such an unclear journey with Christianity 🥺 but I appreciate her story and I pray she has more opportunities and her story expands!
Ariel Amejeiras God creates the universe, the universe is not God. Worshipping the creation instead of the creator is a distraction from the truth there is only one truth. God is not whatever we want to call Him. Jesus is LORD the true and living God, He is the way the truth and the light. 😇 He’s the great I AM. God IS the first, the present and the very last and final authority over all of life. ... But there was no other God so nobody ever wanted to identify Him with a name until Mosses asked him what is His Name. Then God says "I AM that I AM, meaning I am the supreme being.
I am a Christian and I believe that she, unfortunately, was not given direction as she looked and needed it. The issues of homosexuality was a great example of how some Christians skirt around issues. God loves the person and hate the sin. Its the same as fornication or adultery. There are no big or little sins. I pray she comes across the right Christian's who will show the love of Christ to all. I know I do and it took me a while to get that revelation personally.
@@katinarandolph9264 I mean you said it, YOU are a Christian. This is the problem I have with religion, you can't stay out of other people's business. She's lived different experiences, she found her truth, let her live and continue to live your carefree christian life. It's that simple
This was so sad to watch because it’s clear that she wasn’t offered the correct guidance or support by her church (no disrespect to them) but it’s very sad that many church’s in this day and age are avoiding these kind of questions. As Christians we must rise up because simple misconceptions are pushing too many people away from the body of Christ, when we are called to be a ministry of reconciliation not condemnation.
At about 10 years old I realized the terrible hypocrisy my childhood pentecostal church where men could get away with pretty much any, including sexual abuse, and guilting my poor family and neighbors into tithing. EDIT, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: this is a comment from a year ago. Though i still believe there is a worthy of dissection connection between Christianity and white supremacy in West Africa historically and currently, I realise that I might've come off as authoritative and offensive in my response. I have also come to realise that people find ways of deconstructing and learning their religion outside of it just being passed down to them and that there is a history of christianity also serving as empowering and/or a refuge from opression for black people. If you call yourself pro black and you have arrived to your christianity through your own means, then this does not apply to you and there is no dissonance in the two identities. Thus my answers through this thread only apply to people who dont fall into the second group. Thank you This is what I say. You can't claim to be "woke" or pro black and literally base your morality on this little cult that (was historically) and still is an instrument of colonisation and white supremacy. Religion for Africans is the religion of Africans, yet so many of the natural practsioners of African religions (Ghanians and Nigerians more specifically) have adopted Christiniaty (the oppressor's religion) so strongly that they are the first ones to demonize traditional African religions that have nothing to do with the dark connections given to them.
@@bimbowithadegree420 You need to be able to seperate Christianity and White Europeans. They are not the people or creators of Christ and life of Jesus
If you don't like the feeling of "I don't know" - the wrong thing to do is to fill it will something because you'd rather have something than nothing. The right thing to do is to stay with "I don't know" until you have a good reason to believe something. Something supported by reason and evidence.
I agree. A reaction is not an opinion. Many of us feel like we SHOULD have a view on everything(informed or not!) but it takes some strength to say "I don't know enough about this yet. I'll get back to you".

I’m American, Christian and have never heard of this woman but I’m completely captivated by her intelligence, beauty and vulnerability. She’s amazing!!
Yes, but let the people enjoy what was always beautiful that many are now seeing and still on that journey to recognizing and acknowledging that a black woman of a particular skin tone with her own natural 4c hair is strikingly beautiful. It's silly to even say that because I grew up not recognized for my beauty but I saw everyone no matter their colour as beautiful. However, the world in itself is not always accepting of others
I would love to see her put her questions to fearless apologetics people from Desmond Tutu, Francis Chan, a Jesuit priest, some rabbis etc. Clarity matters more than agreement. She's so beautiful. She shouldn't allow others' muddy waters to stunt her spiritual growth.
She is a beautiful soul. Christianity is not needed to be a good person. Her spirit shines because she's authentic, intelligent and kind. anyone who has a problem with her not being Christian has missed the point. Even jesus didnt say he was a Christian, you all are just trying to create chaos because you've been trained that you need to call yourself something to be or feel validated which is unfortunate plus you're judging her, which is not very embodying of christ consciousness. She is a reflection of God and amazing. Maybe all you naysayers need to check your intention about your religiosity.
It's interesting that you think the Christ not being his own citizen is somehow a point. You don't have to like Christianity or be a Christian but surely you can make a reasoned argument.
We're all made in the image of God but that doesn't mean God accepts everything that we do and he clearly doesn't homosexuality goes against the natural flow of human sexuality and whether you like it or not it is considered a sin like many others.

Love her attitude of 'pay attention', 'not being complacent', & 'have a vision'. Her joining a church seems simply filling a lack of community for a child of immigrants. Sadly, beyond professional organizations, the secular society lacks any formal or structured organization to help young people connect & find a sense of community. Good to know she came to see the light of religious sexism & freed herself!
I definitely know the feeling she’s describing in terms of her relationship with Christianity...there are times when u r sitting there and you’re like this feels fake...like an entire show is going on before you...and it’s definitely hard when gay ppl show you the love of Christ far more than your fellow Christians...everyone’s journey is different and I can’t wait to see what happens to her spiritually...also what church was she going to?!? Frank Osei Boadi the old way of my grandparents where there is a set formula to how one should worship...lack of ones own personal faith and worship and more set on appearances
This just shows that unanswered questions can literally be the reason why people leave the faith. We as Christians should be able to defend the gospel and answer the basic questions people have about the bible. It’s really sad that she wasn’t able to receive any clarity because the questions she was asked all had answers. There just wasn’t anyone to give the answer
A lot of the pentecostal black churches in the UK don't really teach much theology, it's sad to see so many of the young men who attend these churches incarcerated at some point in their lives. These churches overtly focus on 'prosperity' teaching much of which is imbalanced...black people are leaving churches for lots of different viewpoints including Islam etc.
Christians should all go to university so they can all feel their way out of the church into reality. Many of us have done so, and you can too. Christians never get to hear the stories of people who have left, and it's too bad. We allow you guys to develop echo chambers on the internet where your voices are the only voices on morality as if you own that market corner. Give it a go. Start taking responsibility for the contents of your psyche and start your journey toward becoming an intellectual adult today.

Is it not possible to comment on what Michaela is saying without the ‘she is so intelligent, she is so beautiful’ comments. What is the constant surprise that black people are intelligent or beautiful. The young woman is talking of her passion for her work. Could people just listen please!
@KEVIN MAXIMthere's absolutely no sin in stating that she is a beautiful woman who sat down and did a 40 minute interview about her journey; her inspiration, her faith, her passion, her career and overall an insight to her experiences and how it has affected the way she portrays the world and how she feels with her characters. It might be over simplification, but for a 40 minute video about so much, its a little bit irking that a vast majority of the comments talk about her face. Why not about faith? Or their inspiration? Or about art? Poems? Thoughts on the movie industry? Sexuality?
It is July of 2020. I just discovered Michaela about 3 weeks ago when I started watching I May Destroy You. I have been amazed by her acting and the issues the show is bringing to light. But as I listen to her story, it just broke my heart and literally brought me to tears to read that she no longer accepts Christ. Michaela, I pray that you read this. From your own mouth you confess that you had no creative life before you accepted Christ. So how could you allow anything to pull you away from Him? The Bible does say that we can't serve two masters. But why turn away from the Master who gave you the other master? Why not use the gift He blessed you with to serve Him?
