just fantastic. As someone who plays both lute music (on guitar) and recorder, I can with confidence say that these two don't even play fair. Miss Michala is the one who got me interested in playing the recorder decades ago. She and her then husband (Lars above) did a Sunday morning concert on my public radio station. Already studying classical guitar and at the time studying lute music,, it was not hard at all to be entranced by the wonderful performance on recorder by such a magnificent and dedicated artist as Miss Michala. God (for lack of a better word) bless Miss M and people like her. They make the world a better place.
I accompanied a flute player in this sonata on harpsichord when I was in high school back in the 1970s. Then I heard Michala perform in the 1980s. Nice to hear this so many years later.
Michala is the best ! A reference and an inspiration for all recorders players ! An angel of the recorder ! Huge talent and technique ! God bless you you angel Michala !
I've been listening to Michala Petri since she was 16 and the one thing I like about her playing is how she shapes the music. Early days, I'll accept there was more technicality than musicianship but that has smoothed out over the years. I've never seen anyone else who criticizes her come up with someone who can now take over Bruggen's crown as the best recorder player - so I'm going to say that Michala Petri is the best recorder player around today.
@ What do you miss? The stirring the air around with the recorder like other players do it? I am very happy that she is concentrating on her playing. No "show moves" necessary...
Llevo muchos años viendo este video una y otra vez pero nunca deja de asombrarme la perfección de su técnica, sobretodo el manejo de sus dedos , que casi no los separa del instrumento como sí hace otra joven recorderista famosa. Espectacular.
18 years ago I listened your incredible sound (both Lars and Petri create a perfect duo) for the first time. It was during the Opening Ceremony of the 32th International Chemistry Olympiad held in Copenhagen, Denmark. 3rd July 2000. You both played. Do you remember? I represented Mexico during that competition. Great memories. From that point I have loved for years your incredible performances and artistry.
ameblo.jp/galwayera/entry-12126435608.html Despite, the fact that this sonata (BWV-1033) is difficult for modern flute players, Mrs. Michala Petri has blown it by a primitive tool called recorder. Moreover, perfectly. And accompaniment of lute is also awfully good. we must notice the movement of the minuet (<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="262">4:22</a>~). It is full of so wonderful improvisations which she has invented . I've heard such flexible behaviors of the player were welcome in Baroque era. she has also good sensitivity for Jazz .
+danawinsor * I don't look down recorders. But I think the adjective "primitive " wouldn't be appropriate in this case. I should select "difficult" on behalf of "primitive". I thought that recorder is so difficult to play especially chromatic scale comparing with modern metal flute. I'd like to agree with your view about recorders. If the genius like Michala Petri played the recorder, it would become an accurate sophisticated instrumental. And Mr. Hannibal's lute is so marvelous as same as Goran Sollscher, guitar.
Parabéns Sra. Michala Petri. Para nós brasileiros da América do Sul estas músicas nos parece tão distante. Apenas uma centelha musical nos liga à Portugal, nossa Pátria-Mãe.
I have several cd's featuring Ms. Petri and I absolutely love them. I sometimes will play them for other people and will and everyone I play them for loves them as well. I would like to ask Ms. Petri what recorder she used to feature this beautiful recording (an alto I think) but what kind of wood and where did you get it? Thank u for such beautiful music!!! :) (and the accompanist too!) Tracy Owen
Tak for altid. Michala, dine interpretationer er fantastisk og uovertræffeligt! Jeg er meget begejstret. Ja, jeg sværmer for dit spil. Jeg ligger på min seng, slutter mine øjne og begynder at drømme....
Beautiful playing. She does right by Bach. She has everything memorized and is completely at ease with what she's doing. Her lute player makes his part look easy (which it isn't).
Bravo
