To convey the troubled atmosphere of the villa in the Var region, as well as the study of morals that turns into a criminal drama, Deray called on Michel Legrand, who would soon win an Oscar for The Thomas Crown Affair.
The composer has worked on a vast trompe-l'oeil score, where serenity camouflages a crescendo of unease. Between two deceptively indolent ballads, guided by Stéphane Grappelli's magic violin with the voices of Christiane (Legrand's sister), Michel Legrand himself, and the inner voices of Delon and Romy. To this was added a mixed choir composed of Marilyn and Alan Bergman, from which emerged several themes and pop songs, destined to feed the Tropezian nights. Legrand later said of the score that his intention « was to make you feel that a volcano was rumbling that could sweep everything away ».
