Michel is one of the gods of jazz, is one of the gods of the piano. And extremely modest man. See how it says a lot about 45 seconds after completing the game. How to respond to applause. Not wallows in them, only modestly thanks. Then he talks to children. Such a small - and so big. A brilliant pianist. Rest in peace, Michel.
@@manuelfrn I know a lot about classical music and not much about jazz but I think the tune was composed by Duke Ellington. Great how Petruciani makes it his own! The original makes me less nervous though.
@@ecstrema Yep, just ask his entourage. I share the same health problem, my mother knew him a bit. Geniuses ain't often easy on a social scale. I mean, break your fingers once and go play like that anyway. They can't fathom his true self.
4:04 By Martin Chilton - Published on December 28, 2021 “My biggest inspiration is Duke Ellington, because in my very early age he gave the inspiration to play the piano,” said Petrucciani. He was particularly proud of his 1992 album Promenade With Duke, on which the Frenchman honored the music Ellington composed and played; his seven-minute version of “Caravan” explores every nuance of the 1936 hit Ellington wrote with trombonist Juan Tizol.
Didier
love how he tells those kids off for talking during his performance lol. he also knows that what he just played transcended all normal boundaries and was something truly legendary
Bon sang ! Tu ne connaissais pas Michel ! Notre Michel !!!!
I think it's amazing to see how impatient he was to get back to playing. For him it was not about being adored, it was all about playing. He wasn't exactly an humble person. He was entirely aware of his own greatness, and being recognized actually was important for him. But music was more important than that. More than anything.
It’s always fascinated me how brilliance shows up on people like an actual aura and makes them gorgeous and graceful no matter anything else. This man could just as easily be a beautiful dancer to my eyes.
I'm speechless..no words to describe the talent and ingenuity of Petrucciani. His music is so complete. He doesn't even need a band. Thanks for posting!
I just discovered this pianist this week and this strange thought creeps in provoked by his performances, I keep asking myself "Who the heck is this guy?" and I just can't come up with an answer. Each song he plays he's like a different person in each one. He takes a song and does whatever he wants with it.
I remember the first time I saw him was on TV at a Welsh jazz festival. I was surfing around the channels and kept coming back to Michel playing 'Looking Up'. i was mesmerized. Now I have quite a few of his CDs, and the one he did with Eddy Louiss. Fantastic stuff ! Huge thanks and RIP to Michel !
Let's not forget Art Tatum. He was a god to many if not all respectable jazz pianists. Even Stravinsky and Rachmaninoff were bowled over by his technical and improvisational skills.
The reference to the little body is one of feeling totally overwhelmed by us normal untalented ordinary folks, overwhelmed, humbled and reverent when we are faced with such a passionate genius , body and wonderful soul!
Roman Adar the thing is: when I first saw him I was like: “ohh year he’s gonna be goood”, because I kinda expected him to really feel the music. And I wasn’t disappointed a bit!
WOW!! Amazing! God Bless you, Michel. An entire life dedicated to his art, to the music, to the jazz. This is the real meaning of the word LOVE. He made the world happier. Thanks, Michel Petrucciani. RIP
My GOODNESS! He is SOOOO good! It just feels GREAT and he so smooth. He was a GREAT force and is truly missed. Thanks so much for posting this G! Respect, IZ
