I'll tell you why it connects so much to the US audience. Because we now live in a country that's divided in everything and we can seem to get over ourselves to come together and have a discussion. Downton is a romanized reality of where a large group of people really do care for each other and they have each other's back even if they don't agree with each other all the time. Incredible show.

Wait?! What?! Laura had a baby and we never had a word?!? Like Edith scuttling off to Switzerland to have Marigold?? No, really, I do know they're entitled to their privacy (but I do feel just a teensy bit left out). I'm happy for them. 😊

People did not have enough interest in them. It is easy to be private when no one has interest in you. If Michelle had a baby, she would never be able to hide it. Laura said in one interview about 5 years ago she still rides the London tube and is rarely recognized.

The movie was very much like the series. While the first movie was kind of a like a Christmas special, this felt like an episode. I loved the movie. And ,I loved how almost everyone from the series had proper parts. Dr. Clarkson, Mr. Mason, Dinker. It was amazing. And the last 20 mins, lord, it was really hard.

The France question was very american, going from England to the south of france is 600 or 700 miles, not an everyday trip but also not "Wow, you got to go there!" worthy, it's like going from New York to Cleveland distance wise. Americans often tend to forget how small european countries are compared to america.
