Can we bring THIS type of skating back, where a skater was able to seamlessly combine the technical content with an expressive artistry that had an emotional impact that touches people? Good God how I miss Michelle and the special quality she brought to the sport of figure skating.
You know. When I watch other figure skaters perform, I get very nervous. But when Michelle Kwan skates. It gives me a sense of calm yet confidence that she’s completely in control of herself. She’s of vivid beauty, the essence of calm with pure passion beneath it all. She smiles and this gives me what I want, she’s just being herself and is not scripted like other figure skaters seem to be.
Machelle didnt need to win the gold to define her as a legend in the sport .her skating spoke that for her.there is absolutely no one like her then or now today
She deserved the Olympics gold more than the other skaters in her era.....she had bad lucky, she was robbed at the 98 Olympics. Her artistry and technique were better than Tara Lipinski and Sarah Hughes.
The fact that I saw this live.... Was so beautiful...I can't express the joy she inspired with her skating... Just magnificent.. Nothing before ( and I've watched skating for more than 3 decades) or since....she is the best ever!!! IMHO 😇😘😄
Michell's spiral sequence was a perfect example of elegance in simplicity. She skated from the heart and her motto of "Work hard, be yourself and have fun" changed the way I looked at life. :)
This is still my favorite as it is mesmerizing. The music, the flow of the dance, Michelle's facial expression, the artistic flow of her movement going with the music, wow! It gets to your inner core and makes you emotional. Very beautiful, very touching, very Michelle Kwan. Thank you for this unforgettable performance.
There was no greater artist on ice than Michelle Kwan. She truly transcended the sport. This program was proof that Michelle's skating was both magic and enchantment. No other skater could elicit deep feeling from the combination of ice and music.
Cast your eyes on the ocean... Cast your soul to the sea... When the dark night seems endless, please remember me... This is probably my favorite song by Loreena McKennitt.... Although I love most of her songs...
It is beautiful in every way. I would watch Michelle again and again because there is no other skater like her,. She is so fluid of movement and in synch with the music
This is absolutely brilliant, in my opinion. Can we make this the choreography standard? Current programs are so poorly constructed and have almost no relationship to the music (and the music is pretty off too, especially now that vocal music is allowed and has been a real game changer for the level of awful choices).
Ladies of 2021 this is what we call skating all wrapped up in 1. Today's skating they emphasized to much on the quads an triple axles an not what skating is supposed to be
+Jose Hill How can an alleged "legend" fail to win the biggest prize in all of figure skating, the Olympic Gold Medal? Well, Janet Lynn is considered a legend based on her beautiful skating technique. However, Kwan will always be remembered for her failure to win the Olympics when she was favored to win. It's really sad and ironic that she failed to reach the pinnacle of figure skating by failing to win the Olympic gold medal. Poor Michelle, and to be beaten by that little pixie with horrible skating technique and very small pixie jumps.
+iluvfirenze89 You're (rightfully) calling Janet Lynn a legend, even though she also totally failed to win Olympic gold, losing to that lumbering free skater Trixie Schuba? But you're not affording your same logic to Michelle Kwan, whose longevity surpasses even Ms. Lynn? Your reasoning makes absolutely no sense.
There are so many skaters even today that hope to be able to skate like Michelle.... not sure anyone wants to skate like Tara ...maybe the way she rotates so fast in the air, but that's about it
John Michael To your point the great Yu Na Kim has spoken openly about how big of an influence Michelle was to her skating. That is how you leave a legacy.
