I've been searching for videos about Michigan's state parks, and yours are by far the best. Thanks so much for the incredibly useful information!

We really like finding the more rural and rustic spots to camp in the northern Lower Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula. Best way to get away from the daily grind. Thanks for watching and commenting!

We just got home from a four day camping weekend at Wilderness State Park. It was so great! Our dogs loved Dog Beach. We saw a Bald Eagle flying along the road as we were driving home. We loved the sounds of the waves at night. The sky was clear at night and the stars were incredible. Soooo many great photos from the weekend.

Thanks guys for another great review. I’ve been to Petoskey SP many times but have only driven up through Wilderness SP via Good Hart and the tunnel of trees most beautiful drive. Thanks again!

Tunnel of Trees is awesome. We'll probably include footage of that in our Petoskey SP video, which is coming up soon. Thanks for watching!

Another great review, and I love your shirt! I was disappointed that it wasn’t available on your resources page (I see Jessi’s skirts there). Looking forward to your next video!

Thanks for watching and commenting! The centennial parks shirt was one we found for sale at Hoeft State Park. The Friends of Hoeft group had them printed up and are selling them as a fundraiser for the park. The DNR apparently made the logo available to all of the parks and then it has been up to them to come up with different products if they wanted to sell them. Also, the state has some centennial gear available at this website: shoppeninsulas.com/collections/michigan-parks/centennial

@@Trekers Thanks for the tip. My family camped at Hoeft about 25-30 years ago, and I remember liking it there. Unfortunately, I'm about 750 miles away these days, so probably won't get a chance to pop over and see if they're still available for sale. And it doesn't look like they have a website, either. Oh well. I had seen the shirts at the site you mentioned, but not the style you were sporting. Nevertheless, I would certainly be happy with one of them instead. Thanks again!

I have a big problem with mosquitoes. I heard they are worse the further north you go. I heard also that big spray doesnt even phase those rustic mosquitoes. Maybe just wearing long xlothing helps. Such a beautiful place though. Awesome vid!

It really is pretty there, and every season is a little different for mosquitoes in northern Michigan. We have found the lotion and spray made by Sawyer are pretty effective. While at camp, we use a Thermacell unit that we really like that seems to keep them away, too. Thanks for watching and commenting!

You can also pick up the North country hiking trail and head South from Wilderness Park. I hike the Wilderness Park trails year round but my opinion the best time to go is fall after the first good frost almost no bugs and the colors are amazing from the Red Pine trail. Thank you for another great video

Great tips. I've been surprised how many times we've come across the NCT in state parks. I never realized where it ran in Michigan. Hiking at least some of it is on my to do list now. Thanks for watching and commenting! -Ari

You can always get to islands, you just need a boat, kayak, paddle board or be a good swimmer. I'm betting that you won't have any overnight company if you camp on those islands. Do you know if you can?
@Trekers
@Trekers 4 года назад
We don't believe any camping is allowed on the islands.

Looks like a great place but, I wouldn't be able to handle it. The bugs really like me more than others. I'd be doused in chemicals or eaten up. When is the best time of year to go when the bugs are not as prevalent?
@Trekers
@Trekers 4 года назад
Tough to say for sure. Usually, cooler weather is better and staying away from slow-moving or stagnant water sources helps. So, early spring or early fall might put the odds in your favor. Also, even at Wilderness State Park, the mosquitoes weren't bad everywhere just on some of the trails. Having said that, I once heard a backpacker say, "Bugs are like the weather, prepare for it but don't let it stop you." There are lightweight clothes that can help repel bugs, "better" chemicals to use now, etc. And enjoying some parts of an area without diving deep into the wooded trails can make a world of difference. -Ari

I was up in the area mid October, my family, dog and myself did not encounter one bug. However, we did encounter a cold front which included a couple days of snow. It's beautiful during the fall but prepared for any type of weather!

So true about the weather, especially anywhere in northern Michigan and the U.P. Thanks for watching and commenting! Good to know about the lack of bugs in October.
