Mick was one of my fav players as a kid growing up in the 70s and always used to copy his windmill celebration. I remember been 10 years old and my school footie team was playing Norton Road in the semi final of our school cup. I used to play as a winger but had hurt my shoulder. So was on the subs bench and had my arm in a sling. We had 10 mins to go and the score was one all. My teacher, Mr Darley asked if i could play. I came on and my first run into the box my mate John Ingham laid the ball onto me. It was one of them old school orange heavy leather balls you used to get back in the day. I toe punted it on the half volley and basically sliced the shot and the ball was going wide when one of their defenders tried to clear the ball with a diving header and put it in the back of the net. Obviously i claimed the goal and i did the the windmill celebration and John jumped on me saying how much he loved me along with the rest of the team. That split second i was the hero of the day and we went on to win the game. I had tears in my eyes celebrating. On the way home we shared a can of 7up as it was a glorious summers day. A great memory to have for me now approaching 60 and of a less complicated time in my life and the memories of playing footie. That ranks up there with winning the 3 legged race with Mukesh Patel during school sports day. Great memories...
He always played like he was enjoying himself and scored a very creditable 21 goals in 46 games for England, much of it whilst playing in the Second Division.
Remember Dave Mackay's last game for Derby at The Dell - 4-0 to Saints - pouring with rain and one of the best headed goals you would ever see by Mike Channon at the near post from a cross by, I think Johnny Sydenham at the Milton Rd end. Truly magnificent and one of my boyhood heroes.
Very harsh, he was a great servant for England and that is saying something coming from a Scot, he always went the extra mile against us, great player.
@starofdavid9919 well yeah vs Scotland - I think his first Goal was against your lot in that Unfortunate 0 - 5 Centenary match 73 - but otherwise when Really needed Poland 73 Italy 76 were did he go - Anyway this New Scotland - are going to teach us a lesson in September I'll bet you Actually Believe - whatever happens I hope you join us in Germany mate .
@@jamescorlett5272 46 caps and 21 goals is not bad by any means. Yes I really think we can actually do something, boys all playing the part well, not had this much hope in a long time, really need the Tartan Army at these big tournaments to liven things up haha, take care pal.
