"Past the Point of Rescue" has been recorded by several other artists, including Mary Black (1988), The Dixie Chicks (1992), and Hal Ketchum who took it to #2 in the American country charts. The song won two BMI awards - Most Played Song of 1993, and One Million Radio Plays.

Love my Irish/Scottish ancestry...Wish my mama could be here and know I share her love of music. Wish I could play the harmonica like my mama...well, I got the gift of "dancer" at least. Love this song by and Hal Ketchum and Mick Hanly duet.

Couldn't Comment on the live performance featuring Hal Ketchum, probably for copyright issues. But here goes. It's rare that a lyric grabs you by the throat, but this is it. Talking directly to you. You know you've been there. And survived. Lucky me.

Mary Black has apparently been called-out for her "jaunty", "Zydeco" and otherwise "jolly" rendition of this beautiful song. When I read any or all of those words I was rendered literally speechless. I mean: it never even *occurred* to me, having heard her version in the early 90's, that it was anything other than a full cry from the very-depths of the heart. My god: can people really be that stupid??? I simply despair...
