Something else that strikes me about Mick Lynch is his patience and persistence in the face of the constant haranguing interruptions by the over-educated idiots in the media. A lesser man would resort to irritation and anger, losing the thread of his argument, which is exactly what the "journalists" want to see happen. How he manages to remain calm in order to make his point in every interview is totally impressive.

I recently listened to The Moral Maze programme on Radio 4 whose subject was the NHS. They had some guy who believed more marketisation of the NHS would improve it (though he was willing to keep a basic service for the poor) and another who talked about a more 'mixed' system but never defined it. There were a couple of dissenting women called as witnesses. One was Ash Sarkar and another was a Professor from a University in the North of England who was a specialist on the NHS. They explained how the NHS was already being damaged by the invasion of 'marketisation' and talked about why the NHS was set up as it was (first principles) and the importance of equal access to healthcare (supported by over 90% of the population) and what had been happening to damage the performance of the NHS over recent years (loss of beds, loss of funds through profit taking, Covid pressures, staffing losses, and the increase of private patient income raising in NHS Trusts as an example). Brilliant arguments from them, but once they had left, it was as though they had never spoken. The conversation returned back to the old first points and 'solution' proposals without any acknowledgement of the points the witnesses made. It was very disappointing from the BBC but sadly not unusual these days. Mick Lynch shows up the gaping intellectual holes in BBC and other media debates. The BBC has become very timid and superficial now and seems often just to follow the themes of the tabloid press.

Jesus fuckin christ that's awful. Actual expert knowledge in the field pitted as equal to random libertarian think tankers. Terrible for the bbc to be introducing these ideas into public discourse- in what way is any of the situation a moral maze. They're talking about furthering profit motives within the operation of healthcare, the evidence laid out is gonna show that this will cause more overall harm to patients. There's no moral quandary there. Also that kinda reminds me of when mick lynch just demolishes someone's point and then they just move on like nothing happened.

So i guess our current Labour Party are trying to avoid coming accross as the same as Jeremy because they feel it will damage their chances of winning the next election. It's a bit of a catch 22 situation. If Labour speak out in support of the unions, or start condemning brexit, telling the truth about brexit. The right wing media and con party will eat them for breakfast. The real problem is our first past the post voting which isn't fit for purpose or democratic. We need a proportional voting system, one that means every vote actually counts. There were some mayor elections done with the proportional system and the Labour candidate won, so the tories are changing it to a first past the post voting system. Come October energy prices are set to rise 42% The capitalists are laughing the balls and tits off at the workers. What they gonna do ask for another pay rise in October? So in a sense they have agreed to a pay cut. All the capitalists are doing is cutting the cloth at one end and sowing it on the other! The workers have fallen for the same old trick again. This is my first time at Davos and I find it quite a bewildering experience, to be honest. I mean, 1500 private jets have flown in here to hear Sir David Attenborough speak about, how we‘re wrecking the planet. And I hear people talking the language of participation and justice and equality and transparency but then, noone raises the real issue of tax avoidance, right? And of the rich just not paying their fair share. It feels like I’m at a firefighters conference and noone is allowed to speak about water, right? There was actually only one panel apart from this one, one panel hidden away in the media center that was actually about tax avoidance. I was one of the 15 participants. Something needs to change here. I mean, 10 years ago the World economic forum asked the question, what must industry do to prevent a broad social backlash? The answer is very simple: Just stop talking about philanthropy and start talking about taxes. Taxes, taxes. We need to. Just two days ago there was a billionaire in here - what‘s his name? - Michael Dell. And he asked a question like, name me one country where a top marginal tax rate of 70% has actually worked? And, you know, I am a historian - the US, that’s where it has actually worked, in the 1950s, during Republican President Eisenhower, the war veteran. The top marginal tax rate was 91% for the people like Michael Dell. The top estate tax for people like Michael Dell was more than 70%. I mean, this is not rocket science. We can talk for a very long time about these stupid philanthropy schemes. We can invite Bono once more. But, come on, we‘ve got to be talking about taxes. That‘s it. Taxes, taxes, taxes. All the rest is bullshit in my opinion. (Rutger Bregman on the Davos World Economic Forum 2019)

Globalisation and establishing status in low taxation havens has redefined how companies operate. Public companies operate for their shareholders to maximise profit distribution through dividends. Without global cooperation or strong governments dictating tax to be paid where profits are generated, also requiring global agreement, things won’t progress. Amazon, to give it credit, does invest constantly in developing new infrastructure thereby averting taxes on profits, but discredits that positive by being based in Luxembourg for low taxes, though it’s only serving its shareholders interests by doing so. Attack the banks, investment houses, and private shareholders, if you want to change big corporations legal tax planning. They’re the biggest beneficiaries.

Cameron slashed corporation tax for large companies and brought down the top rate of income tax from 50% to 45%. Osborne said that it showed that Britain was open for business but coupled with austerity it was an abject failure. Growth since 2010 has been miserable, wages have stagnated and inward investment has been pitiful. The only exception for inward investment was in the year after the Referendum when Sterling plummeted and UK businesses were bought up on the cheap.

When you’re talking to those who are paid far too much so they’re the ones whose income will require redistribution they’re the ones in fear of his sound thinking. We know the BBC pay ridiculous amounts to both its presenters and many staffing it maintaining its bias. The redistribution ideology threatens to expose the incompetence behind confidence which flourishes in every hierarchy, public and private. I’ll give Lynch credit for saying, on Question Time, that those at his level will need to lose out to benefit the lower paid. There is only one pot to pay from and without dropping differentials regarding pay awards the poor will get poorer as the better off get better off with every pay increase.

Even businessmen we know think CT needs to be raise, but the tax allowances linked to it as well, to encourage investment. Mick has actually done something in his life, unlike our 'political elite' - Ha, ha!! My and my wife's teaching salaries of exactly £3,999 per annum each in 1979 were almost exactly two thirds of average income (£6,000 in 1980), yet we were able to but a small house for £12,500 immediately with a deposit from my parents of £1,500. But we could have bought the house the next year ourselves by saving just less than a third of our income after tax and NI (nearly 50% of our salaries then for 12 months (i.e. over one third on accommodation, under one third on living expenses, and under one third on savings). No car. Lodgings (£70 each a month incl.electricity, water and rates). No real holidays. No alcohol. Few clothes. Simple home-made foods. We were able to have a baby two years later and my wife gave up work to look after her. We had a holiday after she was born because I did some extra private teaching in exchange for free use of a holiday cottage in Cornwall, owned by a rich parent. We had worked for three months teaching EFL, with free accommodation, after finishing the PGCE, so had some savings for emergencies. Almost unthinkable now.

When education became a right and property an investment things progressively collapsed. Both are artificial constructs forced into society by political will. Worthless consumerist education to increase occupancy rates inflating the sector growing it. Property give always under Thatcher then rampant free markets driving up prices beyond normal working people, benefitting the better off who could buy, then benefitting the better off who then invested pushing prices higher and rents upwards requiring vast housing benefit subsidies to support them. It’s been a one horse race for decades. Now Sunak wants pseudo Thatcherism to get us out of the hole it dug. I fear the explosion the bubble will cause when it busts and the decimation of what was once a reasonable society of communities before individualism became the engineered norm. Respect and traditional values don’t pay the bills but they create a society where redistribution is possible, raising the poor at the cost of those stripping out more than they merit, which is why redistribution is resisted so much. Forget these virtue signalling RU-vidrs. If they saw that they’d be paying the price required they’d soon change their tune, as would many commenting here.

I’m so impressed with Mick’s media performances in the last few months. As the son of a working class trade unionist it’s lovely to hear his position so clearly laid out. It’s like my dear old dad is up and about again talking about how socialism can actually work. Thanks Mick.

Absolutely nobody on either side of the argument has suggested the benefits of taxation. Denmark has one of the highest tax rates in the world. It also has one of the lowest crime rates, highest life expectancies, lowest infant mortalitaties, narrowest inequalities etc etc. Just another reason why Mick Lynch should be leading a progressive socialist government.

As a slight aside; I have read via different sources that Denmark has the Highest Cancer Rate in Europe and that Ireland has the Second Highest. They're respectively the Third and Fourth Highest in the World. I hope that I'm wrong.

The problem is no one is protesting anymore for anything. And that's a problem.

Mick Lynch betrayed all of us in 2016. I just want to make sure that all Mick Lynch fans know he still supports Brexit and urged his members to vote Leave in 2016. In bed with Farage and the racists

I watched and re-listened to this episode of BBC Newscast when it was on. And I occasionally watch these Novara videos. Mick Lynch is smarter and better than all the presenters featured - Bastani, Walker, Adam Fleming, Chris Mason - I don't mean that as an insult to the presenters, but as a compliment to Lynch. To succinctly communicate these ideas, so straight-forwardly and persuasively, is really incredible. He says more in a couple of snippets than Walker and Bastani will normally say in a whole video, and he can answer a tricky question with a highly intelligent and reasoned answer as if it's the easiest thing in the world.

If possible he should run as Labour Leader. I would vote for him. He's honest.

Does it work like that? Does he not need to be a MP first?
