Man those B.C Rich guitars are crazy huge looking haha. when I was 13 I got my first guitar and it was a bc rich platinum warlock because I seen Mick Thompson with a warlock and just thought it was the most metal guitar ever. the one I got was really nice. I remember everyone always wanted to play it, even my friends grandpa who owns a music store. He was really impressed with how well it was made and played which was funny because he's more of a Fender tele, Gibson les paul guy. Sad to say his junkie grandson stole it one day and pawned it off haha. I probably would have never gotten into playing guitar unless it were for Mick Thompson and his warlock.
Mick thomson and his warlock also made me want to shred even tho i only started a couple years ago i always thought mick was like heavy metal personified , so cool also, your bc rich story took an unexpected turn i thought youd say it was hard to play or something im sorry for your loss glad you had such a good time with it tho maybe ill get one someday
The Ibanez Tele was supposed to be a tribute to his very first guitar he ever bought. There’s one video where he shows the guitar that’s not the same one but it’s identical to the one he had. He talked about Ibanez was making him a version and he wasn’t sure if it would be a production model or just something for him to keep as like a tribute to his very first guitar.
Yeah he said he sold it and tried buying it back years later but the owner had trashed it, actually never saw a picture until now and always wondered about it
He used it live, though very briefly for the 2008 Mayhem Tour. Ever since I laid eyes upon it, I’ve wanted to build my own super strat custom or respray an RG550 based off of it.
The “Double Rhoads” is a VERY historic and important guitar... I believe it came After the RR model as the wings were already cut laying around... Jackson was making guitars for the Ultra famous Gold record selling “Ratt” ... guitarist Robin Crosby wanted a pointy V , the RR was too small on him as he was like nearly 7 feet tall( Nikki Sixx gave him the nick name Robin KING Crosby because of his giant presence) KingV is named after him, So Grover Jackson glued two of the large Rhoads wings together and the rest is history...
I was at the Ozzfest 99 in Camden. Nobody knew who the dudes in masks that had a percussionist playing a Keg with a sledgehammer were. Lol. They played the side stage.... And by the next month every music store had their album In the window.
I lost a Mick Thomson ovation years ago during a rough financial time. Been on the hunt for one for a while. They are hard to find and don’t stay on the market long.
Sick video! Think a good video to do would be a comparison between Mick and Jim solos. They're so different in terms of technique and sound, plus I think Mick is a criminally underrated lead player.. like wtf is going on during the pulse of the maggots solo 🤯
Yea mick basically had all the bc rich models back in the day i was lucky enough to see them in that whole pre blow up when they were the nobody's playing at 1030 in the morning at ozz fest . ... when he got with bc rich someone hooked him up because everytime I saw them which was most of the 1st album tours like tattoo the earth and once with kittie and will haven ...... dude was always sporting a different bc rich or two ..... the ozzfest before iowa in 01 I swear he changed guitars like 6 times and each one was a different bc rich
He has a custom Ibanez s with 24 frets. It actually looks slightly different than the current models because back then only the 22 fret models existed. When Ibanez officially introduced the 24 fret s models the body shape was slightly altered to accommodate the extra frets.
I actually saw a picture of Mick playing that custom B.C. Rich V in an issue of (if I remember correctly) Circus magazine back in 2001 when I was a freshman in high school.
I got a Revolver Magazine when AHIG dropped and it had all the promo photos with that guitar. It was so gorgeous! And like the polar opposite of his red or black guitars. Sad he never used it live or during that cycle
5:44 It can be seen on video from deluxe edition of AHIG. It was used for recording songs for AHIG same as MTM20. There's a video of Mick recording This Cold Black solo with it.
The guitar that got damaged on stage, was his black Warlock - I've seen a rare rig rundown from the Vol 3 era, and he showed it to the interviewer claiming ''it's a rough f*cking show'' it also had a piece chipped off the headstock.
Another guitar that he used, that is kind of obscure was an Ibanez RG560. It was kind of a light blue-gray color. He used it in 98 a lot. I think he used that until he got the green Jackson you mentioned.
I remember seeing a Mick Thompson Ovation ad in a guitar world around the time AHIG came out. It was around the time I got into Slipknot so that image is burned in my brain.
That guitar at 4:36 is actually a Jackson AT-1. They’re apparently pretty rare to find now and only made in the mid 90s. Also the green Ibanez was used live. There is a complete video of the 2008 Mayhem festival show in Washington. He used it on some stuff towards the end; most notably on the only live performance of the song All Hope is Gone. And it was in his guitar rack in a 2008 video of his guitar rig; don’t know if has ever been used live since.
I think that Bich is the reason he left BCR. They kept sending him versions that weren't to his specs and he'd just had enough, if I remember correctly. Hoping he comes back to BCR some day. It would just feel like things came full circle.
I think I've seen a clip of Mick playing that green Ibanez guitar in the studio, idk if it's the same green HSH guitar with a pickguard, but it very well could be. I think the clip was of him recording the solo of AHIG's This Cold Black
That custom Ibanez Tele guitar was actually based off the first guitar Mick ever owned when he was a kid. It was a cheap Hohner guitar shaped like a Tele that was made of plywood with a veneer on it. He said in a video that he basically started drinking one night, went online and found a Hohner guitar that was exactly like his old fake Tele, and for nostalgia purposes he ordered it online and woke up the next morning and thought “oh crap what did I do last night”. So he had Ibanez make him a new custom guitar based off his old fake Tele. And I’m not sure about this but I think that custom guitar inspired Ibanez’s FR-series guitar. I actually played a used 7-string FR in a music store once. As weird as it looks it’s actually pretty rad.
I had one of those B.C.Rich V's with nothing on its black & beautiful fretboard! It got stolen a few years ago, & I miss it dearly. One of my fav's! Had to have a custom case made for it, so if I ever see it again - LOOKOUT!! Nuff said! Stay Metal Ray!🤘🤘
Dude! UK fan here. I enjoyed that, really interesting. You should do these regular, and deep cuts. Be THE youtube authority on rock players strange guitars. Judas priest & Sabbath thru Metallica - Anthrax thru Archenemy / enslaved - you see where I'm going. Honestly though you could do a great run of videos on 'wierdest guitars'. "Peculiar machines of metal" - "Strangest Metal Machines" or a derivation of these two - gives you he flexibility tom jump into odd pedals, rack and backline gear. You know what, I'd even help you with research materials for that. Got a heart-disease that keeps me at home at the moment, so have time on my hands, am not even physically able to play guitar sometimes. But I ain't going nowhere; Got my LP to record, and got my lil' home studio together. Your videos helped me make some of the choices, so, you know... Anyways, great vid! I think the short version is; More please!!! hahaha bless you and yours buddy
That's awesome, I didn't know about a few of these. I have a 2001 M7 signature NJ Warlock with the HATE inlays across the frets. My parents bought it for me in high school, actually bought it from a guitar store here in Des Moines that Mick used to give lessons, still have the price tag on the control cover. It was my second guitar, wild to think that was over 20 years ago...
Fellow Philly and HUGE Slipknot Mick Thomson/Jim Root fan! Hardcore fan since 2000. Jealous you got to hang with Jim Root! Keep fighting the good fight brother!
That BC Rich Bich as far as I know had never made it to production. He left for Ibanez shortly before they could make it. I want one. I’ve got the warlock.
Mick also had a guitar similar to the green Ibanez with HSH config. It was a natural mahogany one and he used it towards the end of his run with Ibanez during .5. Kinda a weird one as well
That Bc rich Warbeast and V were my favorites those things looked badass. I had a Nj neck through mockingbird with the cloud inlays I got rid of it I highly regret it.
Back in the day I always thought having a hard tail with a locking nut was stupid. Now I understand why he likes that combo. When you're at that level, if you need to change tunings you just use another guitar. Not so easy when you're a kid playing a squire strat though haha.
I love every one of Micks “Metal style” guitars, it’s honestly difficult to play those guitars, they are by all means not comfortable to play which is why I believe he made a full transition towards getting a signature model from Jackson done, those somehow have that “Metal” look but in a very modern way and I’m sure it’s very comfortable to play as well.
I had a friend with a warbeast. He broke the big fin doing a stage dive during a performance - in the courtyard of our high school. This was... 2005? LMAO
The Jackson V was a custom he made when he was younger and never used it on the road because of the neck on rhoads guitars , and was way too valuable for him to take on tours till he got on Jackson and started using it more often but still hardly
From the point of some guitarist that have played 6 string guitars for so long. They are used to how the layout and feel of the guitar is. I did see a video of Mick at NAAM while he was with Ibanez and they had his signature guitar in a Seven string. He did play it. He was asked if he was going to tour with one, he said I will think about it
Mick is a big bc rich usa neckthru guitar collectir. He has lots of brian hoffman from diecides old bc riches, i found out the hard way, i got into a bidfing war with Mick on ebay around 2001 over Brian's irinbird, when bidding got crazy Mick messaged me and told me who he was and told me to stop wasting my time that he was buying the guitar, i didn't believe it at first but after a few messages realized it was really him and the ironbird was removed from auction and Mick bought it outright.
That's a beast not a warbeast . The warbeast doesn't have the bottom points instead a warbeast has the bottom point of the warlock. This takes the beast head stock and top body point and puts it on the warlock bottom. But that was just a beast mick had
