I loved the episodes of "The New Adventures of Spin and Marty" with Annette and Darlene! I wish they were available! Thank you for uploading this rare gem! :)
Margaret Tudor I know your comment is very old but I just found this video but there is a awesome app called Disney plus and they have the first season of spin and Marty as well as season 1 of Mickey Mouse club and old Disney movies and newer ones it’s awesome
Oh, I'm so sad for the ravages M.S. inflicted on dear, sweet Annette. May her gentle soul rest in peace. And I'll wager a bet: I'll bet Mr. Disney. Jimmie Dodd and Annette are dancing with joy up there in Heaven - with neither pain, debility or sorrow in the surroundings. These reruns of "Mickey Mouse Club" harken back to a more innocent time - a time without "Jersey Shores", "Lindsay Lohan" or "Charlie Sheen." And, yes, I was named after her.
The 2 men with cowboy hats ...I believe the one on the left may have been the one who married her during the m s. Time of her life. He had a crush on her for years watching and working on the set with her for years he really stepped up and was there for our darling Annette till the end 💞God Bless him..and our sweet Annette💝💘💗💖💓❤️💞🙏
As a little girl when this aired on TV, I wanted terribly to be just like Annette Funicello and be a ballerina, but never got any ballet lessons, the first shattered dream. The snow man hardly registered.
Patricia, It took my kid sister 1 whole year to learn Irish Dance, she got to dance in some ST Patrick Day Parade. They said snowman passed out to discourage smoking
SuperJackster01 I know this comment is two years old but there is a app called Disney plus kinda like Netflix and except everything Disney they have the first season of Mickey Mouse club as well as the first season of spin and Marty
Personally, I think there was resentment on Darlene's part towards ANNETTE, because I think DISNEY STUDIOS originally were going to launch Darlene as a solo artist, but ANNETTE received the most Fan letters, so the powers that be concentrated more on her. So, I think it would be natural for a bit of rilvary to occur between Darlene & ANNETTE.
Darlene was the more talented by far. Annette really could not sing very well at all. Darlene sang in a few animated Disney films and she was the best of all the mouseketeers as an all around talent. She was can excellent dancer. I think Mr. Disney was partial to Annette.
Kathy That's why 2nd hand smoke is dangerous just 1 cigarette can fill a room. I was in a motel room smoked 1 & for 10 minutes watch smoke go out the door. Maybe first time smoker I remember getting dizzy with my first smoke
Annette was a naturel and a fine ballet dancer. Darlene? A try-hard showbiz failure who didn't make the grade. The stupid dyed blonde look didn't help Gillespie.
I think this was in 1957 ...the mmc debuted Oct 1955 when Annette was 13 going on 14 the same month,,,so I think she may have been 16 here...Darlene was closer to 17..you can tell that Darlene looks a lot older here than when she was on mmc on 1955 ,when she did corky and white shadow episodes..😊
@@asheisadora I think it's very telling that every other girl performing on that stage is covered in clothing from head to toe, heavy Woolen socks, skating boots, thick coats, hats at cetera. For some reason (maybe we should ask "Uncle Want", the character portrayed by Funicello is dressed in a dancing outfit that barely covers her crotch, and her movements clearly show her thrusting herself up and down and up and down and up and down as she leans against the Snowman. And yes she's the one with the two Cowboys are leering at. I don't know if Funicello was techically of adult age when she performed this, in which case she could determine for herself what level of exposure she was willing to portray, but as a parent I would not want my daughter to be behaving and putting herself on such lacivious display.
@@bronxbearbud272 I intensely dislike children dancing lasciviously. That wasn't THIS. There was no gyration, seductive clothing (no this wasn't), makeup, flirtatiousness, anything that would remotely suggest exploitation. Her legs were showing because it was a ballet type dance.. she was wearing ballet slippers. Way more covered than ballerinas are, even children who dance ballet. This witch hunt mentality has gotten WAY out of control. The perceptions you mentioned about her dance and what you made of people who merely smiled are truly twisted and scary. You read something into this that simply isn't there. Like I said, the world has gone crazy.
Wonderful routine and anything with Annette dancing is great. Thank you for posting it. It brings back the few goods memories I have of that time of my life.
In this episode of Spin and Marty, Ambitious (the snowman) was smoking a pipe. Disney didn't want to encourage smoking among children, so Ambitious became sick afterwards, much in the same way Shirley Temple became sick after smoking a peace pipe in "Susannah of the Mounties." Incidentally, wasn't it Darlene who encouraged Ambitious to smoke in the first place for the play's "authenticity"?
What a pity that Walt Disney never allowed any black kids to be Mouseketeers, so that they too could feel "as welcome as can be". What a good and deep and profound change that might have had on the world, how mournful that such an opportunity was lost.
Walt Disney actually didnt put the cast together, he actually put it up to many other people who were talent scouts. The only one he personally picked was Annette Funicello who is dancing with the snowman.
I grew up with the original MMC. Seeing these episodes on YT brings back so many long thought lost memories. My very first crush was on Karen. So sad she just passed on, as has so many other 'Mouseketeers'. What a simpler life we lived so many years ago.
Annette's specialty was ballet. Whenever possible, she demonstrated her abilities in special "CLUB" production numbers, personal appearances with the other Mouseketeers, and this production number from the final "Spin & Marty" serial in 1957.
