The Monkees were maligned as a manufactured made-for-TV 1960's group, yet when it came to talent each had serious credibility, none more so than Mikes Nesmith and Dolenz. The world first fell in love with Micky Dolenz from the opening lines of Neil Diamond's brilliant I'm A Believer, the follow-up single to Last Train To Clarksville, and then Pleasant Valley Sunday, etc. Compared to talent-free boy bands of the past 30 years, without exception Dolenz and cohorts were light yearsahead in terms of musical and acting talent, thus cementing the Monkees as one of the all-time greats of American pop music.

Very nice! I enjoy seeing 70s interviews featuring The Monkees. It's great that Micky is still going strong even 50 years after this interview.

At this time, Mickey was part of a group that hang out at a Hollywood club, I believe the Trubadour that included himself, John Lennon, Alice Cooper, and Harry Neilsen.

I was a huge fan of Mickey growing up in the 80s watching "the Monkees" reruns. I loved his voice and the harmonies of the songs. I understand the lack of street cred. But, they had great writers, wrote some of their own, had great session players recording and really have chemistry- vocally imo, and charisma. A good product is a good product.

THIS is what someone in "the biz" sounds like WITHOUT EGO. Clear, coherent, compassionate, empathetic. LOVE! ✌💜👊 Mickey...Thank You for not ever being a douche. Would love to see the wood-work you love and give you a sheckle or two for it.

He was rehearsing the answers he'd be giving to the same questions he'd be asked over & over & over again for 50+ years. Otherwise decent interview.

Micky is showbiz-literally, if you'd like to hear Micky in an interview w less of his usual stock answers check him out on Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast, he did two of them.

Great interview with Micky that I had never seen or heard before! I was lucky enough to have met he, Davy Jones and Peter Tork several years at an autograph signing and also saw them in concert back in 1986 for their 20th Anniversary Tour in Pittsburgh.

You should have fact-checked your description of this video. Peter Tork was the most musically accomplished member of the group, and Last Train To Clarksville came before I'm A Believer.
@slydogmania
@slydogmania Год назад
While fully aware of that fact re Tork (and Dolenz acknowledged this), my opinion is that talent-wise Nesmith and Dolenz were indisputably creative geniuses and for what it's worth, Davy Jones like Tork were amazing talents and central to the success of the Monkees. You're right though about Last Train released before Believer
