I've been trying to figure out how to make a small teardrop for two that could be towed by a smaller car, so glad I found this channel. That poor man's fiberglass is genius and I am now a subscriber. Thank you for your hard work

@@thelwood Great videos. Do you think if it's possible to PMF over Foil Faced Polyiso boards? thank you
@thelwood
@thelwood 2 года назад
@@metric7278 I am not sure, I have never worked with it to know if the foil could separate. I would do a small test sample before using it! Best wishes!
@TheRebelmanone
@TheRebelmanone 2 года назад
@@metric7278 Good question. But based on what i have seen with those foil faced foam when it gets a little exposure it peels off. But of course if you PMF a drop cloth without sealing it with paint it would most likely behave the same as the foil and peel off. If the wood glue and drop cloth sticks to the foil and the foil sticks to the foam, and then you seal it with paint it should be good. Like Lucy said, would have to try it to see. Use a small piece for a mock up test.

Your tiny travel cabin is aesthetically beautiful, unique and practical, and it perfectly recreates the style of the classic tear drop trailers. When I build trailers at your size they usually come out somewhere around 90 pounds. My lightest is 61, but it's built to the minimum size possible. Yours looks much easier to live with. Lovely little trailer. I have however often wondered why everyone builds them with the bluff end forward? Would it not be more aerodynamic to have the narrower end heading into the wind? Or why not use a "wedge of cheese" design? That would do away with awkward curves. Just thinking out loud. As I said that is a lovely little trailer, you must let us know how it performes in use??

Thank you! The shape was made to replicate a 1950s cabin car, so it was selected for a certain look more than for aerodynamics. It also works well to have greater head room in the cabin and lower access point for the galley. :)

Awesome build! I'm wondering about the rigidity of the 1" foam with PMF especially after the kerfing. I have a project in mind and I think this technique may work.

I know I responded on the other video, but I figured I would respond here too in case any one else is curious too 😃 The sides without the kerfing are very strong. For the roof it definitely needed the wooden dowels as spars to help strengthen it. If it were going to have to withstand snow on the roof, I would also put 1/8 baltic birch over the top. Here in Arizona that isn't an issue. The sides were cnc cut before I had input on the design of them, the area by the door was very thin... only an inch of foam above the door! So there wasn't room for wooden dowels there. To strengthen that part I actually put 1/2" x 1/16" aluminum bar right into the kerfs on each side of vent using exopy. That added a lot of strength!

@@thelwood Thank you for answering twice! Has someone asked about the total time it took to complete this build? I'm trying to get a rough (realistic) estimate on my project. It normally takes twice as long as the time I've allotted!🤣

@@dantejones4551 we worked on this for 2 months, weekends and some evenings. My full pull behind my car teardrop took about 6 months total. I know all about things taking twice as long as I expect!

See the world....on a Vespa! Wondering how stable that rig is seeing 2 wheel vehicles were never designed to pull rigs like that.

Thanks for watching! It pulls really easily, the biggest issue is wind. Big gusts definitely make it a more challenging ride. But on a day without wind it is an easy 170lbs to pull.

I used structural roofing foam to build a shanty and it was awesome..this was 20 years ago tho so I don't know if it is even available anymore .
