Nice backyard, Dance Partner. I think you can do more with a smaller space because you have to decide what's important and figure out how to fit everything. At the in-laws place I had a small walkway and a little alley behind the kitchen. I had 4 muscovies, three hutches with rabbits, a fish pond and I grew herbs, spinach, peppers, okra and ornamentals. There was even an almond tree in the corner. And then we built here on my parents' place and I have an in ground garden and I am constantly wondering how to set everything up. I started with fruit trees. I think some trees and bushes do well in large containers too.

Yes, scythe! Edible acres just did a vlog about his scythe- including brand name I think.

I love my scythe for spot mowing or making hay out of patches of grass that aren't easy to get fenced access for. Handy for trimming around posts and trees, too. Worth having one on hand, but don't skip the giant whetstone. Also: I'd make a couple of skis to put under DP's tractor. That looks like the small coop we use to finish new birds before they join the larger flock... with wheels on one side.

Congrats Dance Partner! The feathered adventure begins! I totally agree with needing to change up to the hardware cloth and sealing edges to avoid rot. I added a pressure treated base because of the ways I've seen the bottom rails rot out. It also lessens the flex of the coop framing. In addition to the base I added wheelbarrow type handles, with bolts to pivot on to keep them out of the way when not moving, and a wheel system that you lift the coop and swing them underneath when moving and swung back out from underneath. This allows me to move them every so often and spread the benefit of the "holy chicken squat" as Justin says. All the best in the days ahead! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

We grew a garden and had chickens (even though they weren't HOA approved.) Now we're here in Notth Idaho on 20 acres! 13 goats, 2 dozen chickens, ducks and a goose...so far! 😄 Chickens are THE gateway animal to homesteading!

This chicken coop is great to keep in a barn for sick chickens or introducing pullets into your main flock. I also use mine as a timeout area for Roosters.

Nice garden. I have the Green Stalk & I love it so much I now have three. Cattle panels make great arches. We don’t have a truck so it was a bit scary getting them home. I’m looking forward to your progress. I have a tiny suburban homestead with chickens, rabbits (for fiber), quail & gardens stuck in here & there. Grow where you are, it certainly can be done

Yay dance partner - great opportunity for junior to be involved as closely as possible right in her own back yard on a scale she can manage without it becoming "a chore" chuckle.

And you are improving the soil for furture people living there with the animals on the ground 💞

Move the chicken tractor ONLY with the chickens in the hen house, not on the ground, then it doesn't matter how high you have to lift it and you can't run them over if they don't keep up with your speed when in motion.

I think a scythe is definitely a good idea, but don't expect perfect results straight away. I've been trying to teach myself how to mow hay with a scythe this year, it's a lot of fun, but also harder than people like Jim Kovalesky make it look ;)

Good for you! I think you can do a lot with your raised beds. You would probably do well with one of those green stalks.

Such a cute little Coupe and I agree with you DP, that it does need to be sealed up a bit better to avoid rot and yes you need handles. The garden looks great and from all reclaimed Lumber that is fantastic. Meat rabbits are a fantastic idea. So easy to get a tremendous amount of meat all year long. We've been raising rabbits on the property longer than I've been alive 😀 Now Dan why do you want to Scythe that's just more physical labor. Mow away.

you tube used to be a great place to watch movies and so that is before the influx of people making movies about buying small farms and starting off grid only they are not off grid they are in villages and local towns which they dont film
