Micro Hydrostar - E20 class miniature freeflight floatplane!

It's at Hodges Field, lots of rc flying going on. I need to get another sport wing. So much fun, especially at night!

It helps to have a really forgiving platform. The Hydrostar is really gentle in its characteristics

His channel and aircraft work are unlike any other! Such a joy. The website. The hobby. The. Customer service. The knowledge. The fu. The man is amazing really. Devoted to free flight goodness! Just a wonderful type of airplane hobby!

So the problem with tip floats is that when they touch the water, they add a ton of drag at the tip which causes the plane to snap around. Water takeoffs are a challenge and ideas that would seem to make perfect sense cause awful handling. I'm only beginning to understand what's needed and I've been flying off the water for many years.

Fully immersed. Long periods in a couple cases. Only ill effect is the band burner won't cut the band when wet.

@@joshuawfinn wow, for a RC sailboat I coated receiver with some black stuff. Selman timer sensitive to moisture.

@@billkuhl442 the Selman units are a little more picky, especially with that linear servo. Melih is coming at this, building on the work of guys like Selman and others, and adding in his own expertise with high altitude balloon payloads, so he's able to provide that next level of improvement. I should add that anything with an actual servo is going to need special attention since water ingestion there is a major problem.

@@joshuawfinn yes his stuff is cutting edge. Hey I had a flight of almost 1 1/2 minutes on my Pinna Flyer II.

The boards on these are pretty well sealed and the motors don't care about water intrusion. Lipos can usually be submerged without ill effects.

You are correct. I'm not always good at getting the right words out, and even worse at remembering to edit them out.

@@joshuawfinn I’ve always been into model planes, built free flight, then RC planes, helicopters and drones, but always went back to gliders, almost two years ago I started flying paraglider’s and it’s literally the most addicting thing I’ve ever done. Get a whole new respect for thermals when your climbing at 6 meters per second (~1,200 feet per minute) then when you thermal with 25-30 other pilots it’s just unreal. Can take off at 4,400’ msl and in less than 5 minutes be at 7,000’ thinking how the hell did my balsa wood creations survive this turbulence 🤣🤣
