My parents told me that as a child I used to eat soil regularly. They were concerned and asked the doctor what to do about it. The doctor said not to worry, this was common. It now seems it may have been beneficial. Apparently I stopped eating soil when we visited some friends with a farm in Denmark. I found the soil in the farmyard less agreeable it seems!

This man has an important message for all with autoimmunity: feed your gut microbiome to control inflammation.

This vid is kind of 4 years old so I have doubts that I can get an answer to a question I've wondered about or some time. The Question: As a kid (I'm 73 now) my parents and other parents treated us without 'kid gloves' . We got dirty, we got blooded in games, fell over and got up again. Our parents never mollycoddled us and we never really expected anything else. So OK maybe I'm an old bloke saying we were better for not being pampered but these recent notions of the microbiome really ring a bell with me.

The bugs can adjust (mostly) within a month. So we can make up for childhood stuff to some extent fairly quickly.

@ Lew Hunt, You didn't ACTUALLY ask a question!!!! But in reply I would say (as a retired nurse with 40 years in A/E) that we were healthier because we picked up immunity by wallowing in the muck. Nowadays, with mass disinfectants, we weaken our immune response and become MORE AT RISK of infection and conditions like asthma!

Doesn’t our present situation clearly show this up. All the isolation that has been enforced over the last months has gone a long way to reduce our immunity. We’re now picking up all sorts of bugs, and don’t have the resistance that we did, but I’m sure that our guts will soon adjust.

Absolutely, iam a young mother and we both never ever tried to stop our son from being messy and just be a kid. We hardly picked him up unless he's upset or needed a hug. Most of the time since he was baby he would be on the floor, exposed to sun and all sorts of weather with bit of caution. He loves outdoors, nature and just be in the open air which has herlped him toj be calm, I tuned with himself at such a young age, he's just 2 years and 8 months and people always comment as to how much he's calm collected and social able considering current situation. I always advice others too plllease stop pampering your kids and keeping them like a baby Al the time. Let them be children, take them out and let them be messy and enjoy the fresh air. Don't make thrm or yourself sdit infront of screens and being so engrossed in your own lives that you will miss thoise precious experiences with your kids.

What is the effect of all the handwashing chemicals we use several times a day now because of coronavirus regulations on our gut health and immune system?
@PamelaD963
@PamelaD963 3 года назад
They destroy all the good bacteria and since the “virus”is not transmitted by bacteria , then the only thing the toxic chemicals do is destroy our microbiomes and therefore our immune system. The exact opposite of what the government tells us , just like the masks.- no science only compliance.

We should not use these powerful antibacterials at home, because they strip beneficial bacteria from our skin, & also help to breed resistant “superbugs” - like the scourge of MRSA (methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus) has developed in hospitals from overuse of methicillin. Soap & water is enough.

I have a beautiful cat and no dog but was bought up in countryside as a child and went horse riding and sat around in fields with cows etc and played in farmers fields I was very healthy as a child and didn’t have asthma until I about 14 after 5 years of living in outer London

My brother has a dog that he walks several times a day, I have 2 indoor cats, and yet he has asthma and is allergic to lots of things (even dogs except for a few breeds), while I have no known allergies and no asthma. We both had a similar upbringing in terms of exposure to nature, but I seem to have got all the healthy genes. I think my eating and exercise habits are healthier than his (though that wasn't always the case), and he used to smoke tobacco for much of his adult life which I only did briefly when I was 18.

Right i see the correlation here..good personalities with good values are lost soo maybe..by reintroducing the microbes we getting back good people?So real question here is : can microbes affect our personalities?Directly/ indirectly?;)

Couldn’t the disease itself cause lack of variety of microbes not the other way round? I find if I eat a healthy diet full of salad that my skin is much happier and less prone to dermatitis. If I loose weight via exercise and healthier lower calorie high fibre low sugar type diet I find my asthma less apparent although I still get hayfever even if I am eating well

Probably they searched the problem in laboratory. So ,they found out ,who has dogs can improve the microbiom ,who has cats eill not improve the microbiom . It's all about science ,trials , tests ,etc

My best guess is domestic dogs go outside more than most domestic cats, and dogs are more social.

Free the MBR beagles. It's all very well telling people to stroke dog's, but what about the dogs and cats used in cruel experiments.
