In this short video I discuss a recent study that appeared in the mainstream trade media this week on the benefits of macrodosing of psychedelics for adults with ADHD. The article was reporting the results of a journal article recently published and shown below. It is by a group of scientists in The Netherlands who published other results from this same project a year ago. That paper is also shown below.
This is a rather poorly done scientific study that did not involve any control procedures for possible confounding variables. It simply surveys people claiming to have a diagnosis of ADHD or high symptoms who intended to use macrodosing of psychedelics over the next month. it had them complete online surveys of ADHD, well-being, personality traits, and mindfulness at baseline, two weeks later and 4 weeks later. 80% of the sample had left the survey by week 4. No placebo condition was used, nor was the use of psychedelics monitored in anyway other than asking if the people had taken their doses each day. Because of the numerous flaws in such a study, one cannot conclude that micro-dosing of psychedelics helps manage ADHD or improve mindfulness and well-being, as the authors reported. Clearly more and better research needs to be done before making any claims about the benefits of psychedelics for adult ADHD.
