AKG C451 is beautiful. But the SM57 is great as well!

The mic placement has a big influence on the sound, so only the last comparison was relatively fair.

57 is still the best. And also great for guitar cab. And it can double as a hammer too.

I have to say the V7X keeps nailing it, for me. And the off axis rejection is very good. Great mic for the price. I think i'll grab a few.

something ain't right about that 441... they're not that dark unless damaged or unless the brilliance switch is in the wrong position. And you omitted the beyerdynamic 201... which rules.

I'd be wanting to buy an Beyer M201, but after buying the sE V7X I have settled. Beefy and open, and with a very pleasant (and moderate) hi-hat spill.

Glad to hear this. I love 201s ... used to have two plus a revox 3500 (similar). Sold all long ago when I closed my studio. Now, I think I'll be buying V7X. According to another RU-vidr the v7x frequency response is similar to the m88 frequency response, also a great mic (though I usually use that on floor, it also works fine on snare). The V7X seems like an unbeatable value for snare/toms!

Well, I guess I now know why the SM57 is the go to for snare lol. Only one I liked as much was the AKG 451

Thanks. Each of those should be manageable. I believe the position of the mic is far more important, do you have a video comparing this as well?

my 1st choice for snare is SHURE BETA 56a

I'd go with the BF541, it was the least exciting but was the one that had the best isolation from the hihat. A little eq and it's a winner in the mix.
