Micropipettes are devices that are used to deliver small volumes of liquid; usually in the range of 0.5 to 1,000 microliters. Like other forms of laboratory instrumentation, the micropipette must be operated with precision so that your measurements can be reproduced consistently.
It's not hard; so don't be intimidated by it. But it does take practice. Your technique is very important. And since a micropipette delivers such small volumes, a minor operational flaw could make a huge negative impact on the accuracy of your measurements.
In this video, we'll demonstrate the correct technique for using a micropipette. We'll also examine some common micropipetting mistakes.
Be sure to check out BioNetwork's award-winning "Pipetting" eLearning module. It's freely available at www.ncbionetwo....
This video was filmed on location at Gaston College.

This was very helpful, thank you so much for making such a useful video publicly available! Are there any more-advanced techniques or tips that could supplement what is covered in the video? Also, I really liked the production value of the video. It felt good to watch.

The issue I have, is that when pipetting using the correct technique in the video the demonstrator still has liquid in his pipette when he discards the tip. Surely if you're pipetting you should have expelled all the liquid by going to the second stop? And I've had PhD students say to me when pipetting, don't produce bubbles in the micro-plate (or w/e) but by going to the second stop you've expelled all liquid so air ensures nothing's left. How do I follow their instructions without pipetting wrong? :/

Ollie Stringer I agree with you I always left liquid🤐🤐😯😯😯

Ollie Stringer he presses until the second stop and doesn’t leave any liquid in tip You absolutely have to dispense at the second stop otherwise it’s inaccurate. To avoid air bubbles you can dispense slowly

Because there may still be liquid in the tip or on outside of tip and they could be different samples of same liquid
