I love my microscope -- being visually impaired, it is the only way that I can work on electronics with my low vision. Before I got it I was "okay" at through hole soldering, and I never bothered trying SMD (surface mount) work because the parts were too small for me to be able to see them well enough. With the microscope I am able to successfully solder even small SMD components, and surprisingly it has improved my through hole soldering too. One thing I did with mine was I ditched the crappy stand that it came with and made my own. I got a clamp on swing arm (basically like one of those articulated arm desk lamps but with a tripod screw thread on the business end instead of a light) and 3D printed a mount that lets me attach the microscope to it. This lets me position the microscope any which way I want, and it lets me work on even large size boards (that would normally not fit under the stand that the microscope originally came with.) If I need additional lighting, I have some small LED lamps (both clip on and magnetic mount) that I can attach to various parts of my desk to add extra illumination. And when I'm not using the microscope, I can just swing it out of the way. The remote control is useful for triggering photo and/or video recording without touching the microscope (which could ruin the focus, etc.) I don't have a tech/retro/repair channel (yet) but I hope to someday, so this is a handy feature to have.
Thanks so much... a lot of great ideas here. Really appreciate your detailed comments and suggestions. Like you I'm thinking the microscope is really going to help my soldering. Sadly I don't have room for a 3D printer but hope I will before too long and can look again at this. Thanks so much for your comment and great suggestions!
Thanks KP. I appreciate the feedback. I'm also grateful for the view. The video hasn't done nearly as well as I hoped but I don't want to put people off the content because it feels like a advert. People like techmoan seam to get views nomatter what... I'll keep trying! Nice to get s free microscope
Thanks awall, I think joyalens do some without HDMI that are cheaper too. Thanks so much for your comments and continued views and sub. Really very grateful
@@RetroTechRepair I will have to check the joyalens microscopes out. I do enjoy your channel as it does bring back a lot of nostalgia for me with the electronics you are repairing.
Thanks Brian, I appreciate that. I thought the microscope deserved a video of its own but viewings are down so I kind of wish I'd featured it on the Inavder 1000 video instead. Tricky balance as I don't want to put my viewers off, so this feedback is very useful. Thanks. Hope you are well
Hi Ghost, not given up AT ALL, truth be known... my mum has been quite ill through the year and has recently passed away. It's been tough, plus as executor I have a lot to do. But I'm back for now and really enjoying producing content. Thanks so much for your support. Happy you are happy I'm back.
Thanks Ghost... odd thing really she was 91 so it's not a shock. I feel my loyal followers deserve to know in return for their patience, but at the same time it's massively odd to tell the whole world! Thanks for your compassion
"for when you want to look at things close up, from far away" 😂 I guess you could be casting the image to a 65" OLED... although that begs the question how do you move the item about remotely!
Glad you noticed my "funny". I agree that there could be use such as when showing the image on a project or similar. It also does allow access to additional functions I think, but I just couldn't help myself. Thank you so much for your comment.
