Kalle, suggestion for the Swiss space agency…. One night, have some beers in a small group and willingly, tension various parts, including hairsprings, minuscule screws and other parts (over a hard flooring) let them fly multiple times while the team watches to locate the parts; then average the pattern and diameter in metric to establish guideline for search parameters…. This could be Nobel prize territory; then after all is done, buy a magnet on a stick to sweep the floor. Cheers, Will from wine country in California!

That work desk/bench looks very practical. Especially the elbow pads and multiple drawers. This part 2 on how to "setup" you scope is very helpful.

I learned something awhile ago that made my life so much easier using my microscope. I had issues that focus was correct at one zoom level but not when changing zoom level, then I had to re focus again. I learned that first set max zoom, focus with the big knob then zoom out to Max and use the eye lenses to set focus again. That makes it perfect focus for all zoom levels.

This is going to be super interesting. Most of all I'd like to know if the scope can be tilted so that you can look more or less straightforward, saving your back. My current scope is stationary and just used for inspection and oiling, giving me back pain as I need to bend my neck.

Thank you Kalle. I have an old B&L Stereo zoom microscope on a boom. Just ordered an 0.5 Barlow lens for it. Still learning and really appreciate you sharing what works and what doesn’t with us. All the best to you, your family and your crew at Chronoglide!

Vast bedankt

Thank you Kelle, im now looking for a microscope, i didnt understand the microscope jargon but watching you explain, im now understanding what i require,....with one change, that would be trinocular, simulfocus, which is a bit of a change from yours cos i will be able to look through both eyes while the camera is running. Thanks very much. Mike.

Excellent explanation on setting up for the microscope. Thanks, Kalle. I'm older than you, and my back and neck just can't take the posture called for in traditional watchmaking. Right now I'm somewhat invested in an old boom-style B&L microscope that lacks some of the Amscope features, but the optics are pretty good, and the rotation on the boom is very smooth. I have 10x, 15x, and 20x eyepieces, as well as plano, 2X Barlow, and .5X Barlow lenses. Now all I really need is a ring light that will work with the size of my lenses. If anyone has a tip for a particular brand of ring light for a B&K, or perhaps Leica, Stereozoom microscope, I'm all eyes. Thanks again, Kalle. Cheers.

Completely agree with everything you said on the microscope. As a hobbiest I bit the price bullet and bought the trinocular one and it was a complete game changer! I think I would have given up if I hadn't. One point on the trinocular which doesn't bother me but may you - on the one I have at least, you have to slightly refocus the camera as well when you focus your view, so two hand operation. This may be because my camera is not state of the art but worth checking before you commit. 😀

Wish I’d seen this before I bought my “trinocular” scope ,the camera is the same as yours.an episcopic lens is also useful for more working area under scope,

I have the dual beam version and the support mehanism is sitting on a mass base instead of clamping on the bench top. However, what I don't like is that the microscope camera is interfering with my ARBE light.😂

It appears that your angle of view of a watch is straight down. Have you tried an angle of maybe 15 degrees from vertical so when using a screwdriver or other tool it is not blocking your view?

Kalle, do you have the model number of the SZM model you all use? I was looking for that specific one, but I could not find one that matched exactly

Hi, question. I have a similar microscope as you work on. 7x-45x. I use a Barlow lense of 0.5x. I have a camera attached in the third slot but loose left eye piece when that is active. But my camera is much more zoomed in than my eye pieces. I think there also is a 0,5x lense attached between camera and the third slot. What do I need to do to get same zoom level in eye pieces as in camera?
