To nitpick, cos that's just what we do, step 1: explicitly require a robust strategy (e.g., the 3-2-1 rule) ideally in place and known working *before* mass data loss and scarring for life for the sysop who thought 'it can wait'. Might as well throw in on top of AV: at-rest encryption of sensitive data, dedicated firewall systems, general security hardening as and when... Excuse me. Need to go review my policies.

can someone please give me a brief detailing of each step ? so i can at least know how to search and learn about it online .(i'm not a tech/cyber enthusiast so i don't understand abreviations ) -Most importantly what does "not being an idiot " mean . i know i must have downloaded apps and programs from pirate websites multiple times and can't tell if i was hacked or not . i also for sometime had chrome loading everytime i open it after turning on the pc (and it sure wasn't updates because those were already up to date) the chrome bar was loading as if you're downloading something over and over but if u check downloads nothing was downloaded.

365 is microsofts second most profitable product (after azure cloud). It's more profitable than windows, so that makes sense.

Most cyber insurance and security benchmarks require some sort of AV. There are pretty few competitors in the space (Sophos, ClamAV, CrowdStrike) and most of the existing solutions suck. So if MS can create a product with a nifty centralized dashboards... I can see a lot of small-medium enterprises picking this up as a easy to implement, easy to maintain solution from a reputable vendor.

Windows defender sucks at finding malware, the reason all metasploit and other public scripts get flagged is because someone reported them before. However if you ever wanted to make one yourself using python or any other languange you'll realise it hardly ever detects anything and even if it does you can just bypass it by changing your code a little bit. Also in most cases it doesnt matter if you obfuscate the script or not, chances are someone already tried it and it got reported or the AV can recognize it because of similar patterns.

put sometimes there is a case where web that you using like a social media that you used daily, like when twich get hacked put the good things the hackers just doing a troll to the website that time, put the point that im saying if you using a website put in the bacground the websites it self get hacked maybe and the hacker implement a trojan kind of virus, then you dont have a wall to deffend it, i only using a default antivirus for at least giving me little wall deffender even if i know is somekind of spyware put its more good than my computers contolled by russian people

It's because system D does a whole lot more than being an init system, violating the unix philosophy. It's over a million lines of code at this point. runinit is only a few thousand. It's a solid piece of software beyond that.

The issue with systemd is that it doesn’t have clean boundaries between the many components. The init system is good, but it also has a boot loader, containerization tools, network management, drive detection, and a whole lot more random crap. I would rather have something that is just an init system, and make all the other components “normal” services that can be packaged separately and replaced with other software providing the same function. It’s basically the same issue as GNOME where the developers are making everything so complex and interconnected they obtain de facto control over the stack despite everything being open source. Systemd is similar to wayland, except it was actually a full replacement for the old tech. X11 and sysVinit both have the pretty glaring problems, and a replacement was needed. X11 is extremely extensible, allowing 3rd party applications to provide stuff like window forwarding, screenshots, hotkeys, screen sharing, lock screens, desktop composition, frame buffering, Remote Desktop, input injection, and more. This created some security problems because there are basically 0 safeties, but also makes it very powerful. (E.g. I can just install xclip and be able to pipe shell commands into my clipboard.) Wayland used security as an excuse to simply remove all of those features entirely. Now, we have a dozen side bands and protocol extensions reimplementing stuff inside the display manager, and suddenly the desktop is less “fragmented” because only a few projects can afford to maintain all of those features in a monolithic program. Systemd took a different path, but had the same end goal. To accumulate a feature set so large no one but red hat can possibly maintain it.

*_Actual_* problem being, systemd spread like the plague it is, to the point of making nearly impossible to find a "major" distro not having it (Slackware was the only one back then, Devuan appeared later) plus trampling on the users' freedom of choice. Now the dust settled and having found some "lesser" known alternatives that work for me, I give a f*** about systemd cr@p and its fanboys' histerical allegations of "hatr3d" any time somebody gives systemd a hard pass. Finally I can "live and let die" xD

@@linuxtuxvolds5917 I have tried many distros and always come back to Ubuntu. It's a personal preference and what you're comfortable with. That's one of the beauty's of Linux. Mrs Martin got fed up with the blue screen of death, that she made me put Ubuntu on her pc about 7 years ago and she never goes into Windows anymore, despite having dual boot.
