I recently read where Lockheed Martin will be switching to Unreal Engine for future simulation products (P3Dv6, hopefully). It will be interesting to see what they can accomplish using Unreal. I'm currently using MSFS, and previously used P3D, but will definitely be watching Lockheed Martin's progress with Unreal.

@frankbyte
@frankbyte Год назад
Not the textures are crucial but landmarks, streets, rivers, railroads, lakes, mountains etc. All of them are available in XP. You won’t get any real advantage for practicing your flights with MSFS in the most cases. For the route i am flying in real, one of the first landmarks (antenna) is missing in MSFS. But is simulated in XP with X-World. At the end there isn’t a big difference technically speaking. But I know that many argue with that.

@paulscottrobson
@paulscottrobson Год назад
My experience of flying VFR in X-Plane (with free SimHeaven/HDMesh add ons, not default) is it is often easier. Partly because MSFS appears to think any area with a tree in it is like a forest so it can be quite difficult to track roads/railways. Both get thrown by complex or odd road links or patterns, probably they are both trying to interpret OSM data. Even at 2,000 feet most of the detail is gone ; one sees pictures of MSFS actually modelling rails on buildings (not airports) and one might wonder what the point is. You do have a point ; though one might wonder about those banging on about the graphics who spend most of their time at 30,000 feet, especially given MSFS problem with airport markings.

If MSFS take their flight model more seriously xplane 12 will be in serious trouble. However one thing I cannot get past are huge sim updates. we are not all blessed with fiber optic broadband and streaming to play is bad enough. Xplane on the other hand allows you to select scenery be it europe or south america, and I think a lot of potential is there. So Xplane in my opinion is a very solid bet and still feels like a sim. As much as I love MSFS' eye candy there are too many bells and whistles in game to immerse yourself

I suggest a more accurate description might be: "X-Plane 12 beta vs. MSFS 2020 u11 - Scenery Visuals". This video is purely about the scenery and not about any other elements of the sims. Which is fine. That's important to varying degrees by different people. It would however be nice if the video title was more clear that this is not a technical comparison of the sims beyond purely the scenery.

@C H Easy to imagine. I did. Speaking for myself, being a former programmer and also having my pilot's license helping give feedback, test on various hardware and improve the product is something that is really satisfying. Also, since it was available at a discounted price and includes a full license for X-Plane 11 as well as X-Plane 12 it would have been a waste of money to NOT buy it early since I would have bought it when officially released anyhow. There's a massive community of people for both sims that enjoy getting involved and helping the developers and other users, part of it is through looking for bugs and guiding future development. 😀👍

@@BrockGunterSmith The title of the video is literally "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 update 11 vs X-Plane 12 Scenery Comparison", how can it be more clear? I understood what the video was about, I don't need it explained to me. X Plane applies to more old school flight simmers who flocked to X Plane 9, 10 and 11 while FSX became more and more obsolete. Now that MSFS 2020 is out a lot of the X Plane community seem to be incredibly dismissive of what this new sim can do - X Plane 12 is still miles behind in terms of VFR flying, and it will only catch up if it somehow gets access to proper satellite data.

That's just not true. It's the old Xplane vs Msfs bashing. Asobo did a lot to approve realistic flight dynamics. I'm a pilot and I know what I'm talking about because I know the real thing. Both simulators have a lack of realism. That's the nature of a computer game! But Asobo did a good job! If you want realism concentrate on addon products like Fenix A320. It's not a game. I actually turned the photogrammetry off because the melted down pyramide-shape buildings popping up is for me one of the biggest immersion-killers tbh (and i have a high-end PC). Also on approaches (especially 27R/L at Heathrow) the buildings are massive for the immersion.

Im not a pilot but I have flown before a D-20 and when it comes to airplane behavior Xplane does a better job than mfs Like for example trimming the aircraft, approach and landings are more close on what it looks like in real life, overall plane model is more well simulated. Let it be clear I have only try the C172 on Xplane Mfs is the pinnacle of simulation and the fact that it has a tremendous third party market that makes the user experience more immerse is like no other out there. It finally comes down of usability. There are ppl who’s looking for training and learning and would like a better aircraft simulation rather than enjoying a beautiful and well crafted scenery.

I'd check the location of your router. If it's far away from your room, I'd install a wi-fi repeater. Wi-fi signals get worse when traveling across corners lol 2.4G and 5G also do make a difference. 2.4G waves can go further away while 5Ghz waves can give u more speed, but for lower distance. On 2.4Ghz it should not decrease the speed significantly and basically only matters if other signals interfere with the 2.4G band. Usually ur router combines the bands when it offers access to its WLAN. It then chooses whether to connect to 2.4 or 5 U should be able to configure it in the router configuration. 😅 Also, do a router software update if possible. 😅

If I had any influence on X-Plane, I'd recommend them to do as some company, whose name I can't remember now, in the US did. Since its beginning, it seemed clear to their costumers that it was comparable to bigger chains, and even if it was doing a good job, the big guys would be paying close attention. What did the owner do to avoid calling too much attention? He recognized openly that he couldn't compete and wouldn't compete with the big guys, even though he was doing pretty much the same thing. By doing that, his company kind of was left alone. The big guys didn't keep that much of a close eye, and the company could, let's say, grow in a slower pace without being bothered too much. It's been an interesting strategy. X-Plane, at this point, should do the same. They could come out and say they don't compete with FS and then follow a different path. For instance, FS focuses too much on simulating the world and not that much on the pavement, wind, and aircraft dynamics. For instance, they're still far from simulating how wings shake, the plane bouncing, the movements of the aircraft due to the imperfections of the pavement, the sinking effect due to the spoilers, etc. X-Plane could, like, have only one country, a versatile country, a country where you could find a large diversity of runways, weather, airport altitudes, vegetation, etc. By having a smaller scenery area to work on, they could focus on the airstrips, their texture and actually how their imperfections affect the aircraft, and all the aircraft and wind dynamics FS still struggle to address, since the latter focuses too much on covering the world. IMO, FS has given more priority to scenery than the dynamics of the simulation. If X-Plane addressed the dynamics, even having just one country to play in, rest assured I'd pick it, or have it along with the FS. As is, picking FS and simply forgetting about X-Plane is a no brainer.

I agree with that but this is exactly what they are doing. They don’t seem to care that much about MSFS and don’t focus on the ground-textures but on stuff that matters for flying. At the same they are being overwhelmed by demands from gamers that just want the same as in MSFS. And i really hope they won’t go that path. They improved the flight model, made a complete new weather-engine where clouds impact the flight dynamics. And there are also nee ground effects on runways etc. It has still some points to improve but in my opinion they are on the right track. If you have found a clear aerodynamical aspect not being properly simulated, i am sure that they would be interested to look into. But you have to provide them the exact issue and reference/source if you think that winds don’t impact the aircrafts like they should. I think right now the turbulence-effects in the clouds are a bit exagerated. This should be tuned down before the final-release. XP is initially a physical-tool to simulate aircraft-dynamics, created by passionate pilots and sold to professional companies and also to the hobby-users. MSFS on the other side is a mass-product advertised as game and programmed by a gaming-company. Two complete different approaches.

Having never used XP before, the closest I can put XP is into the FSX category. FSX being 2006 and over 16 years old now, I can mod it to look just about what XP12 offers or maybe even better in some cases. For XP12 to still be comparable to a 16 year product in this day and age is a little embarrassing and lack luster. Comparing XP12 to MSFS for graphical comparisons isn't even a debate. Everyone knows by now that MSFS has set the future standard for graphical representation in world environments. For die hard XP's who still contend that "one day" XP can be just as good as MSFS are living in a pipe dream. Now if we want to compare XP to FSX or MSFS stability, that could be a debate.

FSX had also some better planes (having weather-radar, proper popout-screens etc.) and more accurate weather than MSFS that doesn’t offer a complete weather-API and fails quite often to simulate the correct visibility and ceiling at airports. If you spend your time looking out the window then Microsoft's state machine game is perfect for you. If you are there to learn to fly or to stay current, X-Plane is a real simulator and can present real world scenarios for you to train in. The difference isn't the graphics, the difference is in the underlying model. Microsoft's planes fly the way they do because the programmers created rules for the behavior. X-Plane calculates the air flowing around the aircraft to give you the real world physics of flying. One is a game and the other is a simulation. Personally, I will stick with the simulator. Xplane is a project by Austin that focused on physics and aerodynamics, even naming his development team laminar research. You can see from is videos how enthusiastically he talks about how jet engines work or how air flows around the plane that all he wants to do is mess with different aircraft. Xplane12 is a physics based project and that is exactly what it was a launch, we were all spoiled by MFS's graphics that it forced Xplane into something it was never supposed to be.

I can’t see why you cannot have realistic physics along with realistic graphics. For past several years prior to MFS, Xplane had the advantage as FSX fell behind in terms of past it sell by date. One thing we can all agree upon is that having two different platforms will spur on the development teams to strive for better physics and graphics in their respective sims. In other words we do need both Xplane and MFS to compete which will ensure continual improvement in both sims.

When it comes to real (let's say "more realistic") flight simulation, XP is my first choice. Meanwhile I have uninstalled MSFS. I've not used it the last few months. Without internet you can not use MSFS. A lot of people all over the globe who are interested in flight simulation (still) have a bad or even no internet connection at all. With XP you get a full sim (even on DVDs if you need to) and you can use it wherever you want. This very small developer team at Laminar Research is even able to offer it for Windows, Mac, Linux and for mobile. I'll wait for the day when MSFS is released for Mac. :-) XP does not necessarily need an internet connection to run. Except loading real world weather the sim is full usable when you are offline. So coming back to my first comment, the comparison would just take place under same conditions (= no internet connection needed to run a full sim). Nothing else. btw: Laughable was when VR was implemented in MSFS. This large developer team around Asobo and Microsh*t was not able to implement support for VR hand controllers in the beginning! So you're wearing VR goggles on your head and you have to move a mouse over your table to be able to control the flight deck. Are they kidding the users?
