At FlightSimExpo 2023 in Houston, Jorg Neumann, Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, and Sebastian Wloch, CEO of Asobo Studio delivered a presentation to the community.
Agreed and I'm glad they made sure to elaborate now all the naysayers and jokesters can eat dirt. Trashing the sim talking nonsense and now I bet all of them will now try to retract their words. Fools the lot of them.
This is truly revolutionary to the aviation industry. As we need more real life pilots, Flight Sim 2024 is going to inspire a whole new generation of young pilots! Can’t wait to lose myself in the world of flight Sim/aviation.
We're living in a world now where when I was a kid playing MSFS 95, we could only have dreamed of what we have and clearly, what is to come! Fantastic to see Flight Simulators becoming as popular as they are thanks in no small part to MS and Asobo.

Superb! I must say that on the face of it, what the team has planned for 2024 is far beyond my expectations and looks to be both figuratively and literally a “game-changer”. There have undoubtedly been ups and downs with MSFS to date, but I can’t count how many 100’s or hours of enjoyment I have had from the sim and to see this new golden age of flight simulation unfold, has also been incredibly exciting / satisfying. Keep up the good work and a big thank you to everyone on the team, for all that you have done to advance our hobby! : )
Holy crap, this is gonna be insane. Fs20 revolutionized not just sims but tech in general, to then sit on top and still innovate further is incredible, hats off
Fantastic stuff - cleared up a lot of reservations regarding FS2024 and I'm very excited to see the different static, dynamic and living world environments come to life - Looking forward to you guys raising the bar even higher!
Couldn't agree more - I was one of the many 'oh it's just a bunch of missions they're gonna sell at full price as a new sim' people when the trailer dropped but now I'm genuinely excited for it. Seems like all of the things I love about FS2020 (including my addons...) with the things I don't love about it (super long load times, inconsistent detail levels, dodgy AI and road/ship traffic and unrealistically huge trees) fixed.
It was definitely a great day with lots to unpack!! Also fantastic to get to see you from afar getting your live coverage set up!! Looking forward for the exhibits tomorrow!!
@@jonnie2badNo mention whatsoever of ATC either, only parachutes, wild animals, search & rescue & firefighting! I think there will be plenty of the latter when the bugs appear new sim - new bugs!
@@timsmith5980 You know what, you sound like one of those perma depressed avsimmers that act like all other sims are perfect. No sim is perfect from the getgo. Xplane/P3D still carry Bugs after decades. Doesn't mean the platform is unusable. 2020 has matured a lot, and while there's work to be done and things to be added, it's stable now. 2024 will build upon that, profit from the last 3 years of insights gathered and be a lot more stable from the start. Besides, the whole msfs team encompasses 500 people now, they hired a lot of talent. Good things ahead.
@@MustafaGT Welcome to flight simulation buddy. Every new release means new things to test and roll out. Developers talk about these new and awesome features that have not been done before and they released it with the intention of refining it over time and bringing it to the next iteration. Same thing with X-Plane 12. The new cloud and volumetric systems in there are not the best or refined, but Laminar are continuously refining it even though it is new for their platform. Simulating real world and complex forces is not easy and this sim is not like a game where the devs have creative freedom to do what they want to make a game look. These guys are trying to create a realistic flight simulator close to real life which means obeying the laws of nature and creating a system close to the real-world counterparts.
@@pilot.sergio4 while true, I would appreciate if msfs would be a bit more like dcs in that regard.. same client, but multiple physics overhauls / improvements, graphical and environmental improvements including clouds etc.. Basically constantly iterating and improving up to re-writing whole parts of the engine, but always keeping the same client. Obviously we don't know if that would even be possible with msfs, but given it's also iterations of the same engine I guess in theory it's possible as well.. don't get me wrong, thx to backwards compatibility I have 0 problems spending money on the new msfs in 24, but I don't think the way they handle stuff must necessarily be the norm (take IL-2 as another example next to dcs, albeit not as strong obviously).
alright.. i was a bit bummed back when i've seen the FS24 announcement, but actually that is fantastic stuff! Thinner client, keep min specs / improve on performance, add more detailed physics, activities, a more lively world, including (all kinds of) traffic and wildlife, give more freedom to 3rd party devs.. all of that plus more while keeping backwards compatibility? call me REALLY impressed.
This is incredible news. Any doubts I had about the depth of changes coming in MSFS24 and the reasoning behind it are thrown out the window. This is truly impressive stuff, and for this much attention and resources to come to a flight sim is mind-boggling, tbh. I just get that sense of incredible joy flying in MSFS, and this truly takes that feeling to the next level. What a time to be a simmer, seriously. And what a time to be a developer for flight sims. Thank you Asobo for bringing so much excitement and joy to this hobby. Your work and passion with your products is not lost on many in the flight sim community.

I was there is the crowd and couldn't be more excited to see the improvement 2024 will be getting. These changes are just mind blowing and we should be thankful we have people like Seb and Jorg at the helm of this amazing product.
Well at least we know what they have been spending most of their time on. Creating Fs 2024 instead of fixing FS 2020.. There's a Job in Apple for these guys anytime with that kind of thinking..We'll not fix it, We'll sell U a newer model 🙂
@@robh8814 Did you watch the video? They said that they've reached the limit of what they can do with msfs2020. And if you're expecting any game to be 100% bug free, you're living in fantasy land...
@@robh8814You have to understand that the more complicated the program is the more bugs will appear, MFS using AI, cloud and other systems and its just a start, one bug is like chain will affect other things in sim, 1 bug can lead to 4 additional ones because all systems interact with each other, look at mill sims like arma 3, still plenty of bugs until now, we dont live in the past where simulation was more basic, more basic means less bugs because it has less simulation involved, its not some linear shooting game where bugs can be more easily fixed.
@@robh8814 I think buying fs 2024 won't be an obligation. And i think Xplane will still be an option. Anyone can choose his best sim. ( I'll stay on msfs . I like the efforts they make and what i already use. We might even have something better with 2024 who knows ? )
For me, RU-vid and Twitch had *extremely* low volume/distortion so bad the sound was inaudible. I found that my audio was set to Mono mode. I disabled Mono mode and the audio is fine now on YT and Twitch. Must be the way it was encoded.
I would love FS2024 but I got FS2020 and I don’t want to buy the new one for more and not use the old on, so I think FS2024 should be a discounted price if you have FS2020
Looks incredible! Hope machine learning could be used to improve colors of the landscape imagery where needed as well. Another idea: water waves should be affected by water depth and proximity to land / shielding. Calm water downwind behind an island for example. Would make a big impact in visual realism for all scenery with water 😊
Highlights for me today was Just Flight's A300B4, A2A's Comanche and of coarse MSFS 2024 with more clarification as to what is in store. Thank you Asobo for your efforts to keep innovating! Great news because FS2020 is getting really slow to load and world updates keep reducing my hard drive free space. If it can be streamed that would be fantastic! Will gladly pay for 2024.
Key statement at 10:34 that gives reassurance to current flight simmers. "...And we're all doing this by staying backwards compatible. We're keeping the same old community folder. Everything is still going to work. Addons are still going to work. It's just that we're moving more of our stuff up in the cloud..."
Really awesome stuff! I really do hope we'll see a couple more improvements though. Improved ground and gear physics. Especially for double or triple bogie gears. More contact points. Improved water physics. 3D Weather radar. Can't wait for future updates!
When you think msfs can't get any better, you drop this announcement. I hope VR is part of the msfs2024 :) I'm not a hardcore simmer, but I enjoy occasionally flying in VR over places on the map. The fact that the landscapes are now going to be even better with really improved flora and fauna is truly the best news for me. Can't wait! :) Thanks to the entire team!
My audio is bugged and I cant hear anything clearly. Is anyone else having this issue? I havent seen ANYONE mention it. I can watch any other youtube video fine.
Using headphones from work, I can't hear anything. This carried over into a clip of this video that was shared within another RU-vidr's video, and it was silent there too. There's something weird about the audio channel, maybe it's mono, I dunno. But I can't hear anything either. (And it's not completely silent - there's faint background digital garbage.)
I’m simply a flight simultor casual, but I’ve played this game more than any other game in 2023. The presentation, the level of detail, everything is just so perfect. I’m so hyped about the new game
I have to admit I am still spectical but I am *very* pleased to hear that the min specs are staying the same because I spent allot of $$$ on MSFS2020 and I really don't have much left to budget so if my laptop will still run 2024 as well as 2020 I'm *moderately happy*. Edit: Throw in a new Sidewinder Forcefeedback Yoke and I'm sold!

so we are evolving from flight simulation to AVIATION simulation after 2020 they still managed to blow most people's minds..... simming is a fantastic hobby entering a genre re-defining era. what a time to be alive.....
As a sim user, I personally do not understand the uproar about the fs2024 being a standalone that will have to be purchased. They have taken 2020 to a level that has utilized its capabilities. We need a sim that is better optimized to utilize modern technology. For this to BEST take place, the professionals made the decision to accomplish this via a new platform. So with all of the work that has taken place to make this happen, why would they not get paid for that? None of us “expect” that when a new cellphone is released that we should get the new software benefits at no cost. I will gladly pay them for the hard work and endless man-hours that has gone into this. As for 2020, it is already BETTER than what I was willing to pay for initially. Im a satisfied customer and am looking forward to seeing the next phase of this hobby
exactly, flight sim 2020 is a simulator that they said they've reached their limits with so they are making a better one 4 years later. 4 YEARS LATER!!! completely fair to sell it separately
I really like this! They are literally building on top on what they had for FS2020 which was what I talked about a while ago where it was hard for Asobo to build the FS2020 at first because of how old FSX was and how they had to redo most of that spaghetti code from back then. Now that they have a modern sim with updated code and brought in a good number of new features into FS2020, they are now building on top of it and making it even better with more detailed terrain, multi-threading support, diverse trees, and so on. Hope to see them bring in more cloud types as well as a finally full functioning 3d weather radar system. That is still one of the top requested items from the community. I said this over in the forums but unfortunately it got deleted because to no surprise they do not like it when we talk about other flight simulators and what they are doing better in and how Asobo could improve that area with constructive criticism. They always take it as do not compare X sim with Y sim. I am sure you all know which one I am talking about but X-Plane 12 and their recent announcement with volumetric cirrus clouds on the way soon. I feel is Laminar can do that, so can Asobo as well. Cloud types will be huge and add that factor of a better immersion. Oh, and defiantly an improved low visibility weather system where you can actually do 0/0 visibility takeoff and landings. This is another area where I feel X-Plane 12 does well and where MSFS can do better.
Sounds great! I only see one minor problem: This whole thing about new world azure generation depends on the quality of the satellite image. If theres only a blurry texture or no texture at all like in some areas in Northern Siberia, this whole rock and tree replacement and colour adjustments shown at 16:22 won't work. There will be again ways to change the data source to Google Maps or ArcGis but the Azure Machine learning thing will only work with the default Bing data. For 90% of the world it will work great but I am curious how they will handle these very remote but potentially beautiful areas. I hope they will buy new satellite data for these regions. It's out there, but not on Bing Maps. I would love to see the ArcGis data as the new default for Siberia, China etc in MSFS 2024.
I have spent hundreds of hours on FS2020. I have absolutely no problem to pay for an upgrade like that with FS2024 to spend hundreds more. The $ spent per hours of pleasure is extremely good value
In many simulation there is trend to be given tasks to do .In the way of the hunter there is tasks to fulfill orders from restaurant etc, instead of just hunting at will or flying into the “blue “ with aircrafts .

So happy MS realized after ditching Aces Studio maybe flight sim isn't such a bad thing after all and how Asobo has showed us what is possible and how they continue to evolve and impress. After enjoying this hobby since the first version of MSFS saw the daylight was it 40 years ago and even before that, I'm so happy and grateful being able to experience what we have today. Truly amazing!!
I actually claimed the Trimotor in a very unusual way. I was at the office when I heard about it. I fired up my VPN because XCloud isn't available in ZA yet, and launched MSFS in the browser, since it will be perfectly up to date already. I then used a Controller App on my Android Phone to allow me to control MSFS and get to the Market to claim the plane. 10 years ago I couldn't imagine doing something like that.
Obviously fs2024 stole the show and everyone on RU-vid is probably speculating on what some of those updates that Asobo is working on will be. I'm really really really happy that they are addressing the flight model and that there will be more aerodynamic surfaces in play. Also did Asobo throw a slight hint to possibly a damage model? (With their self collision comment) great presentation and please give us a fully functional g1000 cocpit (full study model). Asobo is giving us so much with this and I'm 1000 percent upgrading.
The damage model is not going to happen, they already addressed that a long time ago, they have licenses from Boeing, Airbus and other aircraft manufacturers to not include breaking of planes apart or something equal, if Microsoft would do that they would be in big trouble and license to use these planes in sim would be revoked, my opinion what we might see prob some smoke or fire at max.
I want to see DCS level helicopter physics or better. Msfs doesn't compare to DCS heli physics. At least not in terms of feel/control. I dont know exactly how DCS heli physics work, but I know they simulate vortex ring state, ground effect and how it effects the heli, etc.. The cockpit shakes as it fly's fast. DCS heli's handle realistic.
Static, Dynamic & Living Worlds ( 27:54 ) --- drool! 😆 Early renders look incredible. I don't know if FS2020 will get seasons. Even improved storms...if possible. THAT I would love. I will get FS 2024 no matter what

Really like the transparent communication of Jörg and his team. ✌️ As Xbox-flyer I can understand to make this cut now. Please, please, please let generic plane liveries be availiable also on consoles. We are waiting for it many years now.
It would be relatively simple for the AI to see where there are roads and just add some nicer 3d-game engine roads that you can actually drive on. Another major point is that grass and ground needs to look better.
and here we have simmers that find out how amazing 2024 is going to be, and as usual they "assume" it is simply "easy" to add 3d roads and then complain about other stuff (that are actually already great) it is easy to deduce these days thay the sim platform you want cannot and will not ever exist.....
As an long time simmer I'm not sure how I feel about pumping more stuff into the cloud. Thin client means less ownership and also means when support is over the sim is dead. I would like the option to keep as much data on my PC as possible. I understand this makes sense for the XBOX user because all that extra space is needed for other games. But for the PC user that is willing to have multiple hard drives dedicated to just the sim as I do with FS 2020 if feels safer for when things get shutdown. I'm not really buying the technical limitation talk about the main reason FS 2024 needed to get made.
The thin client is going to be great. I loved all of the sim updates, but always hoped they would be part of streamed data, not stuff always on my device. "Most of which you are never going to see" is a great analogy.
